I did dropshipping for a couple years. I wasn't "making millions" but I did make a full time income. I would not make make customers wait 3 weeks for their product though. I would usually test a product using a "pre-order" method in which if I got enough traction on a product, I'd order the product in bulk and use a fullfillment center in the US, that way new customers would have sub 5 day shipping times. Hey Jake. Good video! Here's an alternative viewpoint. Dropshipping, while in most cases is not the greatest long-term business model, it's an EXCELLENT way for beginners to quickly learn a bunch of business/digital marketing skills. Anyone that goes through the process of running a dropshipping business from start to finish has to learn how to: 1. Do market research & competitor analysis 2. Decide on a business name and register a domain 3. How to setup Shopify / email accounts / payment processors / edit themes 4. How to design a logo & edit images / use photoshop / video editing software 5. How to write good website copy, product descriptions, ads and come up with different marketing "angles" 6. Set up social media profiles & run Facebook ads 7. Read data, set up reports, manage cashflow and look at business metrics like COGS, ROAS, ROI etc. 8. Basics of conversion rate optimization /split testing 9. Source products, deal with suppliers & negotiating 10. Writing job descriptions, interviewing/hiring staff, writing SOP's and training manuals ... and more! These skills are all invaluable and best of all, transferable to any future ventures/projects! Just my 2c :)

@@drewdebrocke2656 It depends on how you approach the dropshipping. Mini market/convenience store in an essence is a dropshipping business that exchange the convenience and availability without adding any value to the item itself, which meaning that even without adding value to items, you can still make profit. Justin above already pointed that marketing is a viable exchange for profit. MLM(not a pyramid one) is an example of exchanging marketing with profit. Marketing items that has no selling power outside of its own region internationally will give you profit. There is also availability option where you can only get certain item from dropshipper like obtaining branded items with its branded quality but without the logo.

@@keihazuki22 Ehh, convenience stores can general buy their stock with bulk or wholesale prices, meaning the cost to the customer remains sane. Dropshippers, on the other hand, literally just place an order and have it shipped to their customer when their customer makes the order, meaning the customer literally could have just bought the same thing for a lower price from the source. The whole point of drop shipping is that you don’t need to hold any stock, meaning you can’t get bulk or wholesale discounts. The only value you’re adding is marketing, but remember that a certain amount of marketing had to be done for you to find it in the first place.

I sell supplements on eBay for different brands and the supplier offers dropshipping instead of buying in bulk. You have to actually find the product and market the product and run the ads. Your just connecting buyers and suppliers just like any other business. I’ve been doing it for a over a year on eBay and its really profitable and sustainable especially during the pandemic. I use domestic suppliers so 2 day shipping not 3 weeks. You said there’s almost no value. That’s like saying marketing agencies provide no value. You said it’s been around for a few years when its been around for well over a decade. I’m assuming you took a shopify dropshipping course and got no results so your putting down the whole business model when you can do it on eBay, Amazon, Etsy etc. Not hating on you I just think your misinformed.

Yea I'm going to have to disagree with this video. Dropshipping is literally just a business model where the product is made on-demand instead of beforehand with a low barrier to entry. It's going to take the same amount of energy and wits to develop a profitable and sustainable business. Your views are very narrow especially about "best prices".... A company like Apple is almost the opposite of "best prices", so that shouldn't even be mentioned. Also, about "fast delivery", it's absolutely up to you the business owner to choose good suppliers with good reputations who can deliver effectively if you're not doing it by yourself (like literally every other model that buys something and sells it at a higher price for profit, aka the majority of businesses). Finally, the point about "big selection" doesn't even apply because many companies build their entire existence around a single product. Just because of Jeff Bezos' quote (which you based your entire video around) was said, it literally means nothing in regards to your premise that "dropshipping is dead". That was a big extrapolation and one that isn't even completely analogous. The tone of your video suggests that you are just talking about people who are bad at business in general, which is to say they don't know how to "provide value" effectively and thus profit from it. Selling low quality crap isn't a business. If you make a product that people want, they will buy it if you provide it at the right price. It has nothing to do with "dropshipping". So I'm going to have to disagree that "dropshipping is dead, because it isnt. That's like saying retail and wholesale is dead. What's actually dead and has always been dead is selling crap. Tl;dr Very weak points. Nice editing though.

