I have dealt with severe symptoms since my early teen years but its worse and worse all the time. It affects my mental health badly. Antidepressants dont help. Willpower doesnt work. Recently I do get fibroids. I also had 3 csection. Is there any option besides hysterectomy. Maybe I can try getting those hormones balanced some way. I have been low in iron badly at times. I almoat had to have a tranfusion.

For women, progesterone is not just a luxury . Our health is based off of our hormones and if one of the endocrine hormones is off, they all are off. Progesterone is not just for fertility. It needs to be balanced so that the rest of the system can function.

what could be the reason why progesterone isn´t absorbed into my body? I´ve been taking it since 4 months..400mg vaginally, orally, rectally. Orally only dizzynesss but no effect, vaginally almost zero effect. Rectally works best. But still bleeding no ovulation. And my progesteron value was at 0,51 (i don´t think its any higher now) after 3 months of P. intake. What do i need to do?

@@madlenj.4644 I came across the information that the cortisol and progesterone are rather similar molecules. So elevated cortisol might effectively block the receptors for the progesterone and decrease progesterone effectiveness/absorptions into the cells doesn't matter how much of it in the blood. Please check it out. So, it may have something to do with the cortisol and a stress.

Wow. My mental health really deteriorated around when I started menstruating. I had the worst major depression episode at 13-14. Continued to have really bad anxiety all my life and I can barely remember having a depression or symptom free period in my life. I've always had large thighs. My period cycle has beeb comprised of pain, a little bit less pain and pain. To make it worse I think I may have Attention Deficit Disorder. I worked as a cabin crew and lacked sleep for a long time and that made it worse. I just thought this would be my life. I have been having chronic fatigue and pain in my legs and feet for the past couple of months now but I recently said what if I just try my best to take care of my physical needs and see if I can feel better. The health care system is really in a bad shape where I live. Getting an appointment is hard, the hospitals are stressful places and doctors are too fatigued. It makes it harder to look for solutions. I will incorporate these in my daily supplement take and hope for the best. I am so happy to have found you. The way you talk is so calming to me. There are no distractions and shiny intros in your videos which is very soothing for an overwhelmed mind. So easy to follow. God bless you for your support ❤️

Progesterone cream was a real lifesaver for me and helped some with anxiety, etc. Plus stress level was very high at that time. Eventually this all zapped my Thyroid ( not Hyprothyroid since 2008 ). In 2013 I found an Alternative Medical doctor who compounds his own bioidentical hormones and who required me to use Indole 3 Carbinol ( 200 mg a day...every day to remove excess estrogen from the body). Have been using them ever since. I use Progesterone, Estradiol and Testosterone every day. They are in the form of a gel / liquid ) Take a break of 7-10 days every 4 or 5 months.

I was normal forever, two healthy pregnancies - back to back (my kids were born 12 months apart), but now that we want to have one more, my progesterone level is 0.10 ng/ml. I’m only 30 and am incredibly healthy so it’s all come as a shock for sure! I wondered why suddenly I was prone to migraine, weight gain and sore boobs. I’ve NEVER struggled with PMS or any mood swings or physical symptoms. This is really enlightening. Thank you!

I have pcos and am estrogen dominant. I found out 3 years ago my progesterone levels were almost nonexistent. I had been having extremely heavy, long periods. I always felt tired and was bloated with a lot of abdominal pain. When I say starting progesterone therapy changed my life I'm not exaggerating. In a matter of weeks I felt like a better person. My mood changed, the bloating went down and I had more energy than I've had in years. Also, I have found taking vitamin d3, inositol and collagen helps even more. I would love to be able to balance my progesterone levels naturally, so I am currently researching how I can do that.

