I am not a fan of what they've done with the hybrid battery here. It is in the cargo area, which is not good if you have wet items in the rear or something leaks back there. It requires you keep several vents clean and unblocked in a cargo area in order to have airflow to keep the battery cool. And I have heard that the deck lid at the very rear, designed due to the battery location, can only support 150 lbs; again in the cargo area where that little area could see some weight, though it might be in only odd circumstances.

LOL at some of these comments. For the vast majority of 5th Gen 4Runner owners, the top complaints have been how the 4Runner is hopelessly outdated and underpowered in 2024 standards. Now that they have seen the 6th Gen (and the LC250), the 5th Gen is suddenly back to being Toyota's irreplaceable chariot of the gods. You simply can't squeeze any more power and torque out of that naturally aspirated V6. Toyota gave what the whiners complained about - more power. The result? Even more whining than before. LOL!!!

I've never given two hoots about all of the electronic nannies as I enjoy driving my vehicle and having as much control over it as possible. The only thing that I like on the new Prado is the Torsen centre-diff, but again, only for paved road, mixed condition (snow and rain) driving , as you still want to lock the centre diff for maximum slow speed, technical and difficult off-road conditions. Funny how we are - 3 years ago you could buy the best (non-70 series) Land Cruiser in the world (the LC200) for $86000 in the US, and now you're paying $77000 for a Prado :) Imagine getting rid of the top of the line Supra and giving consumers the GR86 for the same price and having them thank you for it - good one Toyota!!!!

I like the direction Toyota has taken with the styling on this and the fact that there are meaningfully distinct trim levels.

Just bought a 2016 4R TRD Pro that I'm picking up today. I sold my 2008 200 Series Land Cruiser about 2 years ago. Haven't owned a 4R since my 2005 model but I'm looking forward to it. The new pricing and less "luxe" is probably the way to go for Toyota and I'd love to have one someday but not at these prices. Luckily both being 500k mile vehicles built at Tahara the used market now is the way to go since it has "settled" down from the insane 2022 prices. I still wish Toyota would bring the 70 series here with safety features so it could be sold for around $45k. I don't think it would cannabalize too much. Its even more utilitarian

Caveat: on road manners of 4Runner equipped w/ KDSS probably rivals the Land Cruiser. Sway bar is also beefier on KDSS models for minimal body roll. 4Runner w/ KDSS also has increased articulation under 12mph with essentially a disconnectable sway.

So effortless on the trails. Love this thing! Can't wait to see more off-road adventures from your first edition.

First thing needed: new tires (such as Falken Wildpeak A/T’s). *For the 4R: ‘S’ is not ‘sport’, it’s ‘sequential’, to keep it in and/or control which gear it’s in. C’mon, you should know this!!!

I hope you'll redo this video when the new 4Runner comes out. I know you said you're preferring the new comfort and tech stuff. As my vehicles have leaped forward in tech over the last decade (newest was a 2020 Stinger GT2), I've started heading in the opposite direction. The older tech/design of the 4Runner kind of appeals to me.

Just brought in a LHD '22 LC79 for my farm property, and a '23 daihatsu hijet camper box van from bug truck of tarbow japan, also LHD. I think a better investment then my wifes new cruiser like this, and her lexus variant as well. For now I'll keep importing what I need and use for my ranches and farms, also brought in a handful of upfitted hilux champs to replace the clapped out regular cab tacomas.

What is the technical difference between 4L in the forerunner and 4L in the Land Cruiser? Doesn’t the Land Cruiser have the axles locked at that point as well so it functions more as a 4wd than an awd at that point correct?

I actually like how long Toyota keeps their models around for. It shows that the vehicle is reliable and dependable for several years to come. And I like old school simplicity of their vehicles; no constant rotation of complicated bells and whistles that no one needs or really uses, which goes out of date within a year or two that other truck and SUV brands employ. Toyota's dependable conservatism is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

A lot of ppl have been wondering where this Land Cruiser draws its styling from? Well my uncle in Nicaragua owned a 1992 Land Cruiser prado which at the time was an offshoot of the 70 series land cruisers with a more plush utilitarian use rather the commercial ones. This Land Cruiser draws it’s inspiration completely from that model first gen prado

Just curious, for the money, why did you end up skipping over the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail? Its in the same price ball park, Lexus generally has better quality standards and overall it has better performance then the LC, larger tires, more trunk space and better towing numbers. Love the look of your Land Cruiser though better than the lexus and Land Cruiser is a better nameplate in my opinion haha.

There's a few reasons to go with the LC trim + Premium Package over the GX. The LC is equipped much better than the GX550 OT, but is roughly $12k cheaper than the similarly equipped OT+. The GX also has abysmal real world mileage, whereas the LC can exceed 20 mpg. I also prefer the physical HVAC controls. Admittedly, the First Edition trim is a bit overpriced.

Same 265/70r18 (32.5 or "33s") tyres on LC250 and GX. Only the lowest LC trim has smaller 245/70r18 (31.5"). Of course you don't need to swap the OEM ATs on Overtrail, whereas the LC ones can go off right on dealer's lot. Rest is true of course. But the way Toyota market segments is that you can never have all the features you want :- )

No spare on the rear tailgate is dumb. It would only help sales! And actual off road capabilities. And with the mandatory rear camera doesn’t block rearward views

I love everything about my 5th gen 4Runner, EXCEPT the gas mileage but I wouldn't spend around $60k to solve that problem especially with the longevity issues associated with a hybrid/turbo 4cyl. I'll give it a few years and then re-evaluate. But KZbinrs always upgrade and encourage the latest-greatest because it drives content.
@matthewthomasartАй бұрын
Toyota has begun lying to buyers too: You can get a full sized SUV that won't have an asthma attack running with 2.4L heart, cloth seats and for 60k and feel great about it! THey perfected the hybrid system, but I think they are stretching it in 2025 beyond reality. I'm going with a 2024 4Runner.

Toyota fan here can admit they are totally riding the fan wagon and went cheap. Not a fan of the new guy running toyota because theres never been so many models with issues until now. 🙈

@@Anomize23 I think the forced push into emissions guidelines by the feds also have them jamming small turbo engines with assistance (electric compnenets) to keep sales coming in. To me, these are just more parts to break down. Turbo just sounds like somethign that can sprint fast, but for the long game of 250k miles, you are out of luck. Mitsubishi has a compact car now for 17k, new.

Great clip! Might get 5 years out of that LC. Turbos and 4 cylinder, no thanks. Had the 1999 LC, GX470 both tanks, V8, bomb proof. Next rig to add will be the FJ40. If you trade out trucks every couple of years, that there LC will be fine, don’t look for it on the road in 2044.

Awesome video. I’ll be straight up honest. 1st gen anything scares the hell out of me. It doesn’t help that with the latest tundra and Tacoma, Toyota has totally **** the bed. But truthfully above any of that, the price is just too outrageous for me. I can’t justify spending that kind of money. It’s a simple as that. Looks like I’ll be driving my 5th Gen 4runner till the wheels come off. Which is just fine with me.
@drivingsports4 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with that.

I suppose the strange thing is most people (presumably) pay a bit extra and buy toyota to drive it until the wheels falls off to which even if the Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra and all were great hits...would they even be the ones upgrading to it? I think perhaps targetted demographic is new customers to Toyota instead of existing ones that will upgrade but could be wrong

The Land Cruiser is new and has nice features but I’m leaning towards 5th Gen 4Runner. I owned a 2016 back when they called them trail editions and my only complaint was lack of power.
