Truly lovely backyard. Would have loved to have seen the front yard given she said she was on the HOA. Does their HOA allow homeowners to install drought and native landscaping in their front yards?

This was so inspiring! I have been so discouraged about gardening here inSan Antonio especially during the recent drought I wanted to give up on my yard. But now the yard is so dry and dusty I am determined to do something . I just don't know where to start. Any chance I could contact Alexa Volpe? My yard is on somewhat of a slope , Im retired and limited income but would love to transform it the way she has.Thank you! Sue

Don’t be discouraged in San Antonio, would you believe I live in San Diego, California, and I’m constantly discouraged? 😂 And I’ve been doing this for… over twenty years at this point! Haha. Southern California weather, climate, soil ecology, animals, etc. are all not what you think it is. Sure, it’s beautiful weather and perfect relatively, but the temps can stress plants out and people, too. When it’s 75° F in the daytime, in January, but at nighttime it drops to 40°? That’s a large change. It’s brutal, for some plants, having big fluctuations, plus it makes the night and early morning temps feel like it’s literally freezing! 😆 Then the flipside is that we periodically have dry winds, Santa Ana winds, and wildfires… sigh. We’re only a few minutes from the ocean, so at night everything gets covered in fog and marine layer, in some form. Some nights it’s just dew, others it’s full thick fog. Either way, many plants develop dust and fungal issues from being wet, and we live near a busy Air Force base of course. Pollution from the sky and roads all the time. I’ve never experienced so much dust and grime as San Diego, California, my hometown! 😂 So don’t be discouraged. I would like to switch places with you, I want real weather. Either be cold, or be hot, I dont like all this perfect 60-70° and partly cloudy here.

Did they not show the garden, the plants? I don’t understand the confusion. They always interview the gardener and show clips of the plants and hardscape. Literally, every time. 🤔
