I had a roofer come out to inspect an area near my chimney / chase. He looked at the whole roof and said it needed to be replaced due to storm and hail damage. I called my insurance company who sent out an adjuster. The adjuster only used a drone to take pictures of the roof and my insurance agent said the roof was fine according to the adjusters findings. Total opposite of the previous poster. Seems like home owners can't win either way.

Thanks for the comments. Like anything, drones are a tool and, when used properly, can help inspect a roof. I think some people who fly drones for this purpose do not understand how to properly use the drone. It needs to be flown at the right time of day and with the proper settings. If people do not do this, it can produce false information, like any other tool. I wonder what training each pilot had for both of the cases you all have mentioned. It's a good tool in the hands of a properly trained pilot. :)

Summary: If an insurance company, for instance, is going to take drone shots of a roof then use those shots as a way to bully their customer into replacing it, then leave me out! This is soooo ironic that you would post these videos right now. For, I just got an email from our insurance company saying our roof needs to be repaired or they are dropping us. They flew a drone over our house then emailed us a really crappy photo claiming that the roof was damaged. So... I got a roofer up on top of my house to fully inspect it: nothing whatsoever wrong with my roof! Apparently insurance companies are scrambling to save costs and therefore are threatening to drop customers. NOW I have to fight this battle with my insurance company to prove that my roof is FINE! All because they refuse to send an insurance agent out to physically inspect my roof and instead are relying solely on drones. And now I have this battle on my hands!! Not that this is directly the drone pilot's fault. Nevertheless, said pilot is now an accomplice in this "scheme."

I have not heard this from anyone else before, and I am sorry to see you are going through this. It sounds like a very frustrating situation. Thankfully, the people I have flown for have always been pleased that their claims are processed faster or that the home inspection aids in closing the sale of their house. I hope there is a positive resolution to the situation for you!
