I pray that you have a full recovery, same thing happened to me, I'm 44 and mine started about 7yrs ago out the blue, I broke my nose, my jaw.. but the worst part is I lost my son cause it was only me and him living and I was having a seizure one night and he said I was choking him and of course the government stepped in and took him, which of course I prefer that than having him home and hurting him.....but it's hard and I miss my baby alot

Thank you for all you do and the research all of you are involved in. If you haven’t discussed it or found out already can you find out and explain why small seizures cause such an emotional imbalance afterwards? The seizure itself is scary but not I’m struggling more with how to stay calm after it’s gone when my emotions feel like I have no control almost worse than a panic attack. I am so thankful for people out there like you. Words can’t describe how much of a difference you make. It’s hard enough but people like you are our light in this dark tunnel helping us.

i have taken many seizure medications without success and my doctor has told me that epileptic surgery is only successful in a very very small percentage of patients. i have been forced to live with super painful and disabling grand mal seizures for 30 years, about 2-3/month. by the time i finally get over having a seizure i have another. a lot of times they result in injuries but not every time. trying to go to the er for the pain or inability to walk/move is pointless, most times they give me a 800mg ibuprofen (like trying to knock down a building by throwing a paper wad at it) and tell me to go home. this is not something i would wish on ANYONE WHATSOEVER (not my worst enemy or even satan himself) and i hope/pray NOONE EVER EVER HAS TO GO THROUGH THIS!!!!!!

He has just come out of hospital after six weeks and was on a medically managed Ketogenic diet. It didn't work!! Can you throw any light on why it doesn't work for some? His meds have all been changed up with this new diagnosis and he has been seizure free for nearly a week. You name the seizure type and he was having them. I'm watching you from Ireland.

my father is 82yrs old had seizure 2 days ago. He’s diabetic on insulin/ has severe diabetic neuropathy/ mild hypertension / seizures(was free of seizures for 10yrs). Had 1st seizure 13yrs ago n put on Levipil. He was seizure free for 10+yrs atleast. He was admitted to the hospital as he’d Seizures , unconscious n bit his tongue. the hospital said he’d severe pneumonia & that probably triggered seizure. Is that possible? Or missing medicine caused that? What questions should I ask the doctor? Like what kind of seizure is this? And what’s the best treatment option? What to avoid/what precautions should he take? I have JME and diet and sleep is VERY important. I just found out i have a gene variation that causes me to be sensitive to glutamates. I increased salts and decrease my glutamates by limiting high glutamate foods like aged cheese and processed foods. You can't avoid glutamates altogether, but you can lower your intake of particularly high foods. Due to my particular gene i also have to add lots of salt to my diet, but always check with your dr before trying that. Keppra did not help me tho i cant remember if it was ineffective or had bad side effects. My dr has me on a very low dose of clobazam. Appearantly JME gets easier to treat as you age tho doesnt go away completely. My pharmacy sends my meds in dose paks to help me be diligent in taking my doses on time. I also found GABA related medications can aggravate my seizures. This includes gabapentin and magnolia bark. If your son is on a GABA med you should talk to your dr about the possibility it could be triggering seizures and consider changing meds. I hope these tips help! My 20s were rough but now im 43 and havent had a seizure in over a year. Keep trying! It can get better i promise!

Hi Dr , I also have epilepsy & I have been through two temporal lobectomies & I also been through 4 vagel nurve stimulator surgeries the VNS had to be shut down because the left side of my face would swell up my left eye would swell shut, my left ear would ring it got to the point I couldn't handle it no more. I asked to have it shut down. I'm 51 years old & my seizures got so bad I had a seizure at work on February 4 of this year I had a small stroke prior to going into the heavy seizure the Dr had to put me into a coma for about 4 days because the seizure was so strong I have been on every medicine on the market the Dr I'm seeing now started me on the newest med clobazam 10 mg & kept me on lamictal 150 mg my wife , mother & my boss had to use Nayzilam nasal spray on me multiple times ever sense the bad one in February i get the Oras quite often lately before the seizure .I lived with epilepsy sense 3 months old is there any other surgeries to bring the seizures to a stop . Thank you for your help and time . Dave .P

Hi doctor Orman. I have generalized absent seizures. I take my meds on time. I take Keppra valproare 7.5ml. I get 8 hours of sleep. Does looking at my phone or a computer trigger my seizures? Does my Keppra cause me to violent? I was told I get violent when I have a seizure. My seizures very. I will have seizure one day then then I will be able to go a few days without having one. I had epilepsy surgery and I have a Vegal nerve stimulator it didn't help me stop my seizures. Do you think me taking vitamins cbd oil will help? Magnesium deficiency cause me to have a seizure? am watching from Fayetteville N.C.

My name is Rachel in Arizona. I have temporal lobe epilepsy, and have focal seizures, usually. I have had multiple kinds of seizures for 30+ years, having taken many medications, as well. I haven't been told that I am drug resistant, but I consider myself to be that. Recently, my neurologist recommended DBS and RNS. I have tried to learn about these treatments but have found most sources to be repetitive and uninformative. My Dr didn't give me much information to refer to. Please direct me. Thank you. I appreciate your feedback.

VNS has been done on me, but it doesn't TOTALLY control the seizures. When I have a seizure it is very short. Doesn't even last more than one minute. Usually around 10 to 15 seconds only. I still have to take medications: Briviact and Vimpat. It has caused vocal cord paraylaze. (spelling?) I can still talk just fine, so it is not bad. Just have to watch closely for years to see if I will need to end up having surgery on my vocal cords.

Hello Doctor. My Nephew is 4 years of age and he started a gelastic seizure last month. After MRI and EEG, we found that he is having tuberous sclerosis. In a day about 10-12 times seizure is coming and it's like 2-5 seconds. After medication of around 15-20 days, the length of seizure is decreased but the frequency in a day is not decreasing. Can you please help and advise anything?

Does stress cause or trigger an epilyptic seizure? I have had seizures when I was 2, and I didn't know if it was Rasmussen epilepsy or if it was encephalitis. Through the grace of God i pulled thru. After I had two children, I was inbed was waking up, and my daughter was on her phone. I don't know if that had anything to do with the seizures that occurred. But then, it happened again when I was under stress and there were flashing lights around. I notice that has been the case for the past few seizures. Luckily, i have been on medicines, and they have worked. But my question is, does stress trigger or cause seizures??? Do you think surgery would be of help? My husband isn't a positive figure in my life right now. I needed him to be willing to be here for me, and he wasn't willing to do that. He wanted to go help his dad and his mom and sister with their health problems. So i need to know how to get along by myself.

Your enthusiasm for improving the quality of life for those with epilepsy, including PNES, is inspiring Doctor. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico where we have a teaching hospital at the University of New Mexico. And their neurology department is terrible, in all honesty. They never provided the results of my EEG results to my neurologist following a suspected hemiplegic migraine which included a seizure. The EEG was in 2022!! I am planning to make an appointment with you as you are in my insurance network and I am absolutely thrilled to see a medical professional so enthusiastic in helping his patients. Your help can potentially change my life and getting to Detroit to consult with you will be worth every penny.
