I’m confused about your “concert key” comment. It seems to imply that I need to transpose if I’m playing a B flat trumpet. Does this mean that you play a C trumpet? Also will this be a common issue for me with jazz notation? Forgive me if this is a dumb question.

If you play a Bb trumpet, yes you would need to transpose. I do not use a C trumpet - I use a Bb trumpet so I'm transposing. Same would be true for a tenor sax or clarinet. If an alto (Eb) player is checking this out they would need to transpose too. This is very common and a skillset that a transposing instrumentalist should have.
