Thank you for posting this video. As someone considering visiting LA in 2025 (from England). I found it encouraging and refreshing to view parts of the city that are not full of homeless tents and drug addicts. Those negative videos had all but put me off the idea of visiting. If anyone reads this comment and can offer intelligent, thoughtful and authoritative perspectives on the realities of life in LA today (and California in general, including Ojai) I would very much appreciate reading your perspective. Many thanks in advance.
@omwpov25 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! Homeless tents and addicts are largely concentrated in small pockets of skidrow in DTLA, MacArthur Park, Hollywood, Venice. LA is so large you'll hardly see it unless you go to those concentrated areas. A lot of people like to make negative videos because it gets views. And then there are others that like to make negative comments and have never been here. Definitely come for a visit. LA is large so it's like cities within a city. Beverly Hills, Silver Lake, Venice Beach is all so different and also far apart. It's a very car centric city so think ahead on travel time between locations and traffic. You can also visit Orange County and San Diego is 2.5 hours away. I've never been to Ojai.

@@omwpov Thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed reply. I really, really appreciate it. My primary destination will be Echo Park. Do you have any thoughts about that area?
@omwpov25 күн бұрын
No problem! Gosh, I remember when Echo Park was an area people didn't hang out in. It used to have a lot of gangs in the 2000s. Today, it's been completely gentrified. I think of Echo Park as Silver Lake 2.0. Silver Lake went through gentrification first. Echo Park is considered more creative, hip, and artistic. Most shops, cafes, and bars are on Sunset Blvd. Dodger Stadium and DTLA are nearby. Echo Park Lake used to have a huge homeless problem, but I don't think that's an issue anymore. I'm not in Echo Park often since it's across town for me, but I've gone to a few nice restaurants for dinner. I'll try to plan out a video.

How great to see The Dell again! My favorite home is a jewel that was on your left as you turned right to go up Odin, set back a little from the street. It’s vintage 1920’s, I’m pretty sure….one of the really early ones. That enormous home built more recently, on your right on a street whose name is escaping me at the moment, stuck out like a sore thumb. I love all of the different colors of the houses, especially the one painted an orange-sherbet color, with a scene painted across the garage doors; so iconic Los Angeles. Thank you so much for the great drive.

I'm impressed, as always, by the care you take to provide street names. I don't live in LA; I first went there in 1969. The "City View" that you show at 29:34 would have been a stinking, smoggy mess at that time. It's amazing what emission controls have accomplished.

@omwpov Жыл бұрын
The Dell is part of the original Hollywood Hills on the East and is a small part of the Hills. The Hollywood Hills has an East and a West that is split by the 101 freeway. The street that was wider had a flatter surface of the Hill near the freeway. I'm assuming that's why they were able to make the road wider. Not sure if I made sense. Hope this helps. @@omwpovThat’s interesting. It doesn’t look like it’s very flashy, but I guess it’s L.A. so everywhere there is expensive. Even so, it still is eye opening that ghetto looking homes would cost a lot. I’ll take my humble abode any time over these monstrosities. Thanks for sharing, I love watching.
