You’re Amazing!!! I just rescued two feral cats and tried to keep them separated from my cat that I already own. My house cat still got Ear Mites, and quite bad. She refused to let me put eardrops in her ears and I got carved up like a Thanksgiving Turkey! Not to mention it stressed her out so much and I felt so horrible. She hates me right now:((( I had to take her to the vet and they gave her Bravecto Plus, for fleas and a variety of worms 🪱 but it’s also very effective in killing ear mites. It’s squirts right on the back of the neck and it’s so simple! I just knew there had to be an alternative to putting eardrops in my cats ears because most of them absolutely hate it and your little friendly fluff ball becomes your enemy really quickly. It was soooo devastating upsetting my little fluff ball😢 She’s doing sooo much better now and Loves me again:)) Thank Heavens!!!!

You are amazing, thank you!!my cat has food allergies but he’s been on a prescription Royal Canin PR diet for over a year and his ears haven’t been a problem since. He had FIP this fall and was allergic to the oral treatment. He’s just wrapped up treatment and responded well despite the allergy. He’s got an ear infection now and I just got a multi day ear drop med from my vet. He’s wonderful, but I have no idea why he gave me this and not Clarol, which worked wonders last time, he knows my cat cannot be handled and I live alone 😣 In any case, I used to give him Revolution monthly but didn’t realize it helped prevent this problem! I’m not sure if it’s mites in his case since he’s the only pet in the house and it’s allergy related. I’ve given him Gabapentin for the pain and to sedate him enough so that hopefully I can try to gently clean the ear and get the drops in if he’s not too painful, but I’m going to put Revolution on him instead and monitor to see if it’s helped before putting him through the drop course.

Be sure to have your pet’s record that ear drops are very stressful for him. Long acting ear meds are best and transdermal meds

@@DrSallyJFoote thank you ❤️ I was able to get the single dose generic of Claro from our vet, the infection spread to his other ear. It’s really hard to administer even the single dose, he shook it out of both sides right after administering (into my eye 🥲) so I’m nervous that it wasn’t enough to clear the infection. It’s only been 2 days so it might be normal that he’s still scratching. His 4 week FIP post-treatment observation bloodwork appointment is in 1 week, so if the infections haven’t resolved at least the doctor will be here to assess next steps. His vet is an in-home doctor, so that keeps the stress to a minimum thankfully 🙏🏽

Hi Dr Sally, i'm not sure if you'll see this, but I'm treating a semi-feral cat for an infection. He hates it (and have gotten away once) but so far I've been able to administer the ear drops quick enough before he could outrun me. The trouble is giving the ears a massage, which I was instructed by the vet to do. Sometimes he'd let me for a 3-5 seconds, other times he won't. Some veterinary websites told me I shouldn't force the ear massage on the cat if they recoil from their ears being touched, but I would appreciate your advice 🙏

The added touch from massage is too painful - just apply the drops for 3 days, then use a cotton ball with mineral oil to put in the canal and wipe out any debris. Ask your veterinarian for topical anesthetic cream or you can get lidocaine 4% lotion and put in a few drops before the medication if the veterinarian approves it - it should not interact with the medication but this is under your veterinarians prescribing - topical anesthetic is often a help for ear meds but I am only informing here not prescribing what to do.

thanks for this @DrSallyJFoote - I have to administer some ear drops to my cat for 10 days! He doesn't react in pain when we touch his ears, it's a mild infection but no ear mites present. Heloathed eye drops so much we never managed to get them in (luckily the eye issue cleared up on its own) and I am sure he will loathe the ear drops. It is a pump action canula that has to be put into the ear! Do you have restraint advise for this, and could you shed light on how far down the ear we should put the canula? Thank you for all your excellent videos!

just put the pump at the opening of the canal - it will work it's way down. ask your vet for pain reliever to give your cat ahead of time. Gabapentin is often used for pain relief.

​@DrSallyJFoote after putting drops in be sure to massage under their jaw. The ear is like an L shape and the meds need to get down in the canal. You can do it! Your cat will feel better and so will you!

Approximately 7 minutes into the video you say"9k we have swabbed for ear mites"…. When? When did we swap for ear mites. After talking about the pillowcase towel you slip into complete office mode and we're right at the veterinarian. That's the thing that floor being a message that you completely contradicted yourself. You said that we shouldn't use drops for ear mites??? After just explaining how to get those drops in???. It's totally confusing. Also, did I miss where you talked about ways to treat the ears if it's not mites? Maam if you're only advice is to go to the veterinarian or buy an expensive product that sponsors you,then please shorten your videos. I was certain that I would find something here that discuss that because it was 17 minutes,?... But I didn't. If I did miss that part could you please tell me where it was? My cat doesn't have ear mites. He's not really scratching his ears at all.... he doesn't want to touch Ben and he certainly does not want me to. I did learn a few things from your video.. the pillowcase and chip clip thing is a great hack and I love it...0 I haven't tried it out yet but I plan on doing that sometime tomorrow. I know you mean well and you seem like a very nice lady. However, one of my pet peeves is when I go online to find advice about how to treat my pet at home, any advice is either "go. See the veterinarian " or "buy this very expensive product Please keep in mind, if you have more content to publish that when people come to KZbin looking for a way to treat their pet, it's because we don't have the money to take them to the vet.o buy your sponsors expensive products..
