I don’t see how anyone can hate on the CX90. That white interior is amazing! Everything is black now. My wife’s CX9 info knob works well once you use it more than a test drive. It falls to hand very well.

@Soh90 11 ай бұрын
The white interior is OK, but I prefer the black leather myself. Something about the white cloth doesn’t sit well with me. I had a 2019 AWD Mazda3 Preferred and I will admit that after using the knob for about 2 weeks, I started wishing that every car would implement it. It’s very easy to use and is very intuitive. My biggest issue with Mazda (and the reason why I traded it after only 3 years) is that the quality really isn’t all that well. Lots of squeaks after 3 years and overall, the interior just didn’t feel as well put together as the 328d that I replaced it with. I hope the CX-90 doesn’t suffer from that. If Mazda puts the 3 on a RWD platform, I might go back.

I was gonna say I hate black interiors with a passion. Nothing like a 200 degree seat to ruin your day,. so I actively shop for cars WITHOUT a black interior. Manufacturers know this, which is why pretty much every non-black interior option costs $$$$$....

I prefer the rotary dial for infotainment. It prevents the display from getting covered in fingerprints and smudges. The dial works just fine and I see it as an upgrade. Not substandard in any way

... seems to be fine in our CX-5. I want to know how often ppl muck w/the infotainement? there are steering wheel controls for frequently used functions. If you need vehicle parameter tweeks, how much tweeking are ppl doing while they are driving? if you are too concerned about vehicle parameters, pull over and change them. Can it wait; most likely....

A digital tachometer or Power meter is on the left side when you're in the EV drive mode. It shows a maximum line you can step on the accelerator before it goes out of EV mode and starts using the gas engine. I found this out after a couple times driving the PHEV, and it goes fast enough. As long as you're mindful of that, you can stay fully in EV mode.

I own this exact vehicle in the same color and this is a really excellent review. I disagree with what you say about the radial dial and I have learned to love it. However, this review is extremely thorough and fair. I also think you should give the inline 6 another shot. I recently had a Turbo S loaner and I really liked some of the features that it has (like lane centering) that the PHEV lacks. Maybe you can review a base Turbo Premium Plus with the lower horsepower 28O horsepower in the black interior of course.

It’s obvious this vehicle needs work. Every car reviewer worldwide has pointed out its shortcomings. The sound and feel of the door handles, and the partially heated steering wheel do not suggest a premium product. Neither does the faux metal trim around the shifter. However, this is a gorgeous vehicle, inside and out! And I would buy it just for that. One may prefer a darker interior. But to say or even suggest that the white interior does not look good is an exaggeration. And as someone who actually spends money on Mazdas, I have zero issues with the infotainment screen.

same as above ^. I want to replace our CX-5 w/a '90 PHEV, however, the $7k price difference is several years of gasoline, even at inflated prices. Thanks for posting this, I've been trying to keep my eyes open for something like a PHEV Land Cruiser. This looks close and I bet it's fun to drive based on other Mazdas I've been in. 20 miles electric range sounds good, it would cover most of my trips around town. But I'm holding out for a PHEV with more off-road capability and towing capacity than this, even if the interior is less spacious and the wheelbase is shorter.

Also, something I've wondered about PHEVs, does the heater work without running the engine? I'd like to preheat the interior a PHEV inside a garage during the winter, without needing to worry about exhaust fumes.

This PHEV has electric motor between ICE and gearbox, as result even in EV mode you feel gear changes and acceleration pulsation, and lots of strange noises in EV mode. Then in auto mode, when accelerating with increasing throttle ICE starts but as it is extremely hard to keep smooth acceleration and start ICE and synchronise rpms you get awful random jerks. I might be biased after 8 years with CVTs but thats unacceptable for me now. :) The only mode this car felt proper was under explicit acceleration, felt sporty and nice engine sound.

