This story is Episode 6 in "The Misfits" series. If you'd like to catch up on all the episodes, you can check out that playlist here: kzbin.info/aero/PLWl-Jc_I2wPAsngY7MCID9sS_98Y2siT5 This installment makes it official: Sebastian Pollack (aka Transom), Carolina Dreeson, and Maícon (the prime) will henceforth be considered regular characters in the Misfits series. So "the Crew" has been expanded beyond Burch and the rest of the gang aboard the Yankee-Chaos. And, in case you missed them this week, Burch and the rest of the crew will be back next week for Episode 7. I hope to see you then!

These just keep getting better. I listen to these initially in a random order, and now as they come out. My wife pointed out that Clem was the junkyard escapee. I had totally forgotten what that guys name was. I almost need a spreadsheet or flowchart to connect all the stories, but I think that would ruin some of the magic of bumbling through like I have. Keep up the good work, man.

Thanks, greyghost! Eventually, I am going to have to get the spreadsheet going. Maybe I can get GPT to build me a model! Oh, man, I'd be afraid to even ask, because then it might start writing spinoffs! Aaaah!

Well, I have to say you write better combat veteran characters than most writers. It's refreshing not to have to egnore a badly writen character to enjoy a story. You have no idea how many times I have read/heard another writing's SF character do something a boot wouldnt do. It breaks the emersion when someone doesn't fit into the role. You seem to do a lot of reaserch into your characters' development. Great work looking forward to the next one.

Thanks, SC. Glad to hear it. If/when I get characters right, I think it's mostly about taking each character seriously--respecting their perspective. That's the goal anyway.

@@RoweLit I think Transom has become one of my favourites. Probably due to the fact you have humanised the SF guy. So many people forget that soldiers are people too. No matter how skilled and untouchable they are. At the end of the day, they have people they care about just like anyone else.
@RoweLit

He's one of my favorites too, SC. He's both fun to write and far more complex than meets the eye. It's also I case where I'm in a similar position to the reader at this point, because I'm in the dark about how his story will develop/end. I do expect he'll surprise me, probably often and a lot.

Absolutely love there is real, often poignant dialog that doesn’t rely on gratuitous cursing, F bombs or sex. Very few authors handle language as you do. How the different characters express themselves gives us an unusual sense of that character in the story.

Unfortunately, I don't have audiobook versions for my novels yet. I will, though, for my forthcoming novel. And, of course, the collections will all have audio versions, which all originate here.

Living in a hurricane prone area, this one resonated with me. The only thing that I feel you didn’t convey strongly enough was the constant roar of the wind. At those speeds it would have made hearing others talking (more like yelling) very difficult ( just for future reference). Great story though, especially the breakdown after the storm passed! @@RoweLit Pleased it didn't come across as criticism of the work, which is much appreciated. I had thought it reminded me of (most?) book readings I've attended and only twigged afterwards that it was just so. Heck, even many who start out as performers read in this style (Mike Harding springs to mind)

Thanks, MJ! I am always wondering about how much to explain or recap installment to installment, but I usually rely on the fact that people are much better at picking up an adventure in the middle than writers give them credit for. After all, if I can come into a movie halfway and figure it out and still enjoy it, the audience can too.

Yes, I think you balance it well. I actually picked up Misfits here, listened to the end then went back to the beginning. It was a total Star Wars order of 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, etc. I'm happy to have had a different experience. (This is, of course, with random other tales littered throughout the journey.) @@RoweLit
