I ordered the Power 500. I can’t wait to put it to work. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it so far. Thanks for the video!

I just... this morning! (my time, South Australia)... purchased the DJI Power 1000. Looking forward to it arriving. Great price and free shipping. So, I'm really happy to see this review! Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) were ok, not great. Li-Ion are better, but can still tend to go boom, occasionally - and catch fire (think "hover-boards", e-scooters/bikes, and some EVs). LFP is the SAME as LiFePO4. Lithium (Li) Iron (Fe) Phosphate (PO4). Far safer and longer lasting.

I watched your video and then I watched David McLuckies video were he disassembles the 1000 European version and wow,it's amazing the quality that is in this product, I was wondering if you had watched his video and what you think about the quality inside the plastic box? Love your videos, keep them coming.

Thanks Rick , You always have tons of great information when review products. Could you plug in just your home refrigerator if the power went out.Thank you.

Yes you can! The smaller unit might struggle a bit with a larger refrigerator but the Power 1000 can handle it no problem. Check the electrical plate on the fridge to see what type of power (Amps) is needs and you'll know which of these you need. I actually used the Power 1000 during a power outage a few weeks back to keep the fridge and my coffee maker going during the storm. Pretty sweet!

Very cool! My first worry about sending that much power to the batteries is heat. Batteries get hot from being drained in the drone, then throwing them on the fastcharger will heat them even more.
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 ай бұрын
The key thing with the PD and SDC charging is that it regulates how the charge is delivered and the batteries don't really heat up that much at all. If you're flying in really hot weather you should avoid charging the cells. I've done a lot of testing and it seems to do a great job of charging them quickly.

i love his reviews and i have purchased couple of items after seeing him explaining the features.. but i have only one complaint.. a good reviewer should also show products that are popular but not good, to save people from wasting money.. all Rick reviews are perfect products..

Thanks for the post and the kind word on my reviews. I understand your point about also reviewing products that aren't that great and some channels only focus on beating up these clunkers. I decided to take a different approach when I started the channel and only products that make it through testing and I'd use myself and recommend end up on the channel to try and help folks find the best of the best. I can promise you that we have a TON of gear sent to us every month that really needs work and we'll send it back to the manufacturer with notes on what they need to fix with the gear. This way we're helping folks find good tech and helping companies improve their products. I hope that helps explain it a little. Rick

@@Dronevalley thanks for your reply.... you know that what you just explainned here makes sensce, that means that you no only praising products, you are doing your test, but also will be good, to make shorts videos, of those products you are not giving a full review because they lack quality or they don't offer what they show.. as you should know there are a bunch of people taking bad products and giving good reviews and making viewers purchase bad products.... thanks for your response, i watch all your videos, and hope some day we get together here in Jersey and fly a bit.. i have couple of small drones.. love the hobby. Be blessed.

Justin, thanks for the post and I'll take that as a compliment. The one thing I do differently than those folks is really test and study the gear I'm discussing. I spend hours putting the tech through it's paces so I can explain the good and bad in these clips to help you make an informed decision and that's a good thing.

The big question are they (EMP) Electromagnetic Pulse resistant. If not you have to buy a big EMP bag to keep it in?
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the post and they aren't EMP resistant and I'm not sure that any of the Power Stations on the market today for consumers include this type of protection. I'll dig a little and see what I can find.

Throw it in the trash! No, seriously…. Get a steel garbage can with steel lid and make yourself an EXCELLENT “Faraday Cage” device. The can can be modified very easily to ensure as much electrical conductivity occurs, protecting the contents from EMP/CME events. You can accomplish this by using metallic copper tape (with conductive adhesive!) to seal all seams, crushable copper mesh gasket material for the lip of the can to ensure a good electrical seal where the lid contacts the “lip” edge of the can. When complete, simply line the bottom and inner walls of the can with a non-conductive insulation material . I used a triple layer of very thick corrugated cardboard to line the floor of the can, attaching the cardboard layers to each other and securing the assembly to the base/floor of the can with silicone RTV adhesive. I used a double layer of the same corrugated cardboard to line the interior walls of the can. I used a double layer on the inside of the lid, using care not to interfere with the electrical connection between the kid and can. There must be NO GAPS of any size !
@PowderMill
@PowderMill 5 ай бұрын
I tested many variations of the “Faraday Can”, using the same setup to test each one. I was very surprised at how critical it is to ensure no gaps of any size. I placed my (portable) Agilent spectrum analyzer inside, sweeping 10kHz through 12GHz with a short omnidirectional antenna. I kept the SA in its travel case with antenna inside, to ensure no contact with the inside surface of the can. I then enabled logging on the SA and sealed it inside. Running an RF source with both an omnidirectional antenna and yagi directional antenna aimed at the can from 10 feet away provided the energy source to simulate an EMP/CME event. Spectrum generated = many steps from 1MHz through 5.9GHz at powers of 100 milliwatts through 100Watts. Way cheaper than a commercially sourced product! Can with lid = $60 +/- Copper tape (1/2” / 1” / 3”) = $40 (enough for several cans) Conductive crushable gasket material = 55 (enough for several cans) Corrugated Cardboard = $Free Spectrum Analyzer = $24,000 2-way radio gear & power amps & signal generation test gear = $18-20,000 😁

I would guess SDC is software defined charger.
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 ай бұрын
I was heading in that direction too since it's a term that's involved in a lot of EV discussions, but I made the joke to cover the fact that DJI doesn't actually define it anywhere. If it was a common acronym like "AC" or "QC" we would all know what it meant, but SDC is still new to most consumers and it would have been nice to know for sure how they defined it. Either way, the SDC is a custom Bi-directional port on both Power Stations that is smart, with a communications channel between the internal BMS and the device being connected. It's the "cherry on top" of an otherwise amazing Power Station. I'll be diving in deeper in another clip very soon on this port. Thanks for the post!

All these "reviews" fail to address is solar charging. You'll need an external DJI MPPT charger that only accepts XT60 connections.
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the post and if you check you'll find that less that 25% of Power Station users actually charge with a solar panel and most charge at home and take it with them. I think it was a smart move by DJI to make this an external option as it makes the units lighter and more flexible as this type of charging evolves. If you want to charge with a solar panel, you can add the MPPT module and if things change over the years you can add whatever module you need to use the new tech. I'm hoping DJI releases a module that connects to an EV charging station to quick charge their Power Stations.

@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 ай бұрын
Thank for the post but right now they're on sale for $380 for the Power 500 and $700 for the Power 1000. If you compare them to other Power Stations from Anker, Jackery or EcoFlow, you'll find that they are more reasonable and they include features these other products don't offer. They are also using the latest battery tech, which provides over 10 years of charge cycles as well as a 5-year warranty. I think DJI has a very strong offering with both of these if you're in the market for a portable power solution.