Hi Janelle. I have just watched your video and this is so relevant to me! I am 45 years old and although I have always had pms this past year it went off the scale. I thought I was losing my mind. I have always had migraines since young but as I got older they changed to occur around my period mostly. I had reduced my migraines by cleaning up my diet and going veggie and cutting back on processed foods. Anyway this year I have had more migraines, my ibs was playing up more, fatigue before my period was crazy, I have been getting insane hunger, thirst, insomnia, dizziness and intense mood swings. For almost 2 weeks before my period I just couldn't function anymore. Then at the end of August I got pain in my upper right quadrant, a constant dull ache. I had blood tests and a scan and was found to have gallstones. The stones are the size of grains of rice. I was also found to be low in iron at just 9 on the scale. The doc suggested I take iron supplements and I have now been taking liquid ferrous fumerate for almost 2 months. 5ml twice a day, I started off at 2.5ml twice a day to minimise digestive upset for my ibs. I am currently in day 22 of my cycle and waiting to see if this month is better as I am unsure if I am perimenopausal or not as well. I think my iron may have been low for some time as I was tested in 2007 after virtually having a breakdown and the doc said to me then that I was a little low at about 15 I think and so I could take iron if I wanted to but he was not worried! I was then prescribed antidepressants! I took the first one and had a huge panic attack and thought I was dying. That was in 2007. I was not vegetarian then either. Back then I didn't question the doc or ask if my levels were too low, so I never took any iron cos he said he was not worried. This time I asked the doc and I have print outs of my tests. i was so shocked to find how low I was allowed to get with no one slightly concerned about it! I have suffered with my health since 2007 with depression, anxiety, migraines continuing, ibs and even had hives for 3 years which the docs never found the cause of. Do you please have any tips for what tests I should now ask my doc for? I am unsure of my hormone levels or if I am deficient in any other nutrients. I am waiting to be referred for an endoscopy and the doc wanted me to speak to a surgeon about having my gallbladder out, though it has been hurting much less since I have started taking the iron. It started twinging last night when I got to day 21 of my cycle. Could gallstones be connected with low iron or hormone imbalance? p.s I also had very low blood pressure at my first blood test, I am hoping to check it again soon as I have another blood test to see if my levels have improved. I am staying mostly veggie but I have started eating a little fish again and I am keeping my diet clean. I can't afford any private help due to job losses cos of the covid situation. I would greatly appreciate any further help or info you could give me please. I am recording my monthly symptoms now and what I eat every day. Sorry for the long content but I had so much to explain it was hard to keep it short. Could I take agnes castus without having my hormone levels tested or would that be a bad move? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you hypermobile by any chance? Worth checking out hypermobility syndrome - the combo of low blood pressure, migraines, IBS can go together with hypermobility and hives if you have mast cell issues. Have you tried tracking your cycle with basal body temp? See where you are in your cycle when symptoms start eg those twinges on d21. Cyclical abdo symptoms would surely sound more like Endo or some gynae issue that gallbladder.

So I’ve had IBS for years and years, have dealt with depression through the years and have pms. I even grow hair on my chin. My iron has always been low as well. I have always found that whilst pregnant I don’t have any of these symptoms. I’m one of those women who love being pregnant. That being said, I recently became a surrogate mom and am 5 weeks pregnant. This required me to start taking progesterone and estrogen. I noticed within a week that not only was my IBS completely eradicated, but my mood was so much better. I actually get along with my husband and I’m more organized as a mother too. I’m not sure if I’m low progesterone and estrogen or if I’m estrogen dominant, but I’ve noticed a HUGE difference overall in my life. This lead me to your video. Thank you for educating us!

Are you by chance familiar with the research of Morleys Robbins? Morley is a mineral researcher and he says that iron deficiency anemia is often misdiagnosed and that what most people actually have is anemia of chronic disease. He says that majority of us actually have an overload of iron due to the fortification of our food. This unbound iron is what leads to issues like fibroids, pcos, gut issues, hormone imbalances, and eventually even cancer. He also teaches that low iron in the blood is really flagging a deficiency of bioavailable copper/ceruloplasmin/ferroxidase function as those are important for keeping our iron in motion. Perhaps this is something you could look into further? He has written over 80 iron toxicity posts relating this unbound iron to just about every disease and disorder. He also has many podcasts and videos available on KZbin where he discusses this very prevalent misdiagnosed issue.

I just got out of an appointment with my GYN who literally told me that she does not recommend Prometrium (micronized bio-identical progesterone) for me, and would instead recommend the Mirena IUD. I’m a 44 year old woman with fibrioids, suspected endometriosis (suspected by two doctors), painful incredibly heavy periods, spotting for an entire week before my periods (for the past TEN) years, insomnia (since I had my daughter in my 20s, and she’s now in her 20s), and severe PMDD. EVERYTHING I’ve been reading says micronized bio-identical progesterone pill behaves significantly differently than synthetic progestin in the body, and yet this GYN basically acted like I was nuts for wanting to try bio-identical progesterone. What gives?? Why is there so much mis-information/ different advice from physicians on this??
@DrJanelleSinclair

Because micronised (natural) progesterone is not patentable, so mainstream medical doctors aren't taught about it and are not comfortable prescribing it. I'm sorry for the confusion for you - it isn't easy. Trust your gut and look for a functional medicine practitioner that is familiar with natural hormones. I do see clients with PMDD, so send me an email to check if I could help you if you like. My website is www.drjanellesinclair.com

I’ve changed my diet drastically and cut out sugar, alcohol, dairy, wheat and caffeine, which seems to be helping. I’m taking magnesium and vit d as I know I’m deficient and trying to keep my iron levels up as I do tend to be on the anaemic side. Thank you for your video!! There is one thing though I’m not sure I quite understand. It might be a stupide question but: is it possible that the reverse situation causes PMS, I mean by that a too high level of progesterone? Also if an estrogen dominance might be responsible for PMS during the second phase, how come we don’t feel all those uncomfortable symptoms when the estrogen level is at its top during the first phase? It just seems in my case that the rising curve of progesterone coincides exactly with the days that are the most uncomfortable until bleeding. (Sorry i don’t know if I’m clear).

