Mum has one of these, my Nan bought a 2003 example originally, we got it in 2014 when they switched to only having one car and I now drive it occasionally. It has been completely faultless. I have found it the easiest car I have driven so far (our one is an auto) but the simplicity of it is just what I wish cars were like nowadays with no complicated electronics. I have since purchased a Bluetooth FM transmitter with USB charging and have put that in the cigarette lighter to modernise the infotainment offerings. This set up has worked wonders and means I can keep my phone charged, use Waze and listen to Spotify.

Great cars and actually way better than the (first) Auris that replaced it. The owner of this one still has it and won’t ever sell it I think.

Definitely more reliable than a Golf that's for sure!

I must agree, many would perceive the Golf to be more reliable (although not an unreliable car) my money would be on the Corolla.

Owned a e12 t-sport and what a motor...on 180k miles and did many trackdays on it. You can't beat a high revving NA engine ! I do miss it

Nice story with the young owner inheriting the car from his grandad. Glad he dealt with the rust , nasty surprise on the inner arches.

Great video. I’ve got a 2003 D4D version, only 89bhp but I picked it because of its notoriety as a reliable car. Great little car, got it 2 years ago and it only had 29k miles on the clock!

Don’t ever sell it . The 2.0 90 D4D belt driven is in my opinion the best of the bunch

I like these, especially the facelift. Good, reliable and well built. Does the job well. I nearly bought one, but the sale fell through and bought the Focus instead. A colleague of mine had the rare T-Sport compressor and that was very nice.

I remember considering ine of these or a Hinda Civic in period when i was having some major issues with the new Clio i has at the time. In that moment the two Jaoanese cars appealed to thebsensibke side of my brain. I recall a review at the rime xonparing the hot versions if the Cluo, Civic and Corrola and the Homda was the fast, revvy one, the clio the best handling and the toyota had the best brakes. I think that sums up the Toyota. Probably less apealing than the others in teems if our right desirability but it was very much a car done properly. Earlier versions of the corrola consistently topped the JD power Survey and Toyota clearly capitalised on its reputiation for reliability and xistomer service. They knew their demographic for this car. Easy to get in and out of, reliable and solid. I remember Toyotas small/midsize MPV from the period too and they also had a reputation for class leading build quality.

I know these well, as you know, and for the first time they got a little bit of desirability added to bullet-proof reliability. The styling was a massive improvement and the interior was actually a very pleasant place to be.

Boringly reliable. Just what you need for a daily driver. That leaves more money to spent on classics. 🤣

I have this car and a mazda mx-5. I use corolla everyday as you said, and when the sun shines I’ll hit my mx-5 to curvy roads. Corolla is really a dependable car, it saves money that I can spend on a sports car
