Three quarters of a year later than originally planned for but hey, it's finally out! A big thank you to all those that have been patiently waiting over the past months - I appreciate you and I'm sorry to have disappointed you with the delays. I sincerely hope that the final product was worth it in the end :) Now a lot of you are probably wondering why this took so long, so I feel that a little explanation is in order for those who are curious. The TLDR is that I took on the most complex project I've ever attempted at a time of big changes in my life and failed to properly account for those changes in my time estimate. I won't get into every last detail, but some of those factors include: • Having a full-time job (last time I attempted something of this scale I was still a student) • Moving to another country, gradually acquiring the gear needed to make this project happen over time • Being in a relationship (she's the one beside me playing piano btw) • Working with a generally more complex soundtrack compared to 3rd gen (see the video description for an elaboration) • More tracks included in the arrangement • Learning new instruments (pedal steel guitar, chromatic accordion) specifically for this project • Extremely challenging parts (most notably Cynthia's theme) that took weeks upon weeks of practice to pull off • Bigger plans in the video department (renting of a grand piano, recording video played back on the DS) All those factors contributed to a slower-than-expected pace of development. That wouldn't have been such a big deal until the remakes got announced. Suddenly the pressure was on to finish the medley in time for the release of those remakes. It didn't take long to find out that wasn't a realistic goal. Well if I couldn't release them on time, I thought, I could at least announce what I was working on around that time, as seeing the remakes be announced and released all while trudging on with this project in silence would be far too painful. So I took note of where I was at with the medley, compared it to how long the previous medley (Ruby/Sapphire) took me, and made a rough estimate of how much time it should take to complete. What I foolishly failed to take into account was the number of factors (outlined above) that had changed since the last one. After the soft "deadline" of February rolled around came the real pain: I still had a significant amount of work to do and people were expecting an imminent release. I made the announcement that it wasn't ready to which virtually everyone was supportive of; I made sure to specify that I would take as much time as needed, but continued to give updated estimates. Time and time again, the estimates proved to be off, and people's patience, rightly so, began to fade. I did my best to tune out the negativity and continue pushing forward, but that's admittedly easier said than done. I considered disabling comments or even taking down the teaser video to focus on completing it but I knew that would only make things worse, so I was stuck in a position where I just had to endure it. In spite of the negativity, there was a surprising number of absolute saints that continued to express support down to the final weeks, whom I'll be forever grateful for. And you know what? Even if this project took another year to complete, even two, I'd still do it. That's how much I love this soundtrack.

Hey Dr Pez. I have subbed to you for at least for nine years--perhaps longer, but I know it's at least nine, since I commented on your Fusion Dragon cover all the way back then. I want you to know that this medley legitimately had me tearing up. Maybe that's silly, but I've listened to your stuff for so long, for most of my adult life. Through you, I found Marc, and many, many cover artists that I regularly listen to, AND YOU BROUGHT SO MANY OF THEM HERE! Over the years, I have continually come back to your videos, and I am just so fond of them all. This is truly a spectacular thing you have here! And that Cynthia! I remember when FamilyJules' Cynthia track came out, where he mentioned you and you commented there, and I thought, "Wow, I now have to listen to Dr Pez's version again now!" Well, as much as I love Jules (his stuff is incredible), there is just something deeply nostalgic of hearing your rendition, taking your (still awesome) version from years ago and making it even better. Until hearing this, I didn't know I could feel so nostalgic not for the original game versions, but your amazing style itself. I don't care in the slightest this took so long. You nailed it. Great music and a great video. I am so, so happy you finished this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the awesome jams over the years. Cheers, man.

Edit: after finishing this video, I really see how much your composing talents have grown in the past few years. The final few minutes of this medley are an absolute masterpiece. So much of a personal twist was put on these classic songs. Thanks, everyone for making this. I listened to the rse medley every time I would drive from Nashville TN to Cookeville TN for school. It was in a playlist and whenever I was close to my exit on the interstate, the part where Carlos (insaneintherainmusic) comes in for Slateport city would come on. Favorite arrangements: - Transition from Galactic Battle to Gym Leader, very satisfying - Playing the main theme of Gym Leader twice, with harmonized guitars during the second - 7:50 to 8:11: this lead guitar solo break is so tasty, love the way you approached it and the direction you chose for the lead phrases, how the solo "moves around" and "speaks". It's the part I have found myself looking forward to the most during the medley. Rich's solo after slays too, and the harmonized part! - The string parts and groove of Twinleaf Town, originally it's a chill song but you progressed into an exciting pace to open up this beast of a medley - The palm muted tele parts in Route 206 and Route 209 - Route 209 classical guitar, so nostalgic. The contribution of the guests is very strong too - Transition from Route 205 to Route 210 - Route 210 expressive lead guitar with whammy and the harmony bends - Transition from Route 210 To Dialga/Palkia, feels so good when it hits with the slower tempo - Cynthia piano performance, with the added drums and those guitar harmonies that unexpectedly sneak in - Cynthia Battle: iconic lead guitar part of your original cover, loved to find it again unchanged, classic cover - 17:45 Piano + Rhythm guitar for this part - 18:30 the low health sound adding suspense - The Cynthia piano arranged on tapping guitar and bass, very addictive sounding - The mashup between Cynthia and Dialga, the victory theme and reprise to Twinleaf The mix is very clean and crispy and the bass tone is audible throughout and addicting. I also want to applaud you for how you manage to contain your excitement and stay patient when working on a massive project for such extended periods of time, the urge for wanting the world to listen to it must have been so strong! Like when you come up with a great arrangement for a part and feel proud but know that it will be a while until everything is polished and ready for release. Me I already feel it strongly enough with normal length covers, so I can only imagine how it scales with medleys like this one lol

