@@Sportliveonline Answer to your question: How do you explain the Pharisees? Some believed after the resurrection.. The Apostle Paul for one. But, the majority were so hooked on their power trip that they even started the rumor of the Disciples stealing Jesus' body from the tomb. Just like today, I know it really happened, the evidence of the early church, especially, the Christian Church in Rome that wasn't started by any Apostle, a gentile Church. The fact that the Temple was destroyed as predicted by Jesus Christ himself. The Temple was totally leveled, not a stone remained of the temple. The historical evidence of outside writers and Roman historians. 2,000 years later they are still finding evidence of the early Church that hasn't been erased by the Roman Catholic church. That's for starters. You might want to know that your imperfect and a sinner first. Talk to God about it, he's available anytime and all lines are always open.

@@Sportliveonline Why don't you try writing your own myth today and see how many disciples you gain that are willing to leave their comfortable existence and die for it? Can you get atleast 500? Do you think you would wind up with billions of believers after a few centuries. What makes you think the disciples were able to pull off such a grand scheme of things within the same generation it happened? Could you or anyone you know pull that off? Something extraordinary happened. Something that got people, many who knew Jesus and his family, to say it's ok to die today if I have to. It's not like the people followed after someone in a different city. These things happened in real time, in their own home town and they were willing to die for it. If Jesus and his disciples were known to be a bunch of charlatans, I'm pretty sure all of this would have been easily squashed a long time ago, and yet here we are discussing it today.

that's a good answer for atheists to hear. Another good answer for them whenever they accuse us as 'being religious' is this: Christianity is not a religion - it's a RELATIONSHIP. They never have anything to say after that. (You can even explain that it's because Jesus is living - i.e.we have a living relationship with Him). But I'll try to remember that one about the vast conspiracy/feeding themselves to lions. Brilliant. Oh - here's another one I like - just remember the word MUP. Then it's easier to remember MUP is an acronym for Mindless Unguided Process. Because atheists - if they are evolutionists, too - believe we come from a common ancestor to chimpanzees - and, ultimately, that the same brain those atheists/evolutionists have and that they (presumably) claim has some claim to truth - is simply formed from the Mindless Unguided Process of atoms randomly moving around. That cannot be philosophically true. Is your interlocutor atheist/evolutionist concerned with truth? If s/he is, s/he cannot think that they are actually thinking in a true way. They also have nothing to say after that. But if they do - you can refer to CS Lewis he uses this argument in one of his books (Mere Christianity I think). Even Darwin notes this possible error in his theory (in a letter - I think the letter is to Wallace, but I'm not sure). Anyway, in my opinion the main thing is to save our strength for fighting with the devil - not with non-believers. We must put forth the above points, then leave them and pray for them diligently. Maybe they will be saved one day. I know I was a fervent atheist and evolutionist once upon a time... The Lord be glorified.

Whoa - Dr. Tour - RE - video time around around 54:40 with your conversation on the plane - I AM a reformed Baptist and my maternal grandma was 8% Abrahamic (clueless of the tribe) and my mom thus 4% Abrahamic, which makes ME 2% in descendance from Abraham. But per Scripture I am 100% a child of Promise, no less than Abraham, Moses, or David. I AM a staunch Reformed Baptist (which really means, put simply - predestined salvation + credo-baptism which means full immersion, not water sprinkled on an unaware baby's head, so per Christ's education of Nicodemus that evening on the roof, upon one who has ALREADY been touched by the Paraclete are those to be Baptized. The Spirit moves like the wind, and cannot be sought. One is either quickened, or he is not. There IS NO seeker). Please recall your experience in your dorm room - you REALLY think you chose that? Or that you invoked that? Are you arrogant enough to boast YOU chose Christ? I think not sir. I would have had that SAME witness on the plane - so as much as I love your teachings, I have NO IDEA here you get your hyper-Calvinist claims there. We in fact DO know that Yahweh not only determines the ends (predestination, a la Romans 8:28-30, Romans 9, or Ephesians 2, to name a modicum) but also the means "Faith comes by hearing" - so as much as I really LOVE you, you can take that hyper-Calvinist myth and revise that, good brother. You've got us (meaning, actual exegesis) pegged wrong, sir. And please note Jesus was baptized at 30 years old, did so as a believer, and subjected himself to deep-water (immersion) baptism - or should I just say "baptism"? - NOT the sprinkling of water on an infant's head whose only interest and awareness is filling his diaper and the next chance at his mommy's teet. Biblical exegesis commands me to follow Christ's example: credo-baptism, full-immersion, "for righteousness' sake". No clue where your false accusations against real Christians, the Reformed Baptists, comes from. All that said, I adore your teachings. I only ask you to explore what a real reformed baptist (meaning: original baptist, or simply - 1st century, post-ascension Christian) accepts via Berean exegesis from the Father's Holy Word. So-called "free will baptists" ignore exegeting Romans 8:28-30, Romans 9, or Ephesians 2 and arrogantly think THEY chose Christ - upon which they can boast in Heaven. Scripture precludes this.

