Matt and Abby I’m a medical student and it sounds like your dad is suffering from sleep apnea. When people have this,they are not breathing properly at night, the body wakes up constantly during the night. He might not even notice he is waking up at night. He doesn’t get enough hours of sleep and that is what causes him to suffer from daytime sleepiness and tiredness. They have several tests to go get it to check out. If he does suffer from this there are thing to help him.

dear matt, I got diagnosed with adhd in my early 20's even though I was a "good student" growing up. it did take me a while to find a psychiatrist who was willing to explain that those two things could coexist, but being diagnosed has helped me understand how I function a lot better! adhd can look different from person to person. (and even if you don't get diagnosed, some adhd coping strategies can still be helpful in general!) thanks guys for the podcast and videos, keep up the awesome work!

Omg I just love Matt's parents! They are so sweet & so loving & so supportive! Hearing all the things his dad built for him or helped him with & all the stuff his mom would do for him just to be able to dance & do theater, such as sitting at McDonald's for over 2 hours every week sometimes twice a week! They are truly the best parents! Matt is so blessed to have such loving, caring, supportive parents. I literally almost cried hearing the way they talk about their sons. They seem like such genuine down to earth people. & I see where Matt gets his brains from. His Mom & Dad both are very smart! Can't wait till you have them back on. I loved hearing all the stories about their relationship, them as individuals, Matt's childhood, & the relationship they have with you as well as past memories. This is probably one of my favorite episodes so far! I hope your parents read the comments. You are so so blessed Matt. I miss my Daddy so much & watching this made me think of him.

Oh my gosh, first I'm 49 and watch y'all. But Matt, these stories remind me so much of my son's childhood and early 20's. Our son was in theatre, modeled and played every sport. I was a home health nurse and would have to drive him everywhere to his back to back practices and I would chart in the car. Dad was traveling with work. We supported everything he wanted to try. He quit community college and moved to Nashville alone to study audio engineering then after graduating he decided he was moving to Colorado. Literally almost 2k miles away. He passed from testicular cancer 16 months ago at 24. Love watching y'all.

Honestly I agree with Matt’s parents about not giving him ADHD medication. If Matt was excelling in school already and functioning well then he shouldn’t need to take it. I feel like back then add/adhd meds were pushed so much because it was new. No one really knew much about the consequences of the medication and whether it was truly beneficial to their child’s well-being. My husbands parents put him on add medication when he was 8 y/o and it really affected him negatively. He had severe anxiety and starting having behavior issues in school. Now as an adult he realizes that he was just a very uninterested child in school and probably would have thrived in a different school setting that would have fit his personality better. I’m not saying that medication shouldn’t be given when it’s absolutely needed and beneficial but I think it was smart of them to think critically about their child and the pros and cons of medication

Totally! I have an ex that was on meds for add/ adhd as a kid and it would take his appetite away. His parents wouldn’t make him take it on the weekend so he would essentially binge all weekend and now he basically has a binge/ purge thing. He never learned to recognize the feeling of being full so now he eats until he physically can’t hold anymore and then goes and pukes… by “now” I mean like 12 years ago…
@jodil1209
@jodil1209 Жыл бұрын
My husband never got diagnosed until he was about 30. Our youngest daughter was so smart in school, and someone told us she's got adhd, and we were like no she doesn't. She would sit for hours drawing or coloring, and she did get all A's in school. We didn't realize that part of adhd was over focusing on one thing so much that it wasn't normal healthy behavior. I still wouldn't have put her on meds when she was younger. She takes them now, though as an adult. My husband sometimes forgets his adhd meds in the morning, and I will have to drive to his work to give it to him because he can't concentrate to read a blueprint for his job.

I always love it when you have Matt’s parents on. They are the best! I couldn’t watch this without commenting on Matt mentioning seeking being diagnosed with ADHD. The tactile references clued me in along with the straight A’s and your curiosity along with your vast interests. Spoiler alert. You’re gifted. And yes, I understand the stigma that comes with that, so please hear me out. In the time you were raised there was No understanding of this, so your parents are right, your educational influences were amazing. And your mom’s intuition is spot on. Both your parents supported your curiosity and creativity and that is so awesome! But there’s one thing I want to say and I want you to really listen. Adhd is diagnosed way too easily. And if it isn’t evaluated by someone who is familiar with giftedness it can be a major detriment. Why? Adhd meds can strip you of all of your creativity. So please do some major research. The difference between true adhd and giftedness is that someone who is gifted can either bring themselves back on their own eventually or can with one or two reminders. A truly adhd person cannot. You have a great thing going and parents and a wife that support you. ❤ Your creativity is the basis of who you are. Adapting with google calendar, Cozi. Ways of communicating to get the daily life things done is key. I wish y’all the best. You’ve got this! ❤

It’s so cool to hear more about Matt’s passions! Like it amazes me! I and my brother were both born with very distinct, (and quite unusual) passions that we’ve been demonstrating since the get go, and as I’ve aged I’ve noticed how rare it is! It’s sooooo cool to see someone that is as dynamic as Matt have a not similar “decided” path that my lil bro and I do, but a similar passion for these individual things.❤❤❤❤❤love yall

Love ❤️ to hear that you’re parent is still in love! My husband and I have been married since 1993 and 30 year later still in love. My husband took us to our favorite restaurant a friend brought a dozen roses in middle of our dinner my boyfriend went down on one knee and boom we were engaged!

Matt has said that he has ADHD and the sensory issues (clothing issues, feeling warm) were definitely a symptom of that, also the question asking and always moving (hyperactivity). Also being such an entertainer! And having a hard time finding your people/being unique! Also sky diving! That may have been dopamine seeking! Very interesting learning all of this.

Over the years I’ve listened to many KZbin couples podcasts and watched many blogs, but Matt & Abby are the only successful influencers that are still down to earth and relatable! And that is why I only fw them ❤️

O my goodness, love your parents! Hearing them talk about you , you were totally like one of my sons! So many identical things. Even the surgery at a young age that affected his young life in the same way!
