Dear Dr. Kwon, Slide and dropping the right side is something i often think about since it is one of my dominant swing flaws. I've recently experimented with having a preshot routine where i perform my swing mostly standing on my left leg and just gently touching the ground with the right foot. From this stance it is close to impossible to slide the pelvis and drop the right shoulder. From doing this alot I've noticed an inclination to now wanting to start the swing by pushing hard with my left leg to get my upper body and arms moving in the backswing and the feeling is more like I'm landing on my right side to "catch" the motion. The result has been very positive in regards to my Slide and dropping of the upper body, but i do wonder if this way of moving is inhibiting my potential and if you would regard it as a band-aid or not?

Sounds good! In an active swing, a larger ground reaction force (GRF) acts on the lead foot at the beginning of the BS. This gives an active shift to the trail side and the trail foot can push the ground down and laterally outward well during the backswing. This trail side push will naturally bring a shift motion (re-centering) toward the target early during the backswing. Very good!

At what point during the backswing, you can no longer feel the end of the rope? I feel like the rope will lose its tension when the trail arm folds and its hard to feel the end after that

You have to maintain the tension all the way. You don't necessarily lose tenson by flexing the elbow. Elbow flexion is somewhat natural. You will have to give enough speed to the end of rope to maintain the tension at the end of the BS.

Dr. Kwon, when I try to speed up the club earlier in the DS I hit the driver really great and far (280 yd). But when I try to do the same with irons I find that low point is too close to the ball and sometimes even behind, my shots tend to fly too high losing distance (160yd 7i) and sometimes I hit behind the ball. Are there any differences in driver vs irons release at all? I've tried being narrower at the top of BS for irons but that seems to make me drag the club even more. Thank you!

As the inertial characters (mass, MOI, and center-of-mass position) vary from club to club, the timings of the upper lever motion and lower lever motion are also somewhat different. In general, irons are heavier and shorter than the woods and driver, so we see less wrist cock in the irons. Pay attention to the delivery of the clubhead to the impact point. If you lose the wrist cock too early in the irons, you will have high shots as you lose the loft.
