Thanks-so helpful! And happy to know what plants are pollinators since we’re losing an alarming amount of bees. I have LOTS of flame acanthus which volunteer themselves to about a half acre of our 3 acres. I live in Bastrop county and grow everything by seed or cuttings. Do you have a video on growing by seeds and cuttings? Or do you know where I can learn more? Thanks!

I live in Texas so this was very helpful. Do you recommend a certain potting soil? I had heard it is better not to get one with fertilizer in it.
@CentralTexasGardener9 күн бұрын
Gosh, I wouldn't want to push brands! I'd say to look at the ingredients. Definitely for succulents you want something that's more gritty and good-draining. I'd go to a nursery rather than a box store, too, and ask.

How different are the blackland prairies of Texas compared to the ones in Midwest
@CentralTexasGardener9 күн бұрын
What a great question! It is the same prairie soil, as I understand. The temperature and amount of rain can change. Beautiful prairie designer, Kelly Norris, author of New Naturalism, has a gorgeous front yard Blackland Prairie in Iowa. We grow a lot of the same plants, but bloom times and dormancy may differ.

are these wild flowers and wild plants?
@CentralTexasGardener9 күн бұрын
Some are considered "wildflowers." Most are native plants: perennials, some annuals, groundcovers, grasses, and trees.

Linda, you are a truly wonderful communicator, writer and narrator, I must say… especially on your gardens-on-tour videos, where your descriptions (and soothing voice!) truly capture the "essence" of each property! From certain unique plants or planting schemes, yard art pieces, and any construction. sustainability or accessibility projects the gardeners have undertaken, and more. Your words show your passion when compared to some other gardeners in the media. Thank you for CTG.

I have a septic tank, I am unsure where the septic field actually is. But unfortunately Bermuda is what was used as the lawn, I'm in the process of getting rid of it all through manually digging it up and cardboard and wood chips.

Seems like they didn’t even waste money making a raised flower bed! That’s great! They just used bricks.. wondering if they dug out the dirt and filled it with purchased soil or just mulched it? Anyone have any guesses? I really want to make a simple bed for plants🙂
@stephaniesyed790916 күн бұрын
If you don’t want to dig out a slightly raised bed, you could top dress with compost and cover with mulch!

can yall do a video on propagating Snake Herb?
@CentralTexasGardener9 күн бұрын
Great idea! Basically, just dig some up (get the roots) and transplant it. Not now!!! I also wouldn't do it as we near freezing temps, since young plants may not make it through a hard freeze, depending on your microclimate. To be super safe, I'd do it after the last frost (March or so), so that it can establish before getting hot. Again, depends on where you live.
