That is a river whose name I have long been familiar with but really had no idea at all where even generally geographically it was located. Thanks.

Bman KC ... do you know the Tindall Family? They use to go there....they passed away a few years ago now...our best friends. If I ever get back to my hometown...I'll have to come visit Refuge!

You were on the National Road, the first federally-funded highway, started in 1811 at Cumberland, MD and ended in 1837 at Vandalia, IL. Plans had been to keep going westward but funding was cut in the financial panic of 1837. The route you showed us was designated US 40 during most of the 20th century and until 2011.

How interesting! Thanks so much for sharing that. I love historical info like this. It would be nice if they posted some signs along the route informing people of the historical significance of it.

John Edwards Special marker evident at 1:14, topmost above the US-150 shield. Besides the Panic of 1837, another reason the road wasn't extended farther westward was the invention of railroads. The first American common-carrier railroad, the B&O, was chartered in 1827, and by 1840 there were over 2,800 miles of track in place. TH of course was & is a major railroad hub.

Larry Bird put ISU on the map. I have lived here over 25 years now.

He sure did. One of the all time greats. It still makes me sad that he never got to play with Len Bias, the great college player from Maryland, who Larry Bird recruited I have heard and what a dynasty in Boston it could have been having Larry Bird and Len Bias on that team. Of course, Larry Bird was so great in his own right the Celtics won championships with him, but I think with Len Bias at his side, he would have taken home more.

My great aunt & uncle (long gone now) lived about 1/4 mile from where your vid ended. My (to be) mom & dad met at ISU about 60 years ago. Remember visiting aunt & uncle & cousins there many times, passed by that point many times. Dad's recollection of TH from his school days was that he got headaches from the industrial smoke and often had to wait a long time for trains to pass. How things change, maybe not for the better.

Thanks for posting this. Interesting to hear first timers' reaction to the town I lived in for many years. You guys are also good at keeping your cool while following GPS instructions!!!!

I have had experience with that, too, ... that GPS does not always give the best instructions. But at least they got there in this video, and you will eventually arrive at your destination. Their first suggestions are not always the shortest route.

Yes, although it's been a while! (I live a couple hours away now) Pretty good food! Although, I preferred the restaurant that used to be there before...Carosi's Italian. Had eaten there on a regular basis since I was in a highchair! Still, I would recommend!

Glad the video brought back nice memories and thanks for taking the time to say something. This was a video my wife didn't want to take because she said no one would ever watch it, that the subject matter was nothing anyone would be interested in. Well, 8600 views later, she admits that it turned out to be way more popular than she could have ever guessed. So glad I took and posted this one anyway.

@jasperedwards81
@jasperedwards81 8 жыл бұрын
+dgreenja It's fairly small, but not as small as the smallest ones I see out and about. It's sort of medium or average I think would be the best way to describe it. I will say I have been extremely happy with the quality of the video and audio that it records. I'm pretty sure this model is not sold anymore and have not looked at any ratings of its successors.
