Some quick thoughts:- A) you have a fair idea of the drone tx erip... Does your computed range tie in with that & your rssi. B) are you estimating the Doppler on the drone tx & correlating that with with your computed flight path. C) is there a reason that you have not simply decoded the drone telemetry (not the rid but the flight telemetry that is unencrypted on many drones). This would instantly tell you if you were looking at a drone... Its location, its speed, its height & the pilots location.. there are a couple of good KZbin videos on hacking drone flight telemetry... And if the crap antennas on the controller can pick up the telemetry out to 4 miles then if you get yourself into a clear/high position with a good high gain Yagi antenna (say 16dB gain) then you should be able to "sniff & decode" them out to 20 miles.
