I just flew from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York to Orlando two days ago, and the entire flight path took us over New Jersey. During that part of the journey, I couldn’t help but think about drones. The plane was still at a low altitude, and I have to admit that I was worried about the possibility of hitting one of them or having a drone get caught in the plane's turbines. We still don't have clarity on the situation regarding drones in that area.

Been a pilot since I was 17 and the majority, not all but certainly the majority of videos shown here on Fox, CNN, ABC or on Facebook of so called "drones" are small single engine GA aircraft or airliners. Then you have a lady on CNN saying "if you don't see an airplane on this iPhone radar app then it's a drone" not how that works. Not all small aircraft have transponders for radar tracking and it's not legally required outside class C or above airspace. So 99% of the airspace it's not required. You're not going to see a lot of general aviation aircraft on some stinky app. Again not how that works. This whole thing I personally think has been blown out of proportion by non aviation people that don't know the first thing about flying, aircraft, airspaces, federal aviation regulations etc. it needs to stop before someone takes shots at night while I'm flying my single engine airplane and they think "oh it's not on the app must be a drone, let's take it down"

Actually, our recent inflation and its causes mainly preceded the Biden administration (COVID, unfunded tax rebate, etc.). And, it's a worldwide problem, not a US problem. We actually have a better situation as to inflation than any of our allies. And, 2.5% (the current rate) is not a lot of inflation--arguably it's too little. If Mr.Trump actually enacts the tariffs he's discussed then we're likely to see REAL inflation of the sort we had back in the 80s. Let's nope he gets good economic advice and listens to it! All that said, I feel your pain. I'm a middle-class retiree who, because of illnesses, was not able to put away all that I now need. If I'm lucky I'll be dead before I run out of cash.

How come an external unidentified object comes inside the country without being interfered by Radar System? Why didn't the radar technologies interfere and intercept it before it comes inside? Where is the money going for defense?

radar won't pick up small objects. Maybe if the drones have the size of a SUV. These drones fly day and night with lights in accordance with US air control regulation. I am pretty sure, the government knows whose drones they are. They are their own and that is why they don't shoot them down.

@chelok7805 actually, you gotcha know that even Drones can be detected and intercepted by radar technology. Radar systems work by emitting short pulses of signal (Radio Frequency waves). If there is an object in the way of the signal, the echoes or reflections of the signal are captured by the radar antenna and amplified to identify the nature of the object. Radars continuously scan the sky looking for reflections and changes to detect movement and size. Reflected signals can be compared to a database for object characterization. High-resolution radars are specifically designed for drone detection and tracking. Reflected signals are analyzed and compared to a database for drone characterization. The stored signatures can also be used to eliminate objects that are not drone-like much like how radars are used to detect birds. This signal processing greatly improves detection performance and allows for fewer false positives. Advanced technologies like Machine Learning and AI, can further improve radar detection of drones and decrease the number of false positives. Radar can also provide real-time tracking by providing the GPS location of the drone detected. The GPS location is calculated based on the GPS location of radar sensor, and distance and angle at which object is detected from the radar sensor.

@@kingdavidlarson7166 yes, KZbin uses artificial intelligence to review all comments, deleting any it doesn't like and sorting them. Specific words can't be said. This was especially noticeable during the pandemic when any comment questioning the vaccines was almost immediately removed

The FAA recently passed a law stating that anyone with a drone greater than 250 grams must have a 'Remote ID Broadcast' attached to it. This will report specific information to authorities like the location of the drone and its drone operator. A UAS reported to the federal FBI officials initiates a correlation query with the FAA, data centers, and law officials. They determine the owner info and past drone usage. So, do these large drones have the required 'Remote ID Broadcasts' - If not, that is legal justification to shoot them down. I think it means no worries. The GOV is behind this operation.

No reason not to do so. Why not? As a pilot our minimums over non populated areas is 500ft, 1000ft over ppl/towns. Drones are "supposed" to stay 400ft or below. I don't really trust that they do and literally always worry about smacking one at 200mph. However, what's the issue with ppl flying them at night? Same as day as long as they follow the rules
