Driving On WA SR-2 North/South In 1987 (Spokane)

Back in 1987, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove North/South on SR-2 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

This video proves Rax was in Spokane, as many doubted it, thinking it was a Northeast chain.

I remember Rax being here, but it was very brief. I think they were gone by the early ‘90s. They had a few locations in town and advertised heavily on TV. (“Rax it up! I’ll take it!”) I worked at the Burger King in the former Rax location seen in this video when I was in high school in the late ‘90s.

Final frame, I see my old favorite Chinese restaurant, Gung Ho. They had a dish called almond fried chicken that I haven’t found anywhere else over the years. It was and still is my favorite dish!

The 2 McDonald's locations at 8:47 and 16:30 (seen again at 20:07 and 27:00) used to fly 3 flags - The US flag, the Washington flag and the McDonald's flag. I don't remember that.
