4:18 the red herring of getting the top right block to go up and left was so hilariously devious, with the small gap and arrow explicitly implying to do so. The fact that trying to do so left you with exactly 1 dash too few was just so perfect lol.

I disagree heavily with the inclusion of this level in the beginner lobby. However, it was a really well-designed puzzle. The mechanics are very clearly given to the player, and it lives for the ah-ha! moment when everything just lines up into place (or when you hit the pixel-perfect jump and cheese the whole thing out, like I ended up doing with the heartside room). If there's one thing I'd change, it's that I'd add a little landing area in between the gap at the bottom and the next screen. Sometimes I'd just go for the jump to screw around and would actually hit it, but couldn't go back to actually try to do it legit without restarting the menu or opening the debug map
@dallama2616 Жыл бұрын
pretty sure the lobby its placed in depends on tech used, since this uses only beginner tech it's in the beginner lobby
@mythicmysticmoon Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Spring Collab had the same issue with Crystal Enigma being in the beginner lobby. Imo, it shouldn't Just be tech that decides where a level is placed. Both this map and Crystal Enigma should've at least been in Intermediate.
@Androix77 Жыл бұрын
The maps are arranged depending on the celeste skill required to pass it. For this map you don't need to be good at celeste, but you need to be good at solving puzzles. A person who first time in his life came to this game will be able to pass this level quickly enough. Therefore I think this level is fairly placed in the begginer lobby.

Really cool level, but at the same time not hoping for more harder versions of these in the harder lobbies. Was the only level I had to come back to (twice) because I was stuck. Couldn't figure out the first "Ferry" one. Sadly having this video in the background I was too drained to give "Perpendicular" a real try and looked at the sollution. The collab has been amazing for me so far. I only did one casual playthrough at release (before farewell came out) and a couple b-sides i believe. I am now at flag 10 in the level unlocked by getting all the blue hearts in the beginner lobby. Took me 1h 20m just to get there, so need a break. I'm close to 13 hours total, but I think you guys nailed the difficulty level for the beginner lobby. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the other lobbies as well.

What an awesome concept, and it was really well executed as well! I think a lot of people who played this and ended up complaining about it and calling it terrible conflated "this is a bad map" with "I don't personally enjoy puzzle maps". I'm usually not the biggest fan of puzzle games/maps and I cheesed some of the screens in this map, but I can still recognize that it's objectively really well-designed.

Really well designed level, but it should not have been included in the beginner lobby. I understand that it only uses beginner tech, and that it is hard to define how difficult a puzzle is, but this is clearly harder than any other beginner map by a huge margin. The way I look at it, is you want the beginner lobby to be the one that new players/casuals engage with and be able to complete. This level and to a lesser extent the other puzzle level, are going to be HUGE roadblocks for newer players. They should have been placed into int or advanced regardless of tech used IMO. Beginner puzzle levels should be relatively simple and easy to figure out. This is my minor criticism of an otherwise amazing level and an otherwise amazing collab!
@morkypep50 Жыл бұрын
Look at the room daedalus. So you can hold the side of the switch gate in the exact same position as the solution, but because you are holding it from the other side your pixels don't perfectly line up. So you are expecting a newer player to understand that? I'm an expert player and I didn't know that lol. I ruled out putting the kevin there because falling from the switch gate didn't line up. I don't see how a new player could logic that out without seeing the solution or trial and error. I'm not even going to get into Perpendicular, and how that room is so far beyond what a newer player could figure out because I think the room speaks for itself. In the room Breadth, I didn't realize that you could dash as many times in the air as you wanted. I understood the limited number of dashes but I still thought normal Celeste logic applied. I struggled until I cheated by wavedashing. But I guess it wasn't actually cheating. Anyways, cool level. Bad placement.
@adammfontenot Жыл бұрын
@@morkypep50 re daedalus: There's no magic happening here. It's the exact same pixel alignment. If you hold it on the right, you're off to the right of the target, because Madeline has non-zero width. If you hold it on the left she aligns perfectly. Nothing too surprising about this although I admit it took a long while before it occurred to me. I agree with you though that the difficulty curve is a bit broken. I understand the "tech" gating, but if you can beat "red" difficulty under beginner, you have *way* more skill than you need to have mastered intermediate tech. I can't imagine there are very many players of SJ that haven't played at least Farewell and the B-sides.

The only one of these that didn't occur to me was timing the Kevin block to hit the descending key block in Correlation. I managed to get the berry in the room because I figured out the momentum thing from the previous room. With that you can just align the Kevin with the key block at the bottom. I think this is the only place in the level where you have to precisely time a Kevin like that. I ended up "cheating" my way into Alcove by timing an up dash instead.

You have no idea how long it took me to do deathless. You might think it would be easy, knowing the solutions. It wasn't. It was so janky, and I kept dying over and over again. The more I died, the more impossibly frustrated I got. It wasn't platforming that I could improve on, it was a stupid puzzle that I already knew the answers to. The more I died, the easier it was for me to make dumber mistakes. This map was hell, and should be treated as such.
@lasermuoricrostatad1385 Жыл бұрын

Due to the lack of an undo button and the solution execution being really difficult, this is by far the worst experience of a level yet. The puzzles were great, but the platforming holds them back and makes it more frustrating than it needs to be. Though I will also say, some solutions were too cryptic. I had the right idea using the other screen to get to the third berry, but the means of doing so was much more hidden and made it very likely for my efforts to fall flat. Hopefully this feedback helps make better puzzle levels in the future. My suggestion is that for these puzzles, reel back on the platforming a little bit and use it to compliment the puzzles rather than make it a 2nd focus. When we know a solution to these more difficult puzzles, it makes us more upset when we can't finish the puzzle after we did everything we felt necessary to solve it. In normal Celeste, it is much easier to solve a room because what you need to do is clear as you play or observe it. The puzzle to solving rooms in base Celeste compliments the platforming so flipping it around should make this level feel much better.