Black interiors are hateful. If you live anywhere with a real summer, it's something to actively avoid. Never mind that it's become (like black trim/wheels) the cheap option in pretty much all cars. I actively avoid cars with black interiors, esp. black leather - that's just the definition of uncomfortable & depressing. As far as the dial, way, way better than a touchscreen - my BMW has this as well and it's all about muscle memory. Most touchscreens are just as bad as a phone for driver distraction and are mostly impossible to use...
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 11 ай бұрын
Totally agree about the touch screens and distraction reference. Been saying that all along since they started putting tablets in the dash of every vehicle forcing you to take your eyes off the road and scroll through menus to do anything now, where a simple button, switch or knob would have been a hell of a lot less distracting. Leather of any type in the summer is terrible, and its terrible in the winter...although 99% of cars don't have leather in their "leather" interiors, its garbage leather look a like vinyl. Regardless its terrible in hot weather and cold weather for sure. Black interiors and exteriors are horrible all around for hot weather anyways. Not sure I'd want white either though.

They need a battery that can be added in back in mutiples that shaped to stay in place and can be added too for longer distance. Someday they will make all batteries easily switchable so you can have extras at home and work precharged ! Do you plan on long distant trips to really test some favorites? That’s most carmakers’ way to deal with the efficiency regulations. Honda has been on this train for years. Peek at the new Tacomas if we’re talking about vehicles that shouldn’t try to compensate for lack of power with a turbo. It’s not like these are your typical aftermarket turbos either. The factory turbos are unlikely to damage the engine much, they’re over engineered and under-utilized. Only big negative is simply having that one extra thing to maintain.

Certainly the CX-90, the non-electric models must be very correct except for PHEV because now it's barely 6 weeks that I've had the vehicle, 5000 kilometers on it, and it's already horrible. Electric or hybrid mode does not work below -12 degrees Celsius. Brake problem: screeching brake, transmission makes a horrible noise when changing gears and is jerky. Several hybrid system malfunction error codes and so on. The car no longer recognizes the key. As for the other models in the range I don't know but for the PHEV models to avoid.

Personally, I am very happy with my 2023 Crosstrek PHEV because all of the important things can be done with buttons and I do not have to go wandering through menus. I even like it more than the 2024 Crosstrek, since things have been moved into the 11" infotainment screen instead of true buttons. While I get the transition in technology, I really dislike things only being available through the infotainment menus.

I agree. If you have to go scrolling through menus on a screen to turn the AC on change a radio station, etc....how's that any different than someone playing on their damn phone while driving. They whined about distracted driving by phone usage, so let's just install a damn tablet in the dash of every vehicle, then...lets put every control in a menu that you have to search through to adjust....because a damn button, switch, or knob was just soo hard to use for 100+ years. People don't keep their vehicles long enough anymore to realize what will happen when that touch screen system fails....now you need a new car because in a few years there aren't any parts to fix that stuff. At least with an old vehicle, when the radio stopped working, you simply either stopped listening to music, or you simply replaced the radio....can't do that now...radio stops working, you have to buy a new car to get a new radio.

One thing that always amazes me is how the mazda fans come out of the woodwork anytime something slightly negative about this brand is said on the internet. The fact is, is that if Mazdas were as good as some of y'all think, the public would speak by actually buying them, but look at their sales. Theyre mostly middling in almost every sense. I leased a 2020 Mazda6 and it was...just okay. I had no desire to buy it out. But if you look online you'd think it was the best sedan ever made. And those of you defending the awful infotainment system are absolutely lying. It leads me to believe you've never actually used it.😂

Survey says this dude is annoying. He doesn't know what he is talking about. The PHEV has a engine powered GENERATOR, not alternator. Of 10 youtube reviewers, he is probably the most annoying. It is undoubtedly Premium. The only thing Premium it wont have is breaking down at three-five years of ownership like the German auto's.

So with you on the black interior Ryan. I will never understand why anyone would get a white/cream interior. Color transfer from your cloths and you will constant have smug marks on the rest of the interior. Quickly turns into a dumpster fire if you don't clean it weekly.

Hi Ryan and thanks for that video ! Much appreciated. I need help please. I am considering making a move, but I hesitate. I work 7km away from home. I guess I can drive using the EV mode. That's interesting ! I have a 2021 CX-5 GT. I like it. I went to the dealership last week for maintenance and I had a sales representative to quote me on the CX-90 PHEV. I would have to pay 342$ more a month including a loss from the Cx-5 early sale. I wonder if over the long run, the fuel effeciency would write off this prince increase. I typically drive 35000km/year. Many thanks !

It depends on the price of power in your area. If you commute and power is cheap it could pencil out and you'd have a bigger car than the CX-5.
