One more advice: never, ever, use a different output (scaled) resolution that is different from the base (canvas) resolution. OBS will drop frames and it will NOT appear on the stats window. Its a known bug but has not been fixed yet.

fantastic video, learned a ton. was unfortunately unable to fix my dropping bitrate issue at this time. i will come back when i find the fix. only thing that seems to show up is rendering lag but very rarely(6 per 10min stream, i never get through the stream cuz of the lag). i do notice the bitrate constantly moving and dropping to 0. constantly having lag. all temps below 58c Setup/network info: i710700k(nzxt x53 attached) zotac 3080ti asus z490 prime-a gskill ddr4 cl16 3200 obs studio set to 8k bitrate Bandwidth via twitch test 10k+ 5ms RTT quality 100 fios gigabit internet with provided router(all reset and tested, on cat6 ethernet) updated drivers(no fix) found network dropping to 0 on task manager in quick intervals performed a ping test on cmd and found allok checked network with (ipconfig /all) found all ok checked another hardware computer that was in use and found no drops on that pc with separate hardwire going to get a new cable as i believe the cat6 i have is a cheapo one and not "real". although i will try my pc in that room on that cable just to be sure RESOLVED: ended up installing a newer and proper cable, found this was able to raise my ethernets send and receive numbers. although what i ended up now seeing for the first time was my ethernet completely dropping off of task manager and sometimes in windows networking window. with this information i ended up trying to disable certain properties within the network adapter, with little to no resolve. Finally i ended up coming across was a simple "network reset" button under the "status" tab of windows "network and internet" all the way at the bottom, it will be highlighted. performing this step ended up resolving everything. learned a lot in the process though so im glad. 70%+ increase in speeds and 0 drops from the ethernet(you will see some send/receive date drop i think this is normal?, but ethernet will not drop out at all now) simply from running a new cable and this network reset button fix. if only i had in the past scrolled down under the status tab further i would have seen this simple fix lmao. But thanks for the great info from this video, learned a ton!

What if i told you for the last year I've been rocking 2 Mbps upload using outdated Dialup (720p 60fps, the games i play aren't really demanding) on Twitch and the streams were practically fine (I had to mess with more settings than explained in this video). I only recently upgraded my internet to much much higher speeds (not dialup) and now i have to work so much out to get it working properly. This video did help a lot when trying to get the drops to stop or at least reduce them by a large magnitude. 10/10 video, will be sending it to a friend as well.

3500kbs to 4500kbs is plenty for Twitch, they recommend this speed. YT is OTT when it comes to bitrate encoding. I have a 100mb upload speed yet I always use Twitch’s recommendations. I learnt the hard way, now my streams are 1080p 60fps, crystal clear with no frame drops. Great video…

For a year and a half, I was able to stream 480p24 to Twitch at 600kbps upstream via my wildly overpriced rural ISP. A couple of weeks ago, I started getting 50% frame loss due to a huge amount of packet retransmission. The ISP refuses to acknowledge there is a problem outside my four walls.

Knowing this stuff. It’s a superpower. Haha. Still trying to figure out the best setup to go to Tweech&’tube. Multi-rtmp plugin vs Aitum. Two separate encoders-HECV h/w or whatever it’s called for KZbin at 12k bit and x264 h/w for Twitch at 5k. I don’t get any warnings using milti-rtmp. I haven’t tried using Aitum WITHOUT having my KZbin output at 1440p. I was trying to get the newer codec. 🤷‍♂️ I just tweak stuff and watch. Tweak stuff and watch. Etc. lol. I didn’t see a difference with vp09 so the extra tax isn’t worth it imo. I think im on the right track with m-rtmp plugin.

I noticed when you changed your resolutions that you set them both to the same size. What would the ramifications be to have a 2560x1440 base resolution and downscale to 720? Would it be better to lower both to match? Thanks

None of these work for me I never had issues with dropped frames I streamed at 10000kbps 1080p and 60 fps with all high settings for 8 months but recently all of a sudden the same PC can't handle 5000kbps 720p and 60fps with mid settings and it still drops frames for some reason. Would that mean my equipment is damaged if that's even possible?

