This is all great and I love your videos! However, I have a specific use case... I use LiveU -> LRT over 3/4 cellulars -> RTMP -> Home PC -> Nginx + NOALBS -> OBS (remote control with OBS websockets) all from a moving motorcycle (and this last bit is the kicker). I am forever having audio and video issues. Im currently on microphone 7, GoPro 2, GoPro Media Mod 2, Hardware Encoder 4, after a million different cables and lots of different experiments/tweaks. Addressing issues out in the field is a problem for me. Sometimes I getting enough data up but not down so I can’t even watch my own stream. Then I’d stream for hours with no audio. Are there any remote monitoring tools that you’d recommend? Its difficult to build momentum and followers when I cannot get consistency.

In your case I don’t think the tech is really there yet to constantly do what you want to do. You may have to apply some trickery to make things look live when they aren’t to get the same effect reliably.

Thanks for this video! I didn't know about the stats, so it helped a lot. However, I still can't find the root cause for my case. The stats shows no frame drops due to rendering or encoding. The connection seems to be good and stable, both on OBS and KZbin side. I checked task manager and resource monitor while streaming, and CPU, GPU, and Network usage all appears to be well within the limits. Despite nothing looking wrong in any of the stats, the stream still appears choppy. Any ideas?

Make sure you do not have the virtual cable or ndi on. If you do a lot of settings are grayed out. My Mac is a 2015 MacBook Pro with 16 fb and the second graphics card. And it also streams like crap. That’s why I got a pc to stream.

Great videos! Thanks. Question: I followed all of the steps in your video and they are definitely helpful however, as soon as I open a browser… Any type of browser, on my Mac mini 2014, there is tons of rendering lag that wasn’t there before. When the browser is closed everything works perfect. Any type of Razer open, and choppy horrible lag but the audio is still good and intact. And when I am in lag it’s not only lagging but very very choppy. Nothing seems to work nothing is fixing this other than not opening the browser. If I open up a browser on a separate desktop that’s a desktop number two then OBS does not pick up the browser so no problem. But the point is I want to be able to window catcher or display capture and crap parts of my browser to share on my stream. Just can’t seem to get it to work any suggestions or thoughts or perhaps you’ve already addressed this and you complete me the right direction thanks so much for your help

This is because macs do not have any dedicated encoder. So the cpu has to do everything and they just can’t keep up. Especially in older Macs, although newer ones still have the same issue, they are just more powerful.

@@MichaelFeyrerJr I understand and thank you for your help! I tried Streamlabs OBS to see if any better. I like the GUI of streamlabs, but it’s no different than obs. I now am getting a black screen in zoom when selecting streamlabs as virtual cam. I’ve tried adjusting output/video settings in streamlabs OBS, and tried adjusting zoom settings. No luck. Then I restarted and streamlabs black screen was gone, but frame rate was dropping at 100%. Maybe OBS just not an option for my Mac.

Hey man, I’ve been trying to figure out if any of this is causing the issue I’m having. My OBS runs nice and smooth when I stream directly to KZbin. But Whenever I open up streamyard page to try and use OBS in streamyard, my OBS freezes. The camera will be working fine, and then as soon as streamyard is opened, frozen. The audio still works, it’s just the video.

I have no more dropped frames and lag due to CPU rendering or encoding! Hooray! Resizing/re-outputting all my background video assets to native 1080p and dropping from 60FPS to 30FPS made a significant difference in rendering time! No longer on the red! ;)

Hi man. Thank you so much for your content. It’s been helping me a lot. I do have a Mac. And macs and obs don’t seem to be great friends huh? Anyway. I do have a couple of problems that are killing me! First. Is that OBS doesn’t see my MOTU áudio interface. I own a traveler interface and that’s where I run my mic through. It works fine with any other software but for some reason I add the source but there’s no sound. Tried everything but it doesn’t work! Second. I have a no dia gpu K5000 and OBS doesn’t give me the option to use its own encoding. So I’m stuck using the x264 thingy which tasks the cpu too much. Any way around these two issues? With Mac I won’t use a discrete gpu for encoding That’s why they are generally a poor choice. I would do a search for your audio device and obs and see if anyone else has been able to add it or had the same issue.

In this case it’s not obs. It’s Mac. They half developed an api to use graphics card encoding and didn’t finish it. I don’t know why but Mac does not care that their machines suck at encoding for live streams even though there are so many that want to do it on a Mac.