I was 11 years old when D & P came out. This reminds me of better times, when my father was still alive 😢 hearing this version of the Team Galactic theme gave me goosebumps. Thank you
I can't believe this piece of art is for free. Thank you mate, really. You're an amazing artist, and I somehow feel proud of you for doing this huge thing despite the difficulties you mentioned in the pinned post; in short, thank you very much ❤️

6:38 This transition is extraordinary and one of many gems in this masterpiece of a medley cover. These few times you did the Musicians On the DS Screen bits was a really great idea, and makes it sound exactly like I remember the game sounding, but BETTER. I can't believe your extremely disciplined attention to detail throughout this whole thing. This medley has brightened up my whole week.

I have no idea if that part of the Dialga and Palkia theme coming on during the Cynthia battle when Dialga was on screen was on purpose, but by god, I have shivers down my spine because of it I played Pearl and Platinum for 7 years total before I finally moved onto other things due to my family actually having money to be able to afford newer things, played from when I was 8 to 15. As one of the MANY people who played these games when we were kids, this video was a trip....all I can say is thank you for this beautiful rendition of the soundtrack many of us grew up on.

The ending is too beautiful. The way the strings came to end everything with that editing on the DS and then shutting it. I've already seen this a few times and I'm still finding myself trying not to shed tears at the end.

HOLY CRAP. This was beyond incredible!!! Dr. Pez, not only do I admire you for creating such a jaw-dropping medley of such an iconic soundtrack, but I really respect you for pushing through all the roadblocks and negativity you had to face while taking on such a huge project. MASSIVE props to you and everyone who participated!

No Matter how many times i listen to this masterpiece, it always brings me to tears of joy. I put so many hours into these games as a kid and this Medley really brings me back to simpler times. I remember letting my DS just sit around and listening to the D/P Soundtrack which is a masterpiece on its own. But this? This is so damn amazing! Extremely amazingly executed and Produced. You have my salutes. Every single one of you. Thank you so much for the Gift of bringing me back into my 7 year old self whenever i want. This has to be one of my Favorite KZbin Videos ever.

@@jake9854 what, this feels unrelated. But still on topic on your statement, alot of people, no matter their sex, still play Pokémon. The opinion of something is based on preference, not their gender after all
Dr Pez and everyone who contributed to this medley that made up so much of my childhood, thank you!! The wait was well worth it, the end product was beautiful and improved on what was already an incredible soundtrack.

I just read the pinned comment and all the process behind this masterpiece. I’m sorry that you had to pass through all that, but I’m grateful you could finish it despite everything. Seriously, thank you. I wasn’t updated to the state of the medley, but I was wondering for months if you would release another medley like the previous one. Now knowing all the struggle and the effort behind makes me appreciate it more. You all did an amazing job, and this should be listened by everyone. You have all my support too! I hope you’re doing good with all your responsibilities and the changes in your life. Greetings from Peru! 😊

hey, I don't usually comment on anything but I just wanted to express how much this is incredible. I've been waiting for it ever since you released the teaser and I'm sorry for all the negativity people have thrown at you, these people of course didn't know what was going on in your life and just wanted to listen to this beautiful medley. Internet can be harsh a lot of the time. This may or may not reach the (astounding) numbers of the pokemon Ruby/Sapphire medley (which was released in a vastly different time), but I hope you are proud of it regardless, as it is an artistic product of extreme quality which really moved me and thousands of others.

The Cynthia section is absolutely stunning. Obviously, from a technical skill perspective, but also from a storytelling one. The Cynthia section (16:23) and her theme (16:54) are impeccable, and capture the gravitas and intensity of the moment, but the real genius hits at 18:30. The low health beeping, the lingering in the intense, low point of the song, and then the hard smash back into her encounter theme when the low health beeping stops. You just lost to her, like we all did, and now you're in the runback, hearing that same song, but better prepared, and they continue her theme with the more heroic back half, and tie it into the victory fanfare by using the leitmotif the fanfare has from her theme in it to wrap it all up. Brilliant! (And then the sucker punch of Twinleaf for the credits ;w;)

This came up to my recomendations and I thought "Why not? I like listening to VGM medleys from time to time." but wow.. I had virtually no expectations ( as in, going in blind and being completely new to your stuff ) and *damn* this was incredible! I can't even begin to imagine the hurdles and everything you've put into this project, but I'll be damned if it doesn't show! The quality of everything is superb and this was a massive joy to listen to. Thank you for the hard work of all participants ( and coming from RichaadEB's covers, it was a pleasant surprise to spot him as part of this ) in bringing this absolute work of art for all to enjoy!

I was already in my 20s when I played DP but the soundtrack always made me feel like a child on an adventure. I can't state how grateful I am for your dedication and passion, listening to this awesome composition really was like going back on a time machine, transported back to a life where everything was simpler, games were thoroughly enjoyed, and beating the Pokémon champion made you feel like a hero. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again ❤️

I was looking through the most replayed parts of the video, and obviously Cynthia's opening was going to be #1, but I'm surprised nobody's talking about the incredible climax to the Cynthia battle theme that was 18:42. That texture and tonal change blew me away, that has to be one of my favorite parts from an already incredible medley. Thank you Dr. Pez for bringing yet another absolutely amazing Pokémon medley to us.
