I'm with you on the 4x5.5 bales. I hate weaving now that I have a Gehl 2840 it's great. 1,100 lb bale, no weaving and nice tight bales. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, small world. The dealer sticker on the baler is from Dinkel Impl Co of Norfolk, NE. I spent the first 30 years of my life around/in Norfolk. Have been in Dinkel Impl several times in my life. larsonvalleyfarm, you are in Wisconsin, correct? The tractor is from Alabama. Amazing how farm machinery can travel all over the country.

Had a similar deal... My son found a 2010 7230 high clearance in south Texas for about 1/3 of the going price....He bought it and had it shipped to S.C. Oh boy.......Major electrical problems... I think the tractor gave problems early in it's life and he could not fix it or find it a home... The problem was a connector in the control panel under the hood. it had a electrical spade connector partially pushed out of the block...dropping some power from the control to the master panel behind the seat..They started jumping power from one circuit to another to try and fix it...We secured the connection removed all the jumpers insulated the damaged wires and everything works like it should.... My son told the dealer that the only way we would keep it is, he send us a new harness....He did so I can relate

Good thing you guys got it figured out. Its always nice when you can pick something up for a great price, do some fixing and end up having a nice piece of equipment at a great price! I am not looking forward to the future of repair work on these newer tractors with all the electronics on them

We have 2 balers like that one mine is just twine but dads can net wrap I think you need 130HP We use 150HP tractors and have no problem and know one sells 4' wide balers in my area for 30years. The hay dealers bale all in big squares and they truck them 3 wide The feed lots and dairies all use big squares.

Sounds like your cousin can't catch a break. I agree with the Vermeer my uncle has one I don't know if you saw my round baling video but can roll down the field in hay heavier than that if the field isn't rough. I plan to own a Vermeer if I decide to buy a round baler

I owned a Vermeer 604K before my New Holland 644 and when I decide to upgrade again I am going back to a Vermeer - looking at the 504N or the 504 Pro, just waiting a couple years and hopefully I can find a clean used one.

I have a 4x4 krone baler and I love it because it's 540 pto and doesn't take a lot of horsepower to run my 65 hp John Deere runs it just fine and it makes nice bales sometimes there is no need for 1000 pto and a lot of power nice vid

Nice work Brad. That crap in the tank could've damaged the fuel system and that's why it don't have the power. How come u don't like 5x6 for Custom work I didn't quite understand that

The biggest issue is with hauling the bales. 4x5's fit on a trailer = 8 feet wide, 5' bales on a trailer are 10' wide, most customers want 4' bales. And most of our customers are hobby farmers and don't have equipment to handle 2000 pound bales. In my experience 5 foot balers have more issues with belts twisting when starting a new bale. I have had 2 5 foot wide balers and had nothing but issue's, all the 4' balers I have had or ran never had as many issue's.

The only hay we bale here is square bales. Those are exclusively for the horse and hobby farm market. Since we have no winters cattle graze year round. Only one farm here has a round baler and it's a John Deere. No one uses a bale kicker but accumulates and drops groups of bales to pick up later with tractor or skid steer. Horse owners hate round bales.
@larsonvalleyfarm
@larsonvalleyfarm 7 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. A lot of large square bales here, but not many small squares anymore, too hard to find help. But most beef guys prefer rounds as they can site outside.... I wish I could graze year round, that would sure cut down operating expenses!!! And horses should be limit fed so they dont sit and eat all day and just get fat and founder. We pull hay off the round bale and give our horse a set amount morning and night, if she starts loosing weight we feed her more, if she starts getting pudgy we cut her back.
@cleatrampler
@cleatrampler 7 жыл бұрын
Small squares are not much work at all. As for help how many workers do you need? One to run the baler, one to run the tractor or truck with trailer, and one in the tractor or skid steer, As you probably guessed I am usually the skid steer guy. Nobody else wants the rough ride and hot weather when the tractors and trucks have air conditioning. The bale grapple can also be set up to accumulate bales scattered all over the field but dragging bales around makes no sense. You are right about horses, they will eat and eat and not get any exercise. I have never had a horse, but friends I know with horses say what you wrote.

We do 4x5, plenty big for us. Not too worried about the equipment, I think it can handle it. But they are harder to push around in the barn if they are 5x6, and harder to feed, for us anyway.
@larsonvalleyfarm
@larsonvalleyfarm 7 жыл бұрын
My problem is a 5x6 is hard on loaders and skid steers (weight wise) Most guys who we custom bale for want 4x5's because they fit on the trailer better
@macfarms
@macfarms 7 жыл бұрын
I guess it would depend if it was silage or hay also. Our 4x5's aren't real heavy. You get a decent baler that can pack a lot of hay in a bale then the story might be different. I'd probably have to buy a skid steer for 5x6's I don't think my 135 would lift them lol

Ive hear from a lot of guys them nh balers have a hard time starting a bale an they have two many steel rollers inside of the baler bad for leaf loss!!
@larsonvalleyfarm
@larsonvalleyfarm 7 жыл бұрын
New Holland has a lot of moving parts, those steel rollers, stuffer feeder ect. And expensive! I plan to go back to a vermeer, but i am going to run my 644 for a couple more years. I am waiting to hear how these new 504 pro's are doing, I think they finally can out with a wide pick up head.

I was told that a NH baler ...The rolls in the baler spin the bale the belts don't really do much....
@larsonvalleyfarm
@larsonvalleyfarm 7 жыл бұрын
Yes and no! The rolls do help turn the bale, but mostly they help to form the bale. The belts are what actually make the density of the bale via hydraulic pressure.

I wish i watched you tube when this was made.... the problem with belts twisting is there too loose... they need tightened id would bet... problem with the monitor seems to be a electric problem big inline breaker goes bad and lets voltage drop to low not being able to cut the net..... And the way i bale.... id kill that poor tractor!

Well" my opinion! Sure this might not be the problem? But maybe the tractor doesn't have enough horsepower? A's in maybe the tractor is a bit small.! For that baler, but that's my opinion. So nice video of that.

Northern Wisconsin Farming well it's like they say! things do get wore out,...lol but at least you guys got the parts fix up. Starter roll? Am not quite sure on what you mean by that.? A's in on, or above the pickup head.? Or what it is sure doesn't sound good.
@larsonvalleyfarm
@larsonvalleyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
Randy Maylowski yes, the roll right above the pickup. My cousin bought it as a repairable machine that someone had started working on. They changed that starter roll and put a smooth feed roll in it. After he realized what they did, he got the right roll from ASAP, replaced almost every bearing on it and now it works fine
