You best believe that I am not going to miss this one. Good morning Mark & John. Great to see you guys in the same room sharing some gems. Be back this evening to follow up after I watch the whole video. But for now. Have a super day~ Rob/Boston

I have been seeing various Gil Scott and Isley Brothers albums being shown over the years. But never Live It Up & Were New Again. One of the many reasons why I dig these Sessions is the deep dives that you into some of my favorites artists. Excellent stories on the Escalator Over the Hill album. Very good. You were speaking of Jeff Beck when you showed the Jan Hammer album Mark. Just to add to that. I went to see them live during the summer of 76 at the general admission Cape Cod Coliseum. It was a fine night. What made it even better was seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd as the backup band. Another fantastic SS gents. Enjoyed it all~ Rob/Boston

Cheers Rob - I saw the original Skynyrd line up at a venue that used to be called Hammersmith Odeon back in 1976! Thank you for dropping by and vibing with us. Do check those Isley albums out too if you don't know them!

Hi Chaps. I don’t know the Dee Edwards tune, Mark, but I’ll check it out. I’ve been after the Jan Hammer album for a few years. I can’t remember where I heard it but the track, “Don’t You Know”, really grabbed me. It sounds weirdly contemporary and must’ve been an influence on artists such as Daft Punk. I’ll come across the album one day, I’m sure. I picked up the reissue of the Yussef Latif album recently, which is excellent. Not an artist that gets mentioned that often in the VC. As you say, John, there’s plenty of his music that deserves more attention. Cheers. John

Great Lateef LP. One that has oddly escaped me for years.

Nice to see you guys as always. I know that dee edwards track, really excellent. I only have 'why can't there be love' on 45 by her.... another gem! That Meters lp is just phenomenal, it's getting hard to get these days. I have never heard about that Barry white 45 b side, sounds cool! I also have that ashford and Simpson 12, unfortunately with the same print issue. A few years ago, they have released a repress of the track with an incredible version/edit by Joe Claussell (11min), highly recommended if you like the track like I do! Great episode some classics and unknown music for me (Melissa aldana, sam amidon, kassa overrall) Thanks for sharing guys, cheers!

Cheers Chris - I have managed to track down a decently priced version of the Joe Claussel mix of Bourgie Bourgie - thank you for the heads up!

I agree with your comment on how many people still don't know Talk Talk. It's downright bizarre.

As usual a wide variety of excellent releases, from Jan Hammer, Todd Rundgren to Michel Sardaby and Carla Bley. Incredible selections!

Some lovely records on display as always... for dee edwards, I'm always a no strings man... I've been a bit nervous about lewis tailor's comeback and havent really dived in properly... perhaps my fears are well founded. All the best; keep playing the music.

I would stream before purchasing on the new Lewis...but all his old albums and B sides are available on great pressing s from Be With. Thanks for stopping ny Laurence - and was it you who turned me onto the Dons of Rare Groove Mixcloud channel? if so - thank you mate!

Ed Topo, is the Frisell gig solo or with a group? I still need to own, Michael Gibbs and NDR big band, ''Play A Bill Frisell Set-list'' with Bill Frisell as the soloist.

@@michaelvalentini4869I think he’s playing with a trio. Hopefully not to percussive as it’s in a huge chapel. Always worry about acoustics in venues like that! I must check out that Gibbs/NDR album, they recently did an album with the guitarist Nguyen Le playing crazy arrangements of Dark Side of the Moon.. so good! Was interesting you mentioned Carlos Ward with B T Express. Wasn’t aware of that either until reading his bio. . Don Cherry, Carla Bley, Dollar Brand.. quite a resume!
@omniversal78 ай бұрын
@@Ed-Topo-108 @michaelvalentini4869 Yes - definitely a trio with Thomas Morgan and Rudy Royston. Claudia Engelhart who does Bill F's live sound is usually a bit of a magician so fingers crossed she can sort out the Union Chapel's weird acoustics.

No live chicken!! Good stuff guys!! Carla Bley was a genius, pure and simple, that red dress belongs in a museum, no one else can wear it. Carla and Michael Mantler started New Music Distribution Service, I bought many hard-to-get import albums from them, here in the USA. I can imagine Bruce Hornsby doing an all- Carla recording, solo, or with a band. Cool seeing the HitRun label, I did not know that Sherwood had a label before On- U- Sound. Dammit, I always mix-up Ashford and Simpson with Peaches and Herb. I just recently learned that Carlos Ward played sax in BT- Express. I just bought Frisell's ECM album with Thomas Morgan, enjoy the show!

Really looking forward to it Michael. I had not realised the pedigree of Carlos Wards' discography - Don Cherry, Roswell Rudd and as I now discover - Carla Bley on Social Studies - the circle is completed!

Hi Michael I also used to buy loads of stuff from NMDS. (I think Kip Hanrahan used to pack the records) So much in fact that I eventually set up my own mail order distribution service in the UK. They were incredibly helpful and shared lots of info with me. all best John

@@omniversal7 John, great story, I always wondered how Carla and Kip connected with each other. I still have an NMDS printed catalogue, in a box somewhere.
