I also lost my mom a few years ago and feel similarly about this song. Apparently the lead singer wrote this about his mother, who passed from cancer. It really gives the song a different meaning to me! And of course, First to Eleven absolutely killed this cover! :)

Been feeling down as of late and realized it was because I missed my mom. She passed 3 years ago and life has kept me busy and never really gave me a chance to let go and grieve. But Drops of Jupiter was playing in my head and I didn't know why. So being the music loving man I am, I decided I would listen to a cover... thinking, "because it was my moms fave song it would hurt less than the original would" . But it still hurt but in a beautiful way. I now know why my mom loved it so much, it was because when I was learning to sing and play guitar at the same time, it was one of the first songs I picked up buy ear when I was 8. Now I know why she always sang it to me growing up ( even when I told her to play it on cd she never knew the artist and always referred to it as "mommy's song".) What I am trying to say is that, no matter how much you love the original, there is always another beautiful way to ear it, play it and love it! Much love from a big fan!
