The Mescaleros opened the Gas Station casino on Highway 70 when the main casino was closed for a major renovation. Smart move, they didn't lose one day of gambling revenue.👍💰💰💰

Had never seen the 244 road up to 82 like that in a video. Cloudcroft has great access. Thanks for being so generous with your time and your local knowledge - it's greatly appreciated, sir.

Hi Rusty. I found your channel a couple of months ago. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos now. I have never been to New Mexico. I think what I enjoy most about your videos is that I get to see places in detail. After several videos I really start getting a feel for what Capitan New Mexico and Fort Clark Springs Texas are really like. Without your videos I would have no idea. Also, l love the drives through the scenic mountains with beautiful wide open spaces. George from Southern Ontario.

Ive been going to NM almost since I was born so my attraction is a combination of memories and the terrain! In general the southern part is high desert. The west and north west is desert more like Arizona and Nevada. Central and northeastern NM is more forested. Rusty favorite area seems to be the south and central areas. My favorite in the north eastern part. Red River, Eaglenest, and Taos.

Enjoyable drive! Towel helps. As for wind, oh we get a lot of wind in Cloudcroft during the windy season (this Spring we were out of electricity for over 51 hours one time, due to all the trees blown down in a bad windstorm knocking down power lines.) One windstorm this Spring knocked out electricity in Cloudcroft village to the point that even Allsups and Family Dollar were closed, including all the little stores on Burro. The worst of the wind is behind us when you come up here from Texas.

Yes, the towel helps, but maybe put it on your pre-drive checklist so that you can lay flat on the dash...IMHO. Nice drive.👍👍👍

It's highway 70 and goes to Alamogordo and on to Las Cruces. You turn off it to go to Cloudcroft.

I want to go drive many of these type roads you do Rusty. I am still shopping for truck/RV and it's driving me crazy trying to decide what to buy. So many options" Truck and bumper pull, or 5th wheel? Class C, or Class B motorhome. If truck and camper/ what truck? what sized camper? They have to be compatible. How big of camper do I need? Am I even going to like RV'ing? So much going through my mind it's driving me nuts. I am not rich by any means, only have one shot at this. Did you ever struggle with "what to buy?"

How generous of the govt giving the Apache a little plot of land considering that whole area was once theirs.

It is good to see that, in New Mexico, the Apache still own some substantial land and livable infrastructure. Looking at Texas (and Comanche) it is a different story. A story all about money and greed.

Something else I should mention here for visitors to this area. Notice all the skid marks and blood splatter on Highways 244 and 82. That is where people are driving too fast at dawn, dusk or at night, and nail an elk, wild horse or cow. It's not unusual to see vehicles totaled in the ditch beside these roads, the large dead animal close to them.
