I get my 1964 Corvair running after sitting for about 3 weeks, then take it on a drive!

I cut my beginners driving years on Corvairs in the 69 to 74 time frame. Fun cars. Please be careful before you go drifting in this car! The rear swing axle suspension has some different behavior you will not find in any contemporary car! #1) this is important! Keep the rear tires pumped up! Use a tire with stiffer sidewalls! Front tires run lower tire pressures than the rear! Learn this and don’t forget it. 2) high side or cornering loads on the rear suspension can result in rear end jacking resulting in outside tire tuck under. That is where the jacking of the rear end results in a severe positive camber situation and the tire side wall rolls under resulting in loss of traction and spin out. Worst case, tire rolls under far enough to where the rim catches the pavement, and over onto your roof you go. That is why you need the higher tire pressure, to reduce this action. Also camber limiters to keep tuck under in check. The cars are simple, But can be tricky to properly work on as they are different from other cars of the period. They are good responsive handling cars over all for their time. We loved the ones we played with. Have fun with it.

Wow I really appreciate you taking the time to write this comment, I was made aware of this a while back and I never get too wild with the car. Thank you :)

I have loved Corvairs for years!!! My mom had a gold '64 Corvair Monza, and cruised all over Staten Island New York in it!!!😎

If you ever need to hide a bag of weed in a Corvair that horn cover is the best hiding place. Was pulled over so many times and they never found my stash. Good times.

Love the Ermine White with red interior! Took me a second to realize your car '64 has 1962 gauge cluster and glove box door! Looks like a fun car! I wanna go play with my Corvairs now!

I had a 1964 tan Corvair with a red interior and a 3 speed stick. Now I have a 1965 Corvair. Good hint to put gas in the float bowl.

I had That exact Corvair for 10 years. That was the safest year, because GM put a single leaf spring across from back wheel to wheel, and bolted it to under the Transaxle. I had a guy tailgating me on a country road. Lots of curves. So I gunned it and left him. He had a Mustang. I slowed down to see when he would catch up with me. He did, but he stopped tailgating me. I don't know what they did with the 1965, other than take 500 pounds off the curb weight. Up until 1964 the body was build by the Cadillac Division .my father-ibn-law was a chief inspector of the Corvairs at the GM plant here in St. Louis. When Fisher Body started to make the new body, he quit. Anyway, Nader can just go soak his head. One time in the winter I had a lot of fun in the snow. I didn't like the 2 speed Power Glide. I once did 60 MPR uphill in 1st gear. That flat 110 engine was something else.

My '67 sat for 20 years, so there is much to do. Fuel tank, front suspension, engine, electrical. No rush, just having fun. My first car, I bought it in 1980.

The fuel tank was one of the first things I did, lot's of fun, I also changed out innner and outer tie rod ends along with a new nylon pitman arm bushing. Wish I had started recording earlier but better late than never!

Judging by the 2 extra holes in the firewall, I think your car may have been equipped with air conditioning originally.

@@benbencorvair9071 my '65 500 sedan has factory air conditioning, which in a base 500 is an even rarer option. I'm thrilled to have it! I have early models, late models and Forward Controls. I love Corvairs! Glad to see other younger people sharing the passion, and keeping Corvairs alive! If you haven't joined Corsa, you should (great club magazine, lots of great people). Hagerty gives discount for being a Corsa member, which is another perk. I love cruising in my Corvairs!

Live and learn. After it falls off the first time he will know better. Corvairs run so clean without that belt.
