Very cheep. fun fact:- only 3000 Tahoe Diesels were ever made and most were sold in other countries, other than the US It was available from 95-99 and the diesel Tahoe was a special order through GM. It’s one of the rarest modern vehicles you can get diesel fuel is NZD$1.20 per lt. + road tax of 6c per km. !!! & road tax for a 50 ton truck & trailer is 60c per km. Old gas Blazer are going for twice the price of diesels,.!!!. Gas in NZ is $1.80c per litre.

First--thanks for posting all these vids! I have a '94 HD C2500 suburban...and can't tell you how much work I've done using your videos as a guide...anyway...I just had the same problem--seal was bad and almost looked "too big"-- I installed it and started driving and had drivers honking at me and yelling about the "leaking gasoline"--pulled into a parking lot--and like you--discovered it was leaking out of the top cap...walked over to an autozone for replacement--and meanwhile---one of the helpful "observers" called the Chicago fire department and a truck arrived...luckily the captain had a Duramax Sierra and was understanding...but boy...lots of drama.

Remember also sometimes to clean the little fuel strainer that is stepped down on the senter shaft in the filterhouse. Have to kind of, jack it up with a hook. There also rearly som "mud" in the bottom of the filterhouse wich have to be cleaned. And how old are your fuel lines`? The original GM lines ar wery good qality. But after 25 years, it is high time for a check.

Curious if youve had your heater element at the bottom of the filter housing start to leak. Found mine leaking today, and a quick google search turned up as a fairly typical issue with higher miles. Gonna pull mine and see if I can get away with just an oring change. Something to be aware of. Thanks for all your videos.

I noticed you didn't drain the remaining fuel in the filter housing... if the filter needed changing, wouldn't the fuel in the filter housing just clog the new filter if it isn't drained?
@DrShock
@DrShock 23 күн бұрын
There's no fuel drain required on this model GM during a filter change (per the service manual). What you may be referring to is the _water drain_ line and you only need to open that brass T valve up if the WIF (water in fuel) lamp comes on to drain out water (or you want to diagnose a fuel flow concern). The residual fuel in the housing would have already gone thru the previous media.

I had a crack on the bleed valve on the top of the filter, and it was hemorrhaging fuel everywhere. Difficult to source a replacement valve without replacing the filter entirely, so I ended up fusing the plastic with a soldering iron. Stopped leaking. I have a very important question though. WHY is there an "upper manifold?" Neither of my 6.5's came with it, and it appears to serve no purpose whatsoever besides decoration. If anything, it just gets in the way when you need to work on the engine.
@DrShock
@DrShock 2 жыл бұрын
I would speculate that the engineers went this aluminum upper manifold design approach as needs on the Detroit Diesel V8 evolved from naturally aspirated to electronically fuel injected. Perhaps you meant the _engine shroud_ , or cover, here though rather than _upper manifold_ which is plastic and purely decorative and was a glimpse at all the coverings GM engines have today. ;-)

I bought a newer type of filter, not exactly like the one in the video. Installed. Did the lift pump test with the key in ACC on my RV (1996 Itasca) Nothing. No fuel coming up, just a clicking sound at about 1 second intervals. Actually.. even removed the filter altogether and put the key in ACC. Nothing happens in that little hole, just some diesel sitting there and a clicking sound. Means fuel pump problem?
@DrShock
@DrShock 10 ай бұрын
For the years this video covers, either a defective lift pump kzbin.info/www/bejne/eau2h2mHjZugpZY or the fuel line is clogged up (less likely). For older years, either the oil pressure switch (OPS) as this is part of the lift pump activation circuit in older models, or the lift pump.

👍 Thanks for the help. I didn’t find a pump like the one in this video anywhere along the frame of the RV. Did some research. Looks like on my P30 1996 Itasca RV the fuel pump assembly is nearly inside the fuel tank and requires either dropping the tank or cutting a hole in the floor to access it. I’d like to make sure that’s the problem and then replace it if that’s the problem.

If you're sure you opened it like I showed here, I'd suspect if you have a weak lift pump then - check this other vid of mine kzbin.info/www/bejne/eau2h2mHjZugpZY When the lift pump goes bad, the injection pump will maintain a prime until you change the fuel filter. That's usually when someone finds out it's bad, if that's the case. The 96 and later you can listen to the lift pump during the glow plug cycle but I'm not sure if the 95 and earlier will as they use the oil pressure switch to power the pump up.

Thanks for the post. Ever thought of relocating it? Any mods done on the truck
@DrShock
@DrShock 5 жыл бұрын
Nope, it works just fine where the GM engineers placed it. Never really been a mod fan being an engineer myself, but my one concession to was relocation of the Stanadyne PMD to the front bumper as the original design location was simply f'd up. Someone at GM clearly forgot about the transistor lifespan impacts of engine heat soak after the fuel flow stops.
@BlackEpyon

Myblack ring was very stuck. Strap wrench and punch didn't work. What would you do?
@DrShock
@DrShock 2 жыл бұрын
It's plastic on plastic, so its not going to be corroded in place. More likely over torqued to begin with. First, be sure you are trying to loosen, not tighten it, direction wise. Then, I would PB blaster the top circumference of the ring (alot of thread clearance for the penetrating oil to seep in with this plastic ring area). Then try to tappy tap (small quick taps not large whacks) a large punch along the ring ridge in the loosen direction to get it to break away the over torque. The ring is replaceable if it breaks.

@DrShock
@DrShock 5 жыл бұрын
So you can get fuel exiting the air bleed of the fuel filter with the key turned and the lift pump going but nothing past that? I presume you have fuel pressure to the injection pump, and if so it can be many things causing a no start condition. Here's a good checklist to go thru before you have to resort to the GM service manual diagnosis - www.accuratediesel.com/nostart.html

These kind of problems are exceedingly difficult to diagnose remotely, over a comment board. But given your description that nothing else has changed (before/after) relating to air or fuel but the injection pump - I'd have to suspect that IP rework if the timing was spot on. This could also be a sensor harness damaged, during the pump swap out. My experience is with the DS4, but if it were me I'd start going over all the sensor wiring in that area for collateral damage. I'd next talk with my pump rebuilder about what may have gone awry in that.

@DrShock

If you're not getting any fuel in the run position on the ignition key, and you have a 1996 or newer, it's a lift pump problem - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eau2h2mHjZugpZY as for the oil filter there may be a dealer type tool but I've not used one. If it were stuck I'd give a strap type wrench a try.

@@eljerryr259 Ok, so unlikely to have dual tanks. There's just the one lift pump and you just changed it out. On 1997 when you first turn the key to the glow plug cycle, the lift pump will be powered up for a moment. You should be able to hear it buzzing from inside the truck in fact. If you're not able to hear the pump, I'd check with a voltmeter at the lift pump harness connector that you're getting power to it since it's a new one. If you are getting power / hearing it, but still no fuel flow at the filter, I'd be instead checking for an obstruction at the tank. Perhaps a clogged fuel sender sock.
