Sir MD Pediatrics is so sensitive subject. I don't think it will give the peace of mind. Anything apparently abnormal happens to the child and parents become tensed and start calling pediatrician. This will increase day by day courtesy Google search by parents.

TIPS ABOUT PSYCHIATRY Im doing 3rd year residency in psychiatry. Only thing that matters in psychiatry is interest in behavioural neuroscience and patience to take a very long history and being an empathetic listener . Psychiatry is branch of future is more merging with neuroscience and is biologically oriented ( classical psychiatry is being replaced by biological psychiatry ). There are good PDF and DM courses once you complete MD. There are lot of research opportunities if u are interested in that way both within and abroad. You will always have a cool pg life and peaceful practice. Good majority of patients respond to medications and you have a satisfactory practice too. Cheers

Great discourse. Only a minor disagreement. Anyone can take up any branch. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine and is the top-rated specialty in neurosciences. Psychiatry has become objective and no longer involves detailed history taking. It has now boiled down to specific gene polymorphisms and non-invasive brain stimulation. Psychiatrists also screen patients in 3-5 minutes. A country like India cannot afford to spend hours together on a single patient. It applies to western societies. Moreover, Psychiatrists are not required to clear PLAB to get an entry to the UK. Psychiatry has minimal investment but maximum return on investment. Psychiatry is an end-branch. Can start practise immediately. India has a serious dearth of Psychiatrists. Australia and UK readily take Indian Psychiatrists with a hefty pay.

With all due respect, I found your comment on throwing psych patients out of your OPD as highly unprofessional. Even if a patient has somatoform or functional disorder or illness anxiety disorder they can't be immediately be sent to psych. This ruins the rapport. Otherwise it was a great talk although seterotypical.

I guess the amount of cutting you get in a surgical unit varies from time to time depending on the large heartedness of your seniors, the skill of your lecturer and your own will to learn.I agree that many institutes who employ lecturers who do not have sufficient confidence or experience ,there the residents will suffer because they won't be given anything. And yes, what college is good today may not be good tom. And vice versa. And almost doubling the seats in a surgical unit is by no ways going to help the residents because the cutting gets divided.

@@jassaini4u it is obviously very different from clinical subjects. Depending on the subtype of pathology you are posted the daily routine changes alot. Histopathology means sitting infront of microscope for hours and writing down your findings. Same with cytopathology. FNA requires you to interact with patients and take the sample directly from them. Autopsy and Grossing requires a good knowledge of gross anatomy and a strong gut. (Autopsy of fetus is still a challenge for me) Hematology with endless peripheral smears and bone marrow where you are required to identify and count cells for differential count. It is always better to count them yourselves and not rely on machines. Also, the operation and interpretation of molecular pathology like PCR, FC, HPLC etc which are used daily now. But at the end of the day you diagnose disease and you get to see diseases at the cellular level which is interesting for me. So it is very fulfilling

Im doing 3rd year residency in psychiatry. Cheers

Nice video Contradictions:Many general surgeons of late due to many medical colleges as well as DNB institutes Not much cases for each surgeon Secondly appendectomy, cholecystectomy also get divided between general surgeons and surgical gastroenterologists Too many eye hospitals even in small cities like Mysore