I changed something in my settings that made my videos lag. IDK what i did. Im on a 2012 Macbook Pro so im unable to update to the newer versions of OBS so im still on version 27.1.3 - Please help me fix this so i can get back to my videos. I'm stumped here, I have been streaming with no issue for the passed 8 Days (playing elden ring). Then all of a sudden about 4 hours into my stream i started dropping massive frames. I tried restarting the computer and OBS, and now any time I attempt to go live I am dropping 97% frames... Even though it's been months since this video was uploaded, I'm going to post my issue anyways in hopes that maybe someone can offer some help. For context, my PC is strong, more than enough to play a game and stream it at 1080p 60fps at the same time - I know because I've done it plenty. Last I streamed was just two days ago and OBS was performing perfectly fine. 1080p 60fps, zero dropped frames or any issues to speak of for nearly 6 hours of streaming. Internet upload is roughly 18mbps, so definitely plenty. Today, tried to stream and it was barely able to maintain a steady 2500kbps and would even drop to 0kbps sometimes on OBS, and was dropping 40/60 frames every second. Literally no changes to my settings. So I tried speed testing. Every single speed test shows I'm still getting what I pay for - but here's the odd part: while running speed tests, OBS suddenly stopped dropping frames and was maintaining a steady 6000+kbps again. When the speed test finished, it'd start dropping frames again. So I stopped the stream and started my VPN just out of curiosity and get this, when I started streaming again, I never lost a frame and it kept a steady 6000kbps for over 10 minutes before I stopped the stream again. So my PC is fine, my internet is fine, and OBS is set up just fine, but *not* running a speed test and *not* being connected to a VPN sees OBS dropping frames like crazy. If I just keep running speed tests over and over or I am connected to a VPN, OBS streams flawlessly. Can anyone explain that to me? Is my regular IP getting attacked or something?

Plus I don't really understand how the provider would be at fault in throttling my OBS upload when streaming, but a speed test fixes it for the duration of the test?

@@Sonacnights It seems they are throteling direct streaming connections. When you disguise the streming connection with a VPN it fixes the issue. When you go to the speed test it goes fine, but when you stream directly it is bad. What else could it be?

Not sure why they would suddenly start throttling streaming connections, though. I don't normally bother with the VPN, so when I was streaming perfectly fine just two days ago, it was under the exact same conditions as now, far as I'm aware. I guess I should contact them to try and figure out what the deal is if that's the case.

What if you don’t live in North America. There’s no local servers where I am ( as I’m stuck working in the Caribbean for the time) but the closest is US Florida or Georgia for twitch server with around 60-90ms ping. My internet is 350 down & on average 300 up speeds. I have dual stream PC. So the dedicated stream pc is an I7-6700k CPU 32GB RAM 3060 RTX Somehow I still get about 4-5% drop frames for the network area. I’ve tried all different bitrate, resolution & FPS and I still get between 2-5% drop frames network. Is this simply because of my location away from the servers in the US & the fact that Caribbean countries tend to bounce all services mostly off southern states servers or is my i7-6700k just too outdated tho I use nvenc with the Rtx 3060 for encoding?

Anyone of my friends or family know how to setup OBS Studio for LIVE STREAMING live football games ? For some reason, our video quality goes to crap when clicking start streaming. I have the settings setup to what I am told to do on KZbin videos and Google but still the video quality still is crap, also, when I try to increase the settings in OBS Studio, I get " encoder overload " errors in OBS. KZbin gives error messages that say not enough video is being sent to YT ! I'm at a loss now.... any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hey I've been having this issue. I have a i7 and a 2070 RTX but whenever I stream any game, it seems stutter every few seconds. I get over 100 upload and I even try 5000kb birate. I tried messing with the preset, resolution, and im not getting any dropped frames. I check my task manager and nothing is overloaded (80% cpu max and 50% gpu max.) I capped my frames in game and I seem to still have this weird stutter when I lower my fps. Been looking for a solution for quite a while and I can't seem to find the answer. I've tried just about everything I have seen online and in videos. If anybody has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated

Try messaging with the actual encoder settings. The stuttering had to something in the encoding process. It could be the encoder chip on your Nvidia card is malfunctioning too.

If your frame rate is locked in DaVinci Resolve, make a new timeline and uncheck the Use Project Settings, you can then adjust the frame rate from this window and the previous window Michael talks about. ENJOY!

Okay this is my first time watching one of your videos and I can honestly say I'm not understanding anything you're saying and the video is boring. There's nothing to capture my attention and you can use easier words to where I can understand what I'm actually looking for when you don't capture someone's attention, you lose credibility in my opinion

Mainly I don’t have one to test and a large majority of obs users have Nvidia because nvenc is the gold standard at this point.

@Andy having a new gen card with AMD the issue isn’t OBS dropping frames but rather the card itself for majority of the time. Until AMD actually fixes their streaming codex and drivers you will continue to drop frames unfortunately.