When someone says to me "I know some parts of the bible are not meant to be taken literally" I become very very concerned. Can God lie or can He not? He can not. The bible is not hard to understand if you are really trying.
@coachmarc20023 жыл бұрын
We should take the Bible literally where it is meant to be taken literally but some parts are not meant to be taken literally. Language uses metaphor to communicate ideas. Jesus used a literary device known as a parable. Made up stories to teach spiritual Truth. The Psalms are in the genre of poetry, written to convey emotion in sometimes quite exaggerated ways. The Gospels are mostly history but aren't always told chronologically the way most of our current history books would likely be written. We must recognize the kind of literature we are reading and strive to understand the original intent of the author. Taking into account the culture and original audience is also important. Paul's letters were written to address specific problems in the early church and to explain the gospel of Christ to both Jewish and non-jewish audiences. We are to study to show ourselves approved. If it wasn't a little bit of a challenge that command would have simply been read to show yourself approved. The Bible can be inherent in its original form without necessarily being literal at all times.

I wish people would not try and use science as a "prove" for God. At least, and I am grateful to the two gentleman for that, they are not Young Earth creationists.

The problem is that spacetime is emergent, not fundamental. Consciousness is fundamental. What we "see" is an interface. See Dr Donald Hoffman's theory and book. "The Case Against Reality"

The picture starting to emerge from the last 40 years research in quantum gravity (which I expect this speaker knows very little about) is of spacetime as an emergent structure of an underlying deeper theory. There are some fairly simple thought experiments involving trying to make quantum measurements at the Planck scale to show this must be the case. This invalidates most of these old philosophical arguments.

My only challenge with the big bang is the age being proposed at ±13.7 which I believe is too young. There are 2 known stars pegged at 14.5±, so something is amiss. Also, the Milky Way is ±13.4 and is towards the universe's perimeter within what is called "Laniakea", and we have ±200 BILLION galaxies. Considering how long it takes a galaxy and suns to form there's no way 13.7 is even possible.

Dr tour, I really appreciate the videos you are putting out. Please continue to do so. On this topic of the Big Bang and the origin of the universe, I would like to invite you to ponder this verse from the Quran: “ARE, THEN, they who are bent on denying the truth not aware that the heavens and the earth were [once] one single entity, which We then parted asunder? - and [that] We made out of water every living thing? Will they not, then, [begin to] believe?” In another translation (since Quran was revealed in Arabic): “Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?” And on the expansion of the universe: “AND IT IS We who have built the universe with [Our creative] power; and, verily, it is We who are expanding it.” This unmistakable reference to the state of the universe before the Big Bang as well as the expansion of the universe after that, was revealed to prophet Muhammad more than a thousand and four hundred years ago. To put things into perspective, Edwin Hubble made the observation that the universe is expanding less than a 100 years ago. Knowing your love for Jesus Christ, I’d also like to tell you that Jesus Christ is one of the most highly regarded prophets in Islam, we believe in his miracles of bringing back the dead, as well as healing the blind and the leper with ALLAH’S permission.

I suppose when this was originally aired, it was live streamed; I am getting here late. All the same I do have a question; Perhaps it will be answered even though it’s tardy? I note that you on several occasions in this video state the universe is 13.5 billion years old? I am curious as to the why of this statement? I have heard others make it. I am quite convinced that we live in a young universe as is stated in scripture. I don’t want to make this a divisive topic, but it seems to me that if we claim scripture to be the word of God, Yashua is God, He said I am the truth, then ultimately, we should come at the question, this question of the age of creation, with one overarching conclusion its young, and then understand why everything else. I have heard this a few times……we are able to recognize great distances within the universe over which light has obviously traveled and we know the speed of light so can calculate the time it would take to cross them. But I have not heard anyone explain how fast God stretched it out. After all, let’s say it was six thousand light years across at creation and God stretched it to its current size. The light would have stretched along with the space it was in and would not have actually been moving any faster, the space it was in moved, changed. How can anyone say we know how far light most have travelled so dogmatically that they would disagree with scripture?