That's not a stupid question at all- in fact you are quite right. For some people it is progesterone that is the problem, as is often the case in PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder). Usually people with this problem will know very quickly after starting progesterone supplementation- it will make them feel much, much worse.

For some people it's not the hormone levels, but the brain's response to 'normal' hormone levels. In PMDD (pre menstrual dysphoric disorder) many people react badly to progesterone. Some people benefit from dramatic lifestyle changes- removing processed foods and changing for high nutrient natural foods; plus adding in important nutrients, vitamins and minerals like: magnesium, iron, calcium, b vitamins, vitamin D and omega oils. You can also try 5HTP which gives the brain what it needs to make plenty of serotonin (which can make a world of difference!). Failing that, some people have got benefit from taking oestrogen and progesterone in a constant, even amount so that it bypasses the ovaries releasing up and down cycles of those hormones.

I now have very heavy periods, mild headaches, mood swings and about 11 days before I menstruate I have horrible food cravings. An example is I will eat garlic stuffed olives with chobani key lime yogurt. Alternating bites. I use a period tracker. Hi Dr. Janelle. Was wondering if you could give me some advice about my hormones. I'm 24 and ever since I've started menstruating I've had horribly painful and heavy periods, but never any PMS symptoms. Just a few months ago it became a full blown 2 weeks of breast pain, low mood, sleep problems, anxiety, all which fluctuate from month to month. The symptoms tend to stop when I start my period. I got blood tests to check my hormones and my doctor says they look fine but she gave me 2000mg of vitex to take everyday. I just wanted your opinion on my hormones and if they are actually fine or if there is room to improve my progesterone levels. On day 3 of my cycle I tested my estrogen and got 39 pg/mL with a reference range of 19.5 - 144.2 pg/mL during the follicular phase. On day 21 I tested my progesterone and got 18.61 ng/mL with a reference range of 3.34 - 25.56 ng/mL. Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you for very clear and informative videos! You are helping so many people. I wish I would have found this information 10 years ago. For a decade I've been dealing with bad hormonal acne, anxiety and even panic attacks. Went to psychotherapy and had antibiotics for the skin during those years. One year ago my iron levels were measured as my energy levels suddenly collapsed, and ferritin level was very, very low. Now after a year of taking iron supplements, life feels very different (in a good way!) and there has not been any signs of panic attacks or bad anxiety. Skin is still a mess so I will see if balancing hormones could help. Will the iron levels also have impact on hormone levels? I feel after taking the iron supplements, there has been subtle worsening with some of my PMS symptoms.

Dear Dr. Janelle, Your videos are such exceptionally helpful eye openers! I was just diagnosed with COMT +/+ (still has to be tested though) by two doctors and watched your video on how to treat COMT. Since COMT +/+ means constantly high levels of adrenalin/noradrenalin, dopamine and cortisol even at night (which I can confirm on a daily basis, awake 3-4 hrs), I wonder if this would also have an impact on my progesterone level, since I'm constantly put under stress and pressure because of the effects of the mutation. I notice, that I'm doing better when I take 500mg GABA when I wake up in the middle of the night and can go back to sleep faster (after 1hr) than usual (3-4 hrs). I have been taking bioidentical progesterone for 12 months now, first to adjust my cycle and since 8 months on a daily basis (100mg). I noted that I also feel calmer, when I increase that dosage to 200.g daily before bedtime. I also take pregnenolone daily and I stooped taking testosterone cream. My testosterone levels have gone back from 0 to normal levels of my age group (perimenopausal) since then. I figure that should lower my anxiety and panic attacks too, right? Would you suggest I keep taking 200mg progesterone daily to counter the COMT mutation effects? Will it create an imbalance in lowering the estrogen level, i.e. the estrogen/progesterone ratio? Which cofactors are needed to support the production of estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, dopamine and adrenaline? I seem to be too low in zinc, too. I'd enjoy having a payable consultation with you in order to adjust those hormones and supplementation. How can I get in touch with you from Germany? Looking forward to your valuable advice! Best regards! ☺

Hi Dr Janelle. Can low progesterone and other hormones like estrogen and testosterone can cause anxiety and depression in postmenopause? I had ovary failure in my teens. Not taking replacement just now, did a Dutch test recently and everything is very low. Can this be causing my mental health issues?
@DrJanelleSinclair
@DrJanelleSinclair 5 жыл бұрын
Usually the 5 year or so time period around menopause is a very vulnerable time for women mentally. The decrease in hormones can lead to depression. How long has it been since you had the ovary failure? And did your mental health concerns start then, or is it a new thing? When your ovaries stop producing hormones it puts a big demand on your adrenal glands to produce hormones. So the mental health concerns now can be due to adrenal fatigue too. What did the Dutch test show with regards to your adrenals? Lots of questions. But bioidentical hormones and/or adrenal support could improve mental well-being.

