How much food to feed your puppy? | Veterinary Approved

Hey guys! In this video I will give you great visuals of how much your puppy needs to eat everyday. Puppies need to eat three times a day. No if's and's or but's.. THREE times a day, until they are about 4 months old. Puppies that are "Toy Breeds" may eat 4-6 small meals a day to meet their nutritional needs. Examples of Toy Breeds are chihuahuas, yorkies, Pomeranians, shitzus and miniature schnauzers and more. Large breed puppies (labradors, dobermans, boxers, Australian shepherd ect) are just fine eating 3 big meals a day. In this video I show you a chart that will tell you exactly how many cups to feed your puppy depending on their weight. If you follow that chart you won't go wrong with feeding your puppy the right amount of food. If you are ever in doubt just always feed your puppy more food than less. In this video you will meet Luke who is a 4 month old Aussie Doodle, he is 20lbs and eats about 3-4 cups of food, three times a day.

A Rottie puppy at 8 months, (small bear), will go through that bag plus 4 tall cans of wet food per day, plus several squirrels, crows, rabbits, and beavers. You can substitute 1 six year old human child or a small calf or medium sheep in place of the live animals.

Hi everyone, I've read on many pet guides as well as heard from many veterinarians that the amount of wet food should replace a portion of the recommended daily feeding amount on the dry puppy food bag rather than in addition to the dry food amounts. I have two whippets 9 weeks old and we were told by the breeder to feed him 1 cup of food TID and the last meal we offer is at 7:30 but breakfast is not until 7-8:30 am , isn’t this too log from the last meal till breakfast? We are a bit unsure what to do because we wake them up to use the bathroom but sometimes it takes a little while to get them settled back to sleep as they can be whiney and just thinking they could be hungry.

I'm just going to say how it was said to me when I asked. "grains help provide a slower burn of energy throughout the day. They also change the density of the food making it so your dog won't eat as much to fill their stomach." With that said though a goid protein diet I find goes a lot further for keeping my dogs full and managing weight. The other big differences is cost... Though buying foods at the vet is never cheap. It's one benefit is if your dog needs to be on a limited diet... Those foods are limited...

It depends on their weight. There should be a feeding guide on the bag of dog food to guide you with how much to feed in a day. If they are under 4 months of age, it is recommended to feed 3 meals a day. If over 4 months, it is recommended to feed 2 meals a day. Does this help provide clarity?

For those who don’t understand her it is 1 cup of food split up into 3 times a day she has three bowls separating those meals which means they are not getting 1 cup 3 times that is way to much food. She is measuring by pounds and the second is 2 cups for all day split up and so on

Great video! Not so great food. There are a multitude of better dog foods available. Fresh raw, gently cooked, raw dehydrated are a few examples. Do your research people! Don’t just go to the store and buy a food like the example in this video.

My 8 pound maltese X eats one cup of food a day. If you tried to feed a 3 pound maltese all that food, it would explode. The feeding guide might say to feed a certain amount but the reality is that your dog is an individual and if it doesn’t want to stuff its face until it explodes, don’t force it

What do u recommend doing regarding treats?! I know one option is using the kibble they will eat for lets say lunch so as to not go over caloric intake. But if someone were to use pieces of chicken or another high value treat how exactly would someone put that in to account in daily caloric intake for 8 week corgi for example which is what im getting soon

I put a small amount of wet food in the microwave for a few seconds then add a spoonful of water (test the temperature with a clean finger). It then can be mashed up really easily and make a tasty, fragrant sauce for the kibble for a picky dog. I do this as more wet food would make my dog have loose stools but dry kibble is too boring and results in weight loss.

Just be careful with this. That is no where near a complete diet. Dogs and puppies especially end up at the vet from nutrient deficiencies because people do a homecooked diet. If you want to do this, be sure to talk to a vet nutritionist to ensure a complete diet.

Hi there! Whenever you decide to transition foods, you will want to slowly incorporate the new food over 1 week to avoid digestive upset. I always recommend on days 1 and 2, offer 75% the current food mixed with 25% the new food. For days 3 and 4, offer 50% current food mixed with 50% new food. On days 5 and 6, offer 75% new food and 25% current food. And finally, on day 7, you can offer 100% new food and 0% current food. Does this help?

I had a question for you, we have two rescue puppies. They are pitbull puppies. Their mother died when they were three weeks old and we received them at six weeks when we adopted them. They said they had deworm them, but unfortunately, we figured out they have not. They still have worms. Hey! Deworm them with whatever the vet says and just feed them like regular puppies (3x a day a good amount) for growing pups! ;) i hope this helped. The dewormer will get rid of worms and recheck their poop with your vet in 4 weeks
