Using the ND Filters gives the Hyperlapse a Deep, Dark & Rich Look that's more focused on the streeks/ long exposure! Here are my settings for all the ND filters: 1. ND16 ISO1600. 2sec shutter. 2. ND8 ISO1600. 1Sec shutter. 3. ND32 ISO1600. 3Sec Shutter. Happy Flying 😃

Hi Man! You can reach the same result without the filter and with a better image quality. You just have to turn down the ISO to compensate. So probably without ND filter you are good with ISO 400. Reducing the ISO will give you less noise.
@xavier_arthur3 жыл бұрын
I've tried it without the filters and it does look good too but everything is bright and not as dark, rich & dramatic. Try both and compare for yourself. However if you're using the raw files, don't use higher than ND4. Thanks for sharing.

Good video, great channel. A couple of suggestions from a hyperlapse expert: 1) just bring down ISO, don't use the filters. You are increasing graininess of your images for now reason. 2) apply stabilization to your hyperlapse, it's much smoother and more visually pleasing. You are welcome. :-)

Exactly.

The point of using the nd filters is to increase the shutter speed to show light trails, with the regards to high ISO, it’s possible to easily denoise it in post.

You can bring down your iso and will definitely look cleaner if that's what you're going for. I'm looking to darken highlights and richen the yellow lights to gold and bring out the lights More. It's a more dramatic look not a clean look. This is art not camera metrics buddy. Happy Flying 😎

You provide a lot of useful information in this 20 minute video, including various settings to adjust for different filters, etc. You're also a great teacher and I hope you continue to keep it up, because you're engaging, detailed, and well spoken. I would like to make a suggestion to you as a filmmaker that could take your videos to the _next level_ in terms of being a resource for people to reference and share. At various points, including at 17:47, you say, _"if you guys want to know how to [something you've found important enough to mention a watcher would want to know]"_..._"hit me up in the comments."_ I would suggest that for anything you find that important or helpful to mention, include it in your video notes. If it's a video you've already created, just link to it. If it's something you haven't created but is helpful (like the settings mentioned above), instead of saying to hit you up in the comments, say, "I'll list them in the video notes below." I see that for this example you actually pinned it as a comment at the top, which is probably just as useful. Thanks!

Very nice planning. The only thing I don't understand is raising up the ISO so high and using a strong ND filter. The length of the exposure is going to give you the streaked headlights so 2 seconds, 3 seconds or whatever. You can get there the same way using ISO 100 and a less strong ND filter. I found personally I get about 1/2 second exposures at ISO 100 without really blowing out highlights at night so to get to 2 seconds you'd need a 2 stop ND filter. Something not discussed but perhaps to keep it simple are weather conditions, most notably wind can really make using these long exposures impossible. In a light wind I find 1/5 sec is about what I can get away with but on a really still night you can push to 2 seconds sometimes.
