So these things have Li ion batteries? That's pretty cool. I was about to suggest doing a Li swap but glad to see Honda improved on the Insight for this IMA. I'll bet it pulls like a train out of those tight corners that put you out of the ICE power range.

Idk about "pulls like a train", but she does alright

The 13-16 years have Li-Ion and the first two years (11/12) has NiMH.

Good stuff. I have a 2011 auto cr-z. Do you think the auto tranny can come out from the bottom without dropping the subframe?
@redhenracing26 ай бұрын
@@bjenks2 I don't know about the auto, but the manual absolutely can. The tech manual has you disconnect the steering and drop the subframe, and we have done this job twice now without touching any of that stuff. After this video, we sourced a new tranny and she's good now, and we can do the job in under four hours. Dropping subframe was completely unnecessary for us.

Thanks for the video and info regarding the subframe. Very nce to know that the manual trans can be slipped out without taking out all the additional frame and suspension parts.

Does sound like a bearing is going out in that trans. Replacing just the bearing would be a good video!

A whole transmission is proving quite difficult to source, might need to find some bearing part numbers

@@redhenracing2they are definitely not plentiful. They're hard to find and probably close to 1000 if they have to be shipped. What did you decide to do? I'll have the clutch out of mind in the next day or two. I think the throwout bearing completely blew up on it. When in gear it doesn't sound like the transmission is making me much noise hopefully. I bought it this way so we will see.

@@stlwolf71 we found a replacement transmission from a parts car in SC while we were home in GA on vacation. There were only a couple available on ebay around $1000-$1200 plus shipping, we gave $1200 for this one after inspecting it in person. The throwout bearing is only $9 on amazon if that makes you feel better🤣 When you drop yours, don't bother with the whole section of the tech manual about dropping the subframe and steering rack. It's completely unnecessary. We've done it twice now and are pretty efficient at it, shoot me a message on IG if you have any trouble with it 🤙

@@redhenracing2 That's awesome. Yes they are pricey. I have found one for $1,000 if I need it. I unhooked the IMA before bed last night and put jack stands under it this morning and started tearing apart some of it. The temperature is already in the mid-80s and is to reach 100 today with heat index of 110 so no working in the garage later. If needed, I have 4 days of good weather coming starting in a couple of days. I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the subframe. Good to hear! I will definitely look you up and if I need anything I'll take advantage of it. I appreciate it. Look forward to seeing some of your track adventures in yours.

@@TylerLinner I have noticed while researching that it's common for the front carrier bearing to go out. Most of the Hondas are known for it. When the transmission is running with the clutch in there's no oil getting to the bearings. Oil is only distributed when it's moving. It causes the front bearing to be a common problem.
