In this video I am going to explain to you what a blind yield junction is and how to handle them in a way that is safe, convenient and practical. A blind yield junction is one where you don't necessarily have to stop but sometimes it is essential to stop, the best way to prepare for these is to be aware of the first gear trick which is a fantastic way to approach these tricky junctions and stay in control. In this video I will clearly explain what the first gear trick is and how to implement it in a way that will give you more control and confidence at blind junctions.

@sensiblewheels

Good luck for you test! You got this. Okay I'm by no means an expect on this, but I don't think it's going to be an issue if you're able to control the car in second gear at that speed, safely and comfortably. Yes it's not the most efficient way but I don't think that warrants a minor! That's just my 2 cents
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
If you're up around 30km then you need to be in 3rd gear mostly as it's better for the engine and more environmentally friendly, 2nd is more of a climbing gear. Best of luck with the driving test

Hi Dane, I’m been studying you videos lately and I’ve found them so helpful! I’ve just a question in regards to turning right at a junction. How do you know which lane to choose when turning right? What’s the best way to identify a dual carriage way? Thanks in advance
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive Жыл бұрын
It depends on what markings and signs are there when you are turning, normally keep right turning right. A dual carriageway has 2 lanes at least so if you see a 2 lane road up ahead there's a good chance its a dual carriageway. Also you might see a road sign letting you know this.

Hi Dane, nice videos as always! I have a question at 6:31. Did you cancel your indicator because you could see that there's someone and you're not going to move anyway so you didn't want to confuse them? That's what I think it is and I would have the instinct to do that too!
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right, I cancelled it because I wanted the other driver to know that I wasn't in a rush to pull out. Also because I was parked sticking out, as opposed to being in a parking space/bay off the road, I felt it better to cancel momentarily.

Probably the same reason why some people vote for Donald Trump and others vote for Joe Biden. Because we're all different and I hope that's the way it will stay because the world would be very boring if we were all the same. Just because there are different ways to do things doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

How’s it going Dane just wondering would some testers think first gear trick is coasting at junctions???
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
I hope they do because that's exactly what it is - coasting. But coasting is not a problem in this scenario because we are going so slow and doing it for the greater good of improved control and a better opportunity to see what is coming. So whether some random tester thinks it's coasting or not? I couldn't care less because I know it's safe and practical for tricky blind junctions.

Hi Dane, what about when you're going down John's Road and there's the cross junction and you're indicating to turn right when the light is green. Where would I be positioned whilst waiting as the traffic coming up the hill are also indicating to turn in the same direction I am (towards Jim McGees) I got a mark for this in my mock test as I waited at the white line as I waited for a gap in the traffic while the light was green and then turned right up along by Jim McGees. 😊
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
Good old Jim McGee, I'd say every soul in Wexford knows him. Once the light is red you remain behind the white line, but once it goes green you must roll up into the middle of the junction and give way to oncoming cars. All will be revealed in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXPao6ipo7ODnrM If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Hi Dane, thanks for all your helpful videos, finding some great content before test on Thursday. Also great to see a fellow Wexford man succeeding at getting such a large KZbin following; fair play to you. Hope you could answer the following: when turning right from a minor road junction (with one lane for turning right) onto a main road with three lanes (including a bus lane on the far left), should I be in the middle lane or right lane after the turn? Is the far right lane always for fast moving traffic? Thanks a mill.
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support and best wishes with the driving. In that case it would appear that you should use the middle lane as the left lane is a bus lane and the right lane is usually for faster moving traffic. However an exception could be made if directional road markings allow.

In general do you have to come to a complete stop for a blind junction that has a yield sign ? I was told if you don’t fully stop for any blind junction it’s a fail even if it’s unmarked. Some junctions only open up when your 1 or 2 cars away from the junction, would they be considered open
@DaneTygheletsdrive

It all depends on the situation, the more blind it is then the more likely you will need to stop. Not all junctions are equally blind.

I can’t find any regulations on the RSA website or from any emails from the RSA that mention that having an operational passenger side window is a must. What should I do now?
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 3 жыл бұрын
Well I'm happy to clarify that the tester was absolutely correct to cancel the test because your passenger side window wasn't functioning. Your car and all its parts must be in full working order and this is especially true in relation to the windows during the current Covid 19 crisis where ventilation within a vehicle is very important. How you thought this wouldn't be an issue is a mystery to me. There's absolutely nothing you can do only reapply, try again only this time make sure your car is in the proper condition. If I was a driving tester there is no way I would have tested you today.

I forgive you. The honest answer is that sometimes it is safer to do junctions in first gear, for example if they are blind or dangerous. Other junctions can easily and safely be done in 2nd gear, it will depend on the situation and the junction. To try and do every junction in 1st gear under some illusion that you are being safe is ridiculous in the real world not to mention dangerous and irresponsible, it would probably be frustrating to other drivers and lead to problems. Driving doesn't consist of easy one word answers, each junction needs to be judged on an individual basis.

It's difficult to say because each situation is unique, but it might just be that he's creeping out to either get a better view or in preparation to take off. But if you feel he's too eager you still have right of way and it might not be practical to stop on the roundabout but you might not have a choice depending on the situation. Perhaps keeping a little right as you leave could be an option while making sure you are indicating correctly and checking your mirrors, a quick blind spot or sideways glance would be useful too.
