Driving T-Post With Our New Gas Powered Driver
We are moving along with our #fencing project on the back 20. The ground is pretty hard in most places, so we decided to invest in a #gaspoweredtpostdriver. It turned out to be a very good investment and helped us drive these #tpost a lot faster! Several people told us just to use a bucket on a tractor, but due to the hard ground and hills, it just wasn't possible.
We are getting close to completing this project! We have started putting up some barbed wire and will hopefully be finishing it in a couple days and turning out the cows.
The T-Post driver we bought is a Titan PGD2875

If you will put the worker and the driver in the back of a pick-up, you can drive down the line installing the posts really fast.

We have a Titan post driver and love it. I use a step ladder and use ear protection! We mark the T-Post at the bottom to know the height. I have a video on my channel where I use it by myself and I'm old and out of shape.

Yeah we have used it with a step ladder and makes it much easier. Just aggravating dragging it around the pasture. its much easier than driving them by hand though!

still using the FEL here, lose a post of two, but did rent a big post driver for my wood post and it worked fairly good and I only sharpened a few post, and like other posters have mentioned, I'd look at adding some length on that tube/driver, hate for that thing to get away from you and do what a manual driver did to me when somebody picked up a (unknown to me) shorter "T" post, I'll just say the stars came out early that day😵
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt Жыл бұрын
I think thats probably the best option to add some length to it. I've seen stars before myself with the manual driver. No fun!

Had the same model one, and we returned it. The Honda engine is fantastic, of course, but the overall design isn't too great in my opinion. Like you said, its depth is too short, which takes a lot of energy to balance. I would recommend to purchase the models that have extender handles, however those cost 3-4x more. Worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. We looked at some other ones but like you said they were a good bit higher. Overall we are pretty pleased with what it does for the price. Glad I don’t have to run it over I often though.

Great video, thanks for pointing out the possible issues with it. Do you think you could weld a section of pipe onto it to get a longer hold on the posts?
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt 2 жыл бұрын
It’s possible but on the end of the driver it’s threaded so you can change out the plastic piece for different size posts. If you welded something on the end it would need to be threaded on the bottom so those plastic pieces would still work.

@@FarmerHunt seams like a threaded sleeve/pipe could be made to thread right onto the driver.

If we would use a step ladder to reach the top of the 9' post... Do you think this power driver would drive a steel round fence "S-20 Pipe Post" for a 5'H (2" x 9'H & 4' into the ground) around a basketball court into asphalt if I predrill a starter hole with a hammer drill using 1-1/4" concrete bit? You have any problem keeping the post straight?
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt Жыл бұрын
We have driven some post like that with it. As long as you don’t hit rocks it should drive them. It’s not real hard to keep them straight. Just get you a good level and somebody to help you and you should be good.

Help - I bought one - confused about gearbox lubrication. There is grease in the gearbox now. Instructions say to check and “add oil as needed” Does it take oil or grease?
@FarmerHunt

We haven’t used ours lately but best I can remember you grease the gearbox and there is a dip stick for the oil

How much faster is it compared to a manual driver? Have you figured out the cost per 1 person and a manual driver verses a 2 people and a gas powered? How much fatigue does the operator get?
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt 3 жыл бұрын
That's hard to say. If I am driving more than about 5-10 post i'm definitely getting out the gas powered driver. My only complaint with the gas powered driver is you can't let it sit on the post without holding it on there if that makes sense. If I am driving a handful of post with the gas powered driver I can do that by myself. If I am driving a bunch of posts it is easier to have a second hand. I think it's well worth the investment though if you drive a lot of post.

I live in northeast Georgia where we have lots of red clay would you recommend this on that type of soil? Thanks
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt 10 ай бұрын
Yes, our soil is probably very similar. The only issue we ever run into is if the ground is bad rocky. It will bust some rocks but if its just red clay you should be good.

I wonder how good it would work in hard tennessee red clay
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt 3 жыл бұрын
If you don’t have a lot of rocks it’ll probably work good. Only issue we ran into was if we hit rocks. It has a hard time busting through them. If we hit a rock we would either move it or use a hand driver to bust it. Once it was busted we would finish it with the gas driver. The ground here is pretty dang hard.