Michael Feyrer Jr. it’s weird because my Mac uses the acceleration for premiere. Also when I was checking out ecamm live the whole process was so much smoother and faster. I was able to get my Motu recognized right away. And no lags or choppiness with the video or audio. It’s so good. But I hate subscriptions. That’s why my only choice is obs. Hi there this has helped a real issue streaming last night and will use your thoughts to see if it's OBS or my wifi. I suspect the latter. Though all the methods you use end up streaming at the lowest quality possible. I stream art tutorials and would really want to stay at the best 1080p. Ok, let me explain the problem in steps. I did what you're describing in the video but it still doesn't work. I don't need recording for streaming or recording gameplay, just to make my own presentations that include KZbin videos, and switching between windows. 1) I press start recording 2) I open browser, switch to a youtube video, press play and leave it for some time playing on full screen 3) Then, I stop recording 4) I open File > Show recordings 5) I play the file that I have just recorded 6) Audio playback is spot on. Video as well is perfect when switching tabs, windows, moving the cursor around the screen etc. but when the playback shows the KZbin video is just screenshots every few secs. How can I fix this, please? Thank you Specs: Windows 10 Graphics Card: 2070 Super Processor: i7 9700 16 GB Ram Lots of SSD space

This could be a frame rate issue. Turn your recoding to 30 FPS and see what happens.

That should be more than powerful enough. There must be some sort of scaling that is occurring that is causing the lag. Make sure your assets are all sized the same as your canvas and output.

I dont have any issues with Rendering, or Encoding lag, but most if not all audio being played on the stream PC (I use a 2pc rig), is choppy. Audio piped into the stream PC, is fine. But if a play a media file on the stream PC, ie an animation, stinger, etc.. the audio is choppy. Mic is fine, any sounds coming into stream pc via line in...fine. play a video ... video is fine, audio is choppy, and 0 encoding or rendering lag. Any ideas? I cant recreate it except when streaming.

When creating a stream key from KZbin, what is your recommendation - should we use the Variable key (as defaulted by KZbin) or should we create a new key and change the specs?

The most secure way is a variable key that changes for every stream. Your settings are not ties to the key. You can change them in obs and youtube will adjust accordingly.

Audio issue: I only use OBS for zoom, teams, hangout, etc ie. virtual camera. I use my airpods connected to my MacBook pro M1 via Bluetooth. I've been using OBS for a month or so now with no issue but now when I have OBS running and play a youtube video the audio is choppy. I haven't even started the virtual camera. I close OBS and play the youtube video and the sound comes through the airpods clean. I start OBS, play the same video and the audio is choppy. Any ideas?

This kinda confirms my fears. Mac m1 still sucks for live streaming. Modern graphics cards found in PCs have built in encoders that obs takes advantage of for live streaming. Macs are all cpu and can’t seem to do two things at once. This is by no means a final verdict. I won’t really know until I get one later this year. But it follows the same pattern as all the older Macs so my expectations are low.

How do I set my obs to priority? I’m doing live stream dj audio is good getting freeze on video. We have very bad service with AT&T very slow. I am hard wire in. A couple of weeks ago I live stream everything went well! I added video to my stream & images could video take a lot of juice?

Yes they could. Especially if they aren’t the proper size for your canvas and the encoder has to resize them on the fly.

my Lumix tether gh5 wired up is very choppy, the faster i go on movment when i proform my piano the worse, this is'nt a obs issue as its in tether preview, any help wod be appreciated

downloaded obs & it defaulted to 2500 @ 160. while streaming to utube, message came up that my audio stream current bitrate (0) is lower than the recommended bitrate, we recommend... but while streaming, it wouldn't let me open the widget. suggestions please. i saw this message on the utube streaming. my internet speed test shows 16.4 for mbps download & 19.8 for mbps upload. do i need to change 2500 & 160 to something higher?

i did all these but still my streamlabs is laggy and delayed from the mirroring software I use I have a MacBook air 2020 a little help would be nice and making the cpu ultra fast helped a lot

Hey Michael I just want to give you an update on my rendering issues here… I solved it… Totally accidental. I moved all of my captures over two different desktops on the Mac. You know how you can have a desktop one desktop to desktop three at Cetera well once I moved the windows and apps I was trying to include in OBS over to different desktops once they were captured on the initial desktop, all of the lag goes away and everything is rendering perfectly! I’m not a programmer, but my only guess is that somehow OBS is rendering everything using the X264 software graphics rendering, and there must be an allocated virtual memory from the system… So Mac must allocate a certain amount of virtual memory per desktop just for graphics rendering which gets around the small Intel built-in graphics card that only has 1.5 GB of graphics memory.

hi, Michael, When I do FB live stream through OBS, viewers are getting SPEED VARIATION ON THE AUDIO. But after the Live, is over, the audio is perfect on FB. My Upload speed 80mb. Am using YAMAHA MG 10XU. USING VST PLUGIN NOVA. WHAT COULD BE THE ISSUE ? NVIDEA IS THE GRAFIC CARD. PL HELP

Are you streaming 720 or 1080. Facebook only streams at 720. So if you have obs outputting at 1080 the issue could be Facebook re encoding it on the fly. When you watch the replay it’s been fully encoded so it plays normal.