@@derhafi Rob, you make two claims neither of which address the question I posed. One that the scribe who wrote the scriptures knew nothing of the universe and so could not be trusted in anything asserted, and two that scientists do know which is actually the question I am asking and that makes your response a circular argument or logical fallacy by circular reasoning. To address the first claim that the scribes know nothing of the universe; I would point out that they don’t profess to. The information they relate is reportedly given at the direction of God, who quite obviously has an extensive, indeed one might argue complete knowledge of the universe. So, to dismiss the scribes and their writings is an over step on your part as you have no way of determining the quality of their claims. As to the second claim that scientists do know and remaining consistent with my specific line of query, I point out the Oort cloud. This is an asserted imaginary as in unobservable, untestable, proposed rescue mechanism for an old universe. So, when you say science knows, I am not sure at all how you concluded that reliably? Your comment did nothing to address my question and has instead offered two unproven unprovable erroneous statements. Was it intended to be useful/helpful?

@@derhafi You literally added nothing to the conversation or his question. An atheist, trying to sound smart, who makes claims about the universe being eternally old, or coming from absolutely nothing, is also very funny. The Bible is not "superstition" and you have no way to support your statement, and do not remotely understand a word you're saying, on either side of the issue.

As Dr Tour, and many since St Augustine, when reading Gods Word, as recorded by ancient Hebrews, it's is necessary to understand the context of the "Book" being read. With the New Test for instance, we are very certain of the intended context and intent of the books, by the authors. For the Old Testament, we are in many cases left guessing, and in some cases by individuals who seem to think they know everything, asserting the context and intent. For example, you would not posit that when a person who reads the Book of Revelation, that when it describes a 7 headed beast who will come out of the sea, that it is literally asserting that an actual monster, with 7 heads will come out of the sea, right? Or in the Psalms, when it describes us as sheep, you probably don't think we actually, in reality, have wool, bleat and that sort of thing. Pertaining to the first half of Genesis, it comes from ancient Hebrews. We do not have early church historians and theologians to give us any clue. Pertaining to the speed of light, this falls under the argument that "God created the universe with the appearance of age", sort of like when He created Adam, He didn't create Adam as a fetus lying in the dirt, He created Adam as an adult. Could be... but why resort to such unscientific arguments when we aren't 100% certain what Genesis means? After reading Genesis, I think it is safe to say, with 100% certainty, that God created the universe, life, human-life in His image, with the ability to do good and evil, that there is a personal force for evil (Satan), that God and angels exist, and that God would send a savior to defeat Satan. I think it's a huge mistake to try to read Genesis, and go around telling people how old the universe is, or rather the speed of light is constant or not. I simply do not believe that is what God intended with the Book of Genesis, and it seems to have almost become heretical in my view, because people preach this like it were the Gospel of Jesus or something. Like The Great Commission was "Go and preach to the world that the universe is 6,000 years old, and the earth is not very old, convincing them that dinosaur fossils are fake, and lo I am with you always to the end of the age". That's my opinion...

What seems to be overlooked is that physicists have a tendency to use the word "God" as a figure of speak. Such as Einstein's "God does not play dice" and all of Hawking's quotes. It doesn't mean they actually believe in God. It certainly doesn't mean they believe in a personal God like that of Christianity, which Einstein famously described as infantile.

You don't use the works of Shakespeare to prove he didn't exist. You don't use Mozart's music to prove he never existed. You don't use something that a person has created to prove that person doesn't exist. Likewise science, and the physical universe cannot be used to prove God doesn't exist.
@brucegreetham19513 жыл бұрын
True. But you can observe the universe and that can constrain what type of god is reasonable. For example you can observe that the evolutionary process has lead to immense suffering in the natural world and argue from that there is no loving god (the problem of pain).

Good talk, and I agree with everything that was said. But the argument for the cosmological argument didn't really follow from the argument that was presented, the author has used other arguments to get the God that made a provision of sins and all loving etc. William Lane Craig's arguments follows logically.