If you have tried progesterone (ideally bio identical progesterone) and reacted to it with worsening symptoms (not typical allergy symptoms), you may have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). The IAPMD website is the best source of information for what you could try next if you think that may be what you are experiencing. Firstly I would ask if it is actually bioidentical natural progesterone. Lot's of doctors call the synthetic progestogen (found in oral contraceptives) the same thing. It's more my observation that conventional medical doctors often try to suppress a person's hormones with the oral contraceptives, but more holistic practitioners try to supplement or support a person's hormones. I would firstly double check what she's been prescribed

Sometimes it is the progesterone that is the problem. "Estrogen dominance" has been a phrase bandied about in natural health circles for a long time, and some practitioners diagnose it without doing any tests to confirm it. This is actually dangerous, because disturbing the hormones without good reason can really mess up the body and mind. People with Pre menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD- a severe form of PMS) often react badly to progesterone, and giving them more can make them a lot worse (this recently happened to me). Not many practitioners or doctors know much about PMDD because it takes a while for the research to filter down into practice. My advice is to be extremely careful about the information you find on youtube.

Hi Dr Janelle, can you please explain what causes menstrual migraines which occur anywhere from day 1 - 3 of the cycle and last for 3 days? Thanks :-)
@DrJanelleSinclair
@DrJanelleSinclair 5 жыл бұрын
I'd double check iron levels. I would also think of loss of electrolytes, magnesium, potassium and sodium. Maybe take an electrolyte. Magnesium deficiency is known to affect migraines, dosages in the range of 150-300mg may help. Depending on your age estrogen deficiency may be another possible cause (if you are closer to menopause and slim build).

Thanks so much for your reply @@DrJanelleSinclair . Some good things to consider. I wondered if it could be something to do with a sudden drop in progesterone?
@DrJanelleSinclair
@DrJanelleSinclair 5 жыл бұрын
@@jorobertson2535 it's theoretically possible but I would think it would resolve after 1 day. I have heard of a strategy of using omega 3 if women are sensitive to changes in hormonal levels.

@@DrJanelleSinclair oh would you mind sharing the strategy with omega 3? I actually have found that taking vitex regularly seems to mitigate the migraines too.
@DrJanelleSinclair
@DrJanelleSinclair 5 жыл бұрын
@@jorobertson2535 there's not much to explain. Just that taking high dose omega 3 can help the body not be so sensitive to hormonal changes. So you could trial taking high dose Omega 3 for 3 months and see if you observe any improvements. Maybe a dose of Omega 3 around EPA 1000-2000mg, DHA 300-800mg.

Hi Dr ! I’m 15 taking progestin-only pills for 10 days straight. (4 times a day) First day/time of taking it in the morning (2 pills) I bleed after 2 hours of consuming it and the bleeding stops within a few hours. Is this normal as I was told that I would be bleeding after a few weeks of taking all the pills and not so soon? Thank you Dr! 🙇‍♀️ I'm quite scared and lost😳

Thanks for the video Dr i wanted to know how someone can know the headaches are due to oestrogen dominant or progesterone deficiency?

Or both.... Thorough testing to be sure. But you can start with trialling natural progesterone cream and seeing if that helps

I suffer from hormonal migraines, I have been to my Dr several times but she has dismissed me and just keeps prescribing medication which isn't really helping. I know that it's hormonal related and came upon this video and it makes sense, I am wondering what I can do to help as I am in so much pain with the migraines. Some months I can spend 2-3 days in bed absolutely wiped out. It's awful.

Progesterone cream is available in a lot of countries without a prescription from a medical doctor. So if it's available in your country perhaps look into using it. Search bioidentical progesterone or natural progesterone cream.

No those thoughts aren't normal, but could be due to progesterone deficiency. I'd also double check vitamin D deficiency and zinc deficiency. See my two videos on those topics.

Hi Doctor, I have always had a regular period and have never missed a period to date. I am 30 and my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a year. Last 2 months, my doctor found that my progesterone level was low. IS this common when my period has always been so regular? I also work in a high stress environment woking minimum 65 hours a week. I also had the worst anxiety and depression 3-4 months back . Can you please advise where do i start making a change in my lfie?

@@Allana-p7g it's difficult to say whether it is estrogen dominance or not. This depends on whether you are on contraceptives that are suppressing your hormones and what the reason for not menstruating is.
