Crazy how successful 5 was (and is) because of how much of a step back in the series it is outside of it's graphics, detail, polish, and to a degree, online. It lacks the AI and physics of 4 and the activities and RPG elements of SA. I think it just released at a time where the internet and social media was really starting to blow up. I don't think it was so successful because it's such a magnificent game - I think it was because it was the newest GTA and nobody else was or is doing it like GTA. I think SA would have been so much more successful and IV would have been about as successful if they released in 2013.
