Hi Chaps. Excellent session, chaps. You’re ticking all the boxes with Stevie, Patrice, Steve Arrington and The Pointer Sisters. That Jermaine Jackson sleeve is a proper stinker! Lovely stuff. Cheers. John

Thanks for sharing guys, great music featured here. Arrington, Rushen, Hubbard etc.../ Hamid Drake is one of my favorite drummers/percussionist in recent years, although he's not that young. Cheers and best wishes for 2024. Take care

Hamid is sounding fantastic on the Brotzman record - John shared a Bill Laswell video with me yesterday where he also appears kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6bVh5d4Yq2qi7cfeature=shared&t=937 - Happy Christmas Chris and hope you are well and have a wonderful New Year

Greetings, Mark and John. Good to see you shine a light on some neglected artists like Steve Arrington, Patrice Rushen and Joe Henry. Martha Wash sang on hits by Black Box and C+C Music Factory, but her name was not included on the credits. Ornette Coleman played on the album, ''Scar'' by Joe Henry. Stevie Wonder has plenty of fantastic deep tracks which blend in nicely with his ''hit'' songs, his albums have a terrific ''flow'', nothing seems out of place. I'm enjoying David Grusin and Bob James more and more, as well as the entire CTI catalog. That Derek Bailey/ Paul Motian archive release is right up my alley ! Derek's duets with drummers inspire some of his best playing. It must have been a joy to meet the great Ed- Topo, in the flesh!

Hi Michael. Scar is a great record! The unaccompanied Ornette at the end of the Richard Pryor song is just beautiful. I think you'll enjoy the Bailey/Motian record. Cheers John

Good morning Mark and John. My intro to Eddie Harris was the live album with Les McCann called Swiss Movement. It was Teddy who actually picked it out and handed it to me when we were digging in Boston. You were listening to my favorite Zappa album Overnight Sensation. Apostrophe is also a first choice at times. Thanks for the tip on the remaster/reissue. Nice to see you pulling out some southern boogie with Skynyrd's debut. I think I told you both before. I saw them as a backup to Jeff Beck in 1976 at the Cape Cod Coliseum. Beck was playing with Jan Hammer at the time. Skynyrd was fantastic. That Hubbard is new to me. Who is the female singer on the Frisell album? RIP to the great Peter Brotzmann. What a talent. I will surely check out that album. Also going to check out that Bailey/Motian album. One heck of an update gentleman. Enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing them all and Merry Christmas if I do not talk to you before then~ Rob/Boston

Hello Rob and a slow release Happy Christmas to you too. The singer on the Frisell is Petra Haden - one of Charlie's triplet daughters. All of them are ridiculously talented. Their Haden Triplets records are great and Petra also does these amazing a cappella reconstructions of music by the likes of King Crimson and The Who. Evidently both Fripp and Townsend love what she did. Cheers John

In search of something apt to play last weekend while my American wife and some guests celebrated Thanksgiving, I pulled out Music On My Mind to spin. It went down very well.

Hi Mark & John, great meeting you both at that Frisell gig.. weirdly I was just listening to the French artist Medline & the opening 2 tracks were Red Clay & People Make The World Go Round! Love that Persuaders theme, thinking of “Casino Playboys” there’s a great promotional video of that with Pan’s People on KZbin from 71… definitely aged better than the series..

I shared a lift at the BBC with all of Pan's People when I was about 15 or 16 ..... 😅

Ok, changes are afoot with the dynamic duo: no culinary breaks for Portuguese tarts, raw carrots or sheep’s cheese. And- Mark watching/listening to Dylan!?!? Sic transit Gloria mundi.

Well spotted Ben! I did manage to source some local sheeps cheese but alas Portuguese Tarts did not arrive (John had a good reason..) I absolutely loved the Scorsese Rolling Thunder doc - and I think I 'got' Dylan for the first time (also he had a wonderful bass player and Joni featured too)

@@drrhythmn by the way yes some great tracks on the pointer sisters lp. Someone should comp their groove tracks inc those featuring Herbie in one comp.
