I'd like to purchase a Toyota Champ truck. Can you purchase one in Thailand and then ship it to America? I'm sure that you would have to pay the Chicken Tax and it most likely will pass all of the EPA standards so that it's legal to drive in America. Not 100% about that but I think it would be legal.

In the '80s, the government introduced a new law that made it harder to import new cars from abroad. Furthermore, in the '60s, a tax called the Chicken Tax added a 25% tax to light-duty trucks, which the Hilux was. To get around these laws, Toyota started making cars in the US, as that would avoid those regulations.

Even if it cost $15k and met all US safety and emission standards, it would never sell here; dealers can't get you hooked for 84 months @ 9%, and it's not brodozer / 'influencer' cool. Very refreshing seeing this, as it reminds me more of how it used to be in the US - Pickups used as pickups, not vanity projection devices that used to be the cheapest new Toyota vehicle on the lot. I remember when a new Corolla cost more than a basic new Toyota truck.
