Life during the 60s and 70s was magical to kids, unlike today's world anywhere USA, sadly. I was born in 1961 and enjoyed those times, though I was born in NYC but it was the same thing, what I'd do to go back to those times.

As if you were watching the video, living in a reality that was filmed a day ago, really, as if it was today, or as if you were there at that moment while it was nearly sixty years old.. Really, I feel that I entered a parallel world in a time capsule for minutes and went to the sixties and returned again to the end of the year 2022 AD. Indeed, this is what happened. This video was made by me accurately when I watched it in short. amazing video.

We start off on Santa Monica Boulevard with its forest of telephone poles, now gone. We then pop over to Wilshire Boulevard and see the endless construction that continues today. And hanging over it all is the deadly layer of smog. There were days in the 1960s and 1970s when we could barely breathe. During Stage 3 Smog Alerts we didn't have to go to school --- the Los Angeles equivalent to snow days. It's much better now.

I came through Los Angeles when I was in the military, once in 1960 and then in 1961. The roads and freeways as well as most of the cars were very different. Most of the ugly heaps they drove from the 1930s were gone and a major transformation had taken place in the previous 10 years. And everyone was driving a lot faster. On the Hollywood Freeway in 1960, the typical speed was 85 mph and that app[lied to anyone's grandmother, if she was driving there.
@LeHosko
@LeHosko Жыл бұрын
Today people drive even faster. I live on a suburban road in the UK and cars bomb down our road as fast as a light aircraft on some Saturday nights, it's insane. Police enforcement has declined and the horsepower of cars on easy finance available to young people has drastically increased.

Love American cars but not all the troubles boiling away in the 60s and hidden from all of the kids. Too many retro-living thinkers in the comments. It ain't so cool mixing your politics everywhere you go in this life. Let us just love the great American-made cars even if they did handle like jelly on the road sometimes and got you really banged up in a crash. Today's cars will keep you living longer even if they look like plastic boxes. Cruising down the street with the windows down smoking a cigarette.

Well, I would take the 60s over today. Back then you didn't have the stifling traffic you have today, nor the inflation. If you liked driving you learned to control those cars. The only thing I'm pretty uncomfortable about was the racism and discrimination that was more visible, if not prevalent then. That and the Vietnam War. Otherwise the 60s was marked by fun, speed, Performance. I will admit, though, I do like my fuel injected engines and the better handling of vehicles built since the mid 90s.

back then, those cars where nothing special like todays cars, but as time goes on the ones that are still around are highly appreciated.. Time changed so much since then.. to think cars now in 30 years would be appreciated highly like those.. 26 years before my time.. i can and truly appreciate the time before me...

Nah most cars built today won't last 30 years, and they don't have the same classic style that makes them timeless. Think about cars that were built in the 1990's, that's thirty years ago - none of them are anything special today. Car designs in the 1990's was so bland and boring - the Ford Taurus was considered a bold new design that other car companies copied lol the Taurus was so boring.

Au contraire mon ami...cars of the 50s & 60 were stylish and very special. you could tell them apart...unlike today's car that are truly nothing special. take one badge off a hyundai and switch with a Ford. No one would blink an eye.

The air nowadays is cleaner though. Just drive behind an old timer, see the black smoke, inhale it and realize every single car did that in the 60s. But you were used to it ;-)