Huge misconception: Dropshipping is a buissness Dropshipping IS NOT a buissness. Dropshipping is merely a METHOD of handling inventory inorder to improve a businesses cash flow. A buissnesses cash can be entangled or tied up in mainly 2 places: Inventory and accounts receivable (people who owe the business money - loans to other entities ect...) Therefor when A business uses a dropshipping modle they have a lot of cash that can be put to use in marketing and operations instead of being tied up in inventory. another way to look at this is a pre order modle. this also helps a businesses cashflow as cash is not tied up in inventory. Tesla did not invest billions in to cyber trucks and have tens of thousands of them ready for sale. They did a pre order model where they brought a MVP ( minimum viable product ) to the market. they offered pre orders that gave Tesla 2 important things: 1) proof of concept , meaning they now have proven that the market reacted well to the product launch 2) cash from pre order deposits which helps the cash flow and can be put to work in product development. Tesla could have invested billions and had tens of thousands of cyber trucks ready for sale, but they and many other businesses prefer to diversify there cash and risk by using a "lean start up" model approach. There is no diffrance whether a business holds its inventory or pays for its inventory as a pay as you go modle also known as dropshipping. as regards to shipping times : if the supplier has inventory in the country you sell in you can provide decent shipping times. Once you have proven proof of concept and you product is selling well and there is no way to source it from the country you are selling in should you start using a diffrent inventory method for you business and start buying whole sale hope this brought some value and would love to hear thoughts

I can't totally agree with the video... The "Amazon way" is just that, one way of making business. Luxury or "big selection, low prices and fast shipping" aren't the only ways of adding value. Dropshipping is a lot about "winning products" and niches exactly because people usually won't spend hours looking for the coolest and/or newest products on AliExpress. In a world of stores with very big selections (like Amazon), dropshipping is almost like a curated service, presenting products to people that they didn't know existed but would like to buy. That's how I see dropshipping. Even though I don't do it myself, I'd say it still has room to grow a lot.

I'm not saying dropshipping is viable business anymore, however there are plenty of businesses that do not create any value for customers that still make huge amounts of money. It's the perceived value that entices customers to justify spending money on your products, how much value you actually provide is irrelevant. Also, ease of use is also a form of value. If your service allows people to find products they otherwise would not have found, that's also a form of value. Think about casinos or designer clothing. Companies that resell Microsoft services like Office 365 and the like make billions of dollars every year. That said, there are other problems with dropshipping, but you cannot neglect the marketing aspect.

It's hilarious reading all the drop shippers defend their careers in the comments. Nobody is going to disagree that this is legal or that the method of up-selling products hasn't been around forever. The real reason I think drop shipping will slow down in the long run is due to so many customers being burned and receiving way less value than they believed due to the deceptive nature of these sites. I literally haven't talked to a single person who said "Yeah I ordered off a drop shipping site and I would do it again after waiting 4 weeks for my sh*ty product." People recognize the Shopify site layouts, the 24/7 sale that never ends, the 100% customer satisfaction guarantee stamps that mean nothing, and the SAME. DAMN. COMPANY. STATEMENT. time and time again. If the name of the game is deceiving customers in order to get a high conversion ratio of viewers to buyers, I'm out If you're okay running a business that is deceptive BY NATURE to it's customers and you think that brings real value to your life, I pity you. Plenty of legal businesses pray on their customers and in the end, it just goes to show what you believe in as a person and as a business owner. Are you the same type of person to up sell insulin to diabetics because you own the only patent?

Here is why this video is looking at drop shopping the wrong way. Dropshipping is not meant to be a long-running business, getting into it is a way to start earning an amount of money that could support in maybe making your business bigger or making actual businesses, it was never built for big money. Also, there is value in dropshipping stores, and they're the reason I buy from them myself, it's the fact they provide people with certain products that they would take a long time to look for, and if the store is good, they would have tested the quality too, so they save you two things, time looking for something, and quality variance in online stores. Also, I know this is before COVID, and now shipping is delayed for everyone, but even back in the days where shipping was fine, my country never had the option of same-day delivery, more of, me buying from Amazon means I'll have to pay delivery where a lot of dropshipping sites offer free shipping and delivery. So the whole problem with this video is you took the customer character of an avid Amazon buyer that has the advantages that Amazon offers, and that's not even half of the world's population. The last thing is, as a consumer, at this point, if I want to buy something, I usually follow dropshipping pages and sites, it's better to see the things I like than everything on the internet that I might not be able to buy! It's not a long-running business, especially if you don't grow with it, but there are still a lot of shops that are almost brand names now that people just prefer to go to so they'd buy what they're interested in with good quality. In the end, you defined what a business should be, defined your own perfect consumer, and ignored the fact that by doing that you could pretty much say any business out there is not a business or is not going to succeed. You killed the whole idea of market research and marketing strategies and different consumer behaviours.

for those of us who actually know how the KZbin ad algorithm works... we're not surprised... and those of us who know how advertising works, also know his assumptions on drop-shipping are wrong. but as a dropshipper... please listen to him. I have no issue with this video getting super popular and keeping people out of the business.
