The only logs kept in False Creek would have been BC Douglas Fir. The mill closed around 1975. After that, they imported staves and heads from Denmark. You're right about the assembly plant.

I love to see these old films about coopering it just goes to show how coopering has changed over the years mechanically. I'm a third generation cooper here in bonnie Scotland for the last 26 years and I teach apprentice coopers for a 4 year apprenticship using the methods of old, all by hand before they Finnish there last year in the machine shop. thanks for sharing this film 😊

Thanks again for another great post. Were oak logs also stored in False Creek and subsequently processed by the mill as well? When was the log mill demolished? I know the assembly plant was shut down in 1981 when its land was expropriated for BC Place/Expo. Thanks.
