Please tell me you were on Maui and visited Maalaea Bay . The fastest wave in the world breaking right on lava reef with trade winds at 30 mph everyday . My one time visiting Maui I lucked into end of big summer swell . I went straight there in afternoon and paddled out . Lots of locals . I paddled to jetty where wave starts . Perfect conditions , 10 - 12 foot faces . Wave is really too lineup up , except offshore winds hold it up . I battled for a wave caught one landed on reef on my back . Came back out determined to catch one . Locals were taunting me I don’t belong there as I was a bloody mess . Then I went for one and pushed over lip into massive wind and made the drop ! I grabbed my rail as I was goofy foot . The enormous lip came over me and I was in a giant barrel that was lining up for a mile . I probably rode in that tube for 10- 20 seconds . Seemed like dream . Lip finally hit me broke my board , destroyed me and I swam over lava to beach and had to walk back 1/2 mile to Barbour . My dad picked me up , we went to drug store and bought neosporin and bandages . Went back to hotel in Kiehe. I was so happy . It made trip for me . Best wave I have ever had in my life . Next day swell disappeared . I didn’t care and enjoyed my time with family . Aloha

Did you spot any turtles at kawela Bay? There are usually dozens of them there at a time swimming or hanging out by the edges of the shore

How do you know where to stop for the opening of the bay? Where to park?
