@@markentwistle9970 it feels like the other way round for me. Closed back just has far more versatility and the low end you sacrifice alongside the sound leak from open backs is just not really worth it unless if you live alone or can actually afford to spend time sitting in a silent room listening to music. The pricing a good pair of open backs is not friendly for budget listeners.

It's all preference. I bounce back and fourth between open and closed back. For me though I enjoy the sound stage, imaging and details that open back headphones put out. I need to hear everything when I play. Bass isn't a priority for me .

@@kalanipickard3861 I don’t really enjoy bass all that much but on pair of budget open backs like the Phillips shp9500 the low end is non existent and it feels pretty empty (at least on certain tracks). EXTREMELY good open back audio quality, both exceptional for gaming and music, really good build quality, plug and play (no bs software), two types of ear cushions which are both phenomenal for comfort and sound, really good comfort (atleast for me), and an exceptional microphone. It also comes with extra cables and a carrying case. It is just really worth $170 imho. Drop also has really good shipping and customer support. Just one touch about build quality. I've had the PC37x for a longggg time, and just got the 38x. I have never had QC issues, and I know that the plastic might feel cheap, but it is actually pretty strong and durable. I know the 37x has the same build on the top band, and the bracket doesn't pop out, and I've had the headset for about 2 years. I truly think that you might just have a defective product, because both my 37x which I've had for 2 years, and 38x doesn't do that. I really think that this headphone review mostly subjective, and I mostly respect that. The only thing about this headset for me, is that I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is in a loud or noisy environment, that's it. I also really do feel bad for you that you probably got a defective copy (talking about the headband piece popping out).

It is the best headset I've ever owned. I pair it with my Sennheiser GSX1000 for gaming audio, for music I simply use my Focusrite 212. I prefer the ear cushions that came installed with it rather than the other ones as it has more openness to them. I use them for my Quest 2 for VR gaming and the extra cable that comes works perfectly for the Quest 2.

These are definitely some of the best sounding headphones you can get for the price, I’ve been absolutely stoked with the sound quality which is what really matters, and build quality seems to be on par with other headphones (most people don’t review headphones so they won’t be twisting and flexing them to test it’s limits, so that’s a nonissue for 99% of people) literally the only issue I’ve had is with that pressure point under your ear mentioned at 3:30 due to the long ear cups, which only bothers me after hours of use. So I would definitely highly recommend these headphones!

Praising the M50X reassured me, that while I love his reviews and honesty, I myself am better off watching audio related stuff somewhere else. The M50x to me is a plain unrealistic and boomy experience with too extended highs. The PC38x outperforms it in music AND gaming. I can understand his criticism about it being plastic all over, but I don‘t think the excessive bending is anything to go by. It‘s the same design since the Game One and many users still use that and like the reliability and build quality over the years. That‘s saying more to me about Sennheisers quality than pulling the headset apart.

Oh and very jarring too: He compares PC38x and HD58x and says they sound the same / similar. But what he doesnt mention is that the pc38x has way way better imaging and soundstage, which is imortant for gaming, and also is bad on the M50x for example.

As you might have caught from the video, I never claim to and never want to be an audiophile. Yes I love the m50 and also prefer more highs, again this is a gamer review and I am a gamer. You say it feels flimsy because it's plastic, and then demonstrate by stretching the headset in a way that no normal person would *ever* do just to prove a point. Nobody is going to stretch their $160 headset so the cups are almost 90° from each other, and even then, the headset didn't even break, the rail just popped out. Also, what's the purpose of a headset? To produce audio and allow the user to communicate clearly. Does this headset do both of those things to a stellar level? Yes, far better than similarly priced headsets.
@nasty73
@nasty73 3 жыл бұрын
I have never disagreed this much with a review .... I've had this headset for a month now and tried to stretch it out and it just didn't break at all .... The plastic is solid and the sound is way better than any gaming headphones on the market ... Every others reviewers agree with that! An interesting review, I love Open Back because I like being able to hear around me. Your points are right on though, there are many times where my kid or Wife can hear my stuff out of my headset (Sennheiser 599SE Openbacks) though I have found that in games like COD or something I don't notice the outside noise. I'm buying a pair of Arctis 7 to try out and I'm worried that Closed Backs going to be rough to adjust to. Thank you for your thoughts on this one as I have looked at getting it myself, cheers.

The mic quality alone worths the "cheap" built. For me it was on purpose and it's surely the lightest on the table. And again the MIC quality is bananas. KZbinrs tend to forget this part and focusing heavily on the sound. Which is normal. But amazing mic, lightweight, cool design (I don't mind the yellow), terrific sound (i like an extra little deep sound), and again the MIC alone + sound quality.

Not sure how loud it is at your home but with 70% + volume during gaming you will never hear any other sounds in the background with openback headphones, they just feel more free and open compared to closeback that feel very intimate and really close. Also you're friend gave you the best recommendation, these headphones are bar none the best pure audio "gaming" headphones on the market emphasis on the "gaming" part, there are studio grade headphones that can be used for gaming with an amp that would be better but cost a lot more. Also if you plan to use the mic on these headphones they are 1 of 3 best mics for gaming headphones. These are seriously the best gaming headphones you can own, they may not be the most premium physically but the sound quality is unbeatable for gaming in this price range. Comfort is obviously subjective.

