At the time, Stalin, Kruschev and Zhukov all openly acknowledged the vital role of lend-lease and the Arctic Convoys. Nowadays when I debate Russians online they fall over themselves to claim that the help was inconsequential. Nor will they admit that the RN blockade of German ports, and allied strategic bombing, or the allied campaigns in N Africa, Italy and the Western Front did anything to help them. And heaven forbid that you remind them they teamed up with Hitler to dismember Poland. Recently one Moscow-based historian assured me that Russia never invaded Poland, because it was always Russian land and Poland was never a legitimate state. Russia was just driving out usurpers. He was genuinely bemused that the Baltics had voted to leave the Federation "after all we did for them". This level of revisionist and supremacist neo-imperialism is pretty scary, so be honest.

It is. They call it, The great patriotic war. They teach that they won WWII with very little help from the US and its allies. I wonder how many of them know that poutin is one of the wealthiest people in the world or how he acquired his wealth.
@johnluiten368615 күн бұрын
So the slur goes. Now I ask you, what does he do with all that wealth. Does he hold lavish parties? Buy yachts? He’s 70+ yo and his entire life has been devoted to running the country. Like him or not, robbing the people seems not to be his main desire in life. And if one wants to decry corruption in political figures, look no further than Ukraine, or for that matter the USA.
@namastezen330015 күн бұрын
@johnluiten3686 I'm glad that you have identified the source of poutin's wealth. Now that you admit the source of his wealth and the extent of it, I will refute the inaccuracies of your reply. Although it is registered to a post Yeltsin regime business man, the 460 foot super yacht Scheherazade is reputedly owned by poutin. poutin has been in charge of rossiya since 1999 when he was 47 years old, a far cry from "his entire life." Of course, when you fleece an entire nation over decades, gathering more wealth is less a priority than staying in power and holding on to it. In spite of your innuendo, Zelenskyy is a comedian, actor and producer; a self made man elected in a free and fair election with 70% of the vote. Unlike poutin, both Zelenskyy and US candidates subject themselves to free and fair elections and can be replaced by honest challengers, none of which are the wealthiest people in the world. I feel bad that you are so complacent about the suffering that poutin's ego centricity has caused, both in Ukraine and Syria, but also at home (where the median income of India is higher than the median income of rossiya.) If poutin had not invaded Ukraine, Georgia and Chechnya it would be easier to make his korroptsiya a concern only for rossiya.

@aldz2865 are you Belarussian? Cos you don't seem to know what happened. It would have taken a while for the concentration of russian troops to build up in Belarus, just as they were gathering for weeks on the other border. - They needed Lucashenko's permission, he gave it. Then he supplied them and let them invade from Belarus, he let them station artillery in Belarus so they could attack over the border and not get retaliated against etc. - You can say you're against it all you want, but actions speak louder than words here, and your leader's actions were all to help Russia against Ukraine.

Oil prices $44 this year
@johnluiten368615 күн бұрын
Pay attention dummy. This price is easily ascertained. As of the 24th or January, 2025, both Russian and American crude oil was selling for $75 give or take a penny or two. Russia has a direct pipeline to China for its crude and gas and contracts to sell. The embargo hurts only Europe.

These are tough. I always want to feel sorry for the innocent people caught in the middle, even Russians who were forced into this level of danger by their own government, and are too weak-minded and cowardly to do anything about it, yet when I hear these people speak for themselves, my sympathy mostly evaporates. I don't care if zombies are caught in the middle. I used to live in Russia and probably view these differently. Notice one thing, which likely goes unnoticed. When Russians don't want to say anything negative, mostly out of fear, they always begin to refer to an unknown and unspecified "they" who does and says everything. "They told us," "They promised us."