I moved from closed to open back recently and had these fears, got a pair of mid range just in case I didn't like them, I love them so much that I am a bit sad I didn't get a higher quality pair like the pc38x. I have the Tygr 300 and it's nice!!! It's best feature is imaging for sure.
@subjecttochange9320
@subjecttochange9320 3 жыл бұрын
First off, the TYGR 300R is a standalone headphone ;) So I´ll be going purely by that and disregard the microphone, you judge wether it´d play a role for you because of money constraints or so (The PC38X is among the best mics I heard on a full on headset so far, you buy the PC38X if you DONT wanna regret anything about sound quality, they basically specced almost all their retail price specc points into sound, not so much build quality if that makes sense) So I´ll get the easy parts out first: Build Quality: Clear winner is the TYGR 300R (Every Beyer shaped like that is a tank, also you can literally order each individual part to replace usually) , the Techne is right about the PC38X build not being at flagship level but it doesn´t try to do that to begin with so not a negative IMO. Tho if you´re known to abuse your cans, get the TYGRs. TYGRs cable is fixed (personal pet peeve) and Sennheiser has its proprietary aaaaall-the-way-up cables that you don´t really find an aftermarket for, basically cables are the biggest weakness of both lol. Still manageable tho, I`m just neurotic like that. Comfort: Personally I´d say the TYGRs are gonna be comfortable for more ppl, the Sennheiser pad shape doesn´t agree with everyone´s headshape, sometimes digs into behind the jaw. If your local tech store has any sennheisers with oval pads, try those on and see if they clash with your head shape but if not, they´re also quite comfotagle but less soft than the TYGR´s (still soft though, it´s HP pads :D) Headbands shouldn´t be an issue in any case. Both also real light, can be worn for a whole day if needed (Given you adjust them properly ofc) Sound: That´s honestly gonna be personal preference, try to get a hold of frequency response graphs of both and ideally also a graph of your most used over ears and compare what you like about the sound of those and go by that. (PC38X has two sets of pads, velour ones makes it sound way less dry, closer to the TYGRs, but the regular ones really mean business aka sound that is conducive to locating and fragging threats, not bass anemic tho by any means if you´re used to neutral tuning, and little known fact the sound you hear seconds after putting cans on your head isn´t the sound you´ll experience the whole session long, brain tries to kinda even out volume differences over time to a degree so less bass won´t be as apparent after a while. But for music specifically, use the PC38´s velour pads) Vocals will always be more intense on the Sennheiser one when comparing to non-senns, that´s just their thing. Smaller than usual soundstage for open backs and strong focus on mids, aka voices and string instruments and such. Not closed back small soundstage tho, just small-ish for open backs. Detail is there with both but due to how their frequency response and sounstage size differs it´s delivered differently, but you won´t think you´re missing out on anything with either. Both of them are cans that you can explore TOOL songs with ;) Soundstage/Imaging: These two stats are kinda intertwined. TYGR has the bigger sound stage and GREAT imaging, Beyer really focussed on that with this model over their existing ones, though if something is *meant* to sound faint in a song or game, it´ll sound faint and you might miss it if you´re distracted. The PC38X has a smaller soundstage and I feel like that contributes to how most of its detail is right there in arm´s reach, but equally easy to discern. I think a good way to put it is that the TYGR probably give you a better sense of how far away from you something is supposed to be, while the PC38X have the tighter directional imaging like which angle something is generally coming from, but they´re both great in both direction and distance, and my #1/2 for PvP gaming, to the point where it´s dependent on my mood that day and sometimes I think they both win the duel depending on the game because they both elevate different frequencies and different games´ sounds contain different amounts of the frequencies, I hope that make sense. If you´re a hardcore semi-pro shooter player I think the PC38X is gonna be better in more titles, direction more important than distance IMO. Conclusion: You won´t be taking either outside so deliberate only for inside use, and consider: - money, wether you NEED a mic too and how professional that needs to be (If you wanna go the content creation route get a dedicated mic either way) - How well you´ll treat them. More abuse will ALWAYS favor Beyers xD - If you´ll use them more for gaming or music/general use (super competitive implies PC38X better) - The kind of music you´ll play with them, if any. More bassy music favors the Beyers, If you´re more the classical type maybe the PC38X after all. Personally I run around the house with the TYGRs on more often, I just love Beyer sound. Preference in sounstage also plays a role if you have one. TYGR are bigger but PC38X doesn´t feel claustrophobic by any means.

I mean you still hear footsteps and can pinpoint where shots are coming from, all without those earpiercing highs. They do also hit deep, if You EQ them they can go very low and slam that hip hop music into you skull. Out of the box they feel "meaty", gunshots thumps, explosions rumble (again, like You said not in a subwoofer way) and got alot of body. Only drawback - they're wired :(

I own an old pair of HyperXCloud II and I bought the PC38X & Beyerdynamic 990 pro to see if I could find something better for both gaming and recording/mixing music. The PC38X were “unimpressive” in the sound department. Not entirely sure why that is but when I play music on Spotify, I find it’s lacking appropriate bass & high end frequencies. The pressure on the jaw is unbearable. The 990 pro sound absolutely incredible with a solid high end which I love, and the bass is clear. It suits my music and gaming needs quite well. They are also much more comfortable. This made me realize the HyperX Cloud II is definitely fine for gaming, not so much for music.

I know this is old, but this is terrible. PC38X is still one of the best gaming headphones. Better imaging, better soundstage, open-back (which won't matter in 99% of circumstances), build quality is really good (plastic is usually to keep the weight down Senn does it with most of their headphones don't be stupid with them and you shouldn't have a problem), and the price seriously? Less than $200 in the US... Doesn't even need a dac/amp (I plug them in with a USB dongle if that tells you anything) and mic is functional enough with a auto mute. It is literally everything thing you need and one of the best sound quality wise you can get for gaming and even sound good for movies and music as well. It is a complete package. I am an audiophile and still chose them over much more expensive headphones I have for gaming. They are better for gaming than even something like Audeze's LCD-GX, which about $800 last I checked. They are better than Astros, better than Mobius, better than...This video's hot take is bad.
