Hey thanks a lot for the very nice video! I followed this carefully and fixed my passenger side exterior door handle! The hardest part is indeed when I have to put the rod into the hole for the lock. It took me almost an hour to get the hang of it. The trick is to try to put it in in a position that is natural to the rod. The position where the hole is closest to my eyes is not a position easier for the rod. The rod has to be bent in the right 3D shape. So I gave up that position after about 45 minutes. Then I asked my wife to turn the lock slowly backwards and I noticed that there is a spot to the right and higher than the lock where the rod is pretty much free of tension and very close to the hole. Then I put it in in under 5 minutes. Talking about a trick! I used after market handle, which only cost me like $12. I know Toyota part is better, but I don't feel like paying $120 for it. So the one from eBay came in. The eBay one does not work with Toyota self-tapping screws. And it is quite hard to find the right screw for it. But I noticed that if I use a bigger screw with a tapper and then add some washers, it will work. I guess that is also why you see that big washer which won't work with OEM Toyota parts. It all makes sense now. My 2001 Camry is 23 years old now with 170k miles. The engine and transmission are rock solid. But the windows and doors are trash. I have replaced all the windows 1.5 times. I asked a shop to fix my driver's door handle. But I decided to fix the passenger one myself and your video truly helped!

Ive got a 2003 s10 every thing works but the lines 1 is leaking right on bend of hose its got the injectors where your poppits are . but is it possible to get just the lines between the body and injectors ?
@DrShock

You have the later MFI style for 2003, without the poppet valves that the CSFI style I'm showing in the video. But GM does not service the fuel line separately for either, you have to purchase the complete injector assembly in both designs.

There will eventually be a DTC (aka a code). I believe I put the most common DTC in the video description writeup.

Really appreciate the video! My connector snapped in half so gambled and went to NAPA and tried the connector (9861) referenced in the video. It was still leaking so I went up a size (9862) and it worked perfectly. Was still able to get good windshield coverage without any leaks. Gonna replace the passenger side and see how long that lasts. Again, appreciate the great video.

Whats Happening is its pumping fuel right into exaust making white smoke i put in injector cleaner and it got better but its not holding any pressure 4.3 s10 is there a place to check vac on regulator without opening it up ? it through a shorted wheel sensor code and disconnected them thought it was powering the injectors but i think its just injector staying wide open but was wondering if the regulator could be dumping through bad regulator I had to clean the injectors on 2 other vehicles because the winter alcahol in gas I got 0 pressure at where you hook up the gauge with key on unless its running you start it and its its got pressure squirting gas out is that the regulator trucks got 130,000 miles and new fuel pump

what do the poppet valves do?
@DrShock
@DrShock 3 күн бұрын
The valve is a mechanical spring loaded assembly at the end of each cylinder fuel line to meter the fuel when a given line is triggered by the vehicle control module (VCM) to inject pressurized fuel. The lines are often referred to as _spider legs_ given the appearance of the CSFI design. In the CSFI design, these poppet valves can become stuck / gummy if the fuel is of poor quality. The spring can also wear out requiring replacement either way.

Great video, thanks! Do I need to bleed the system after changing out the reservoir?
@DrShock
@DrShock 4 күн бұрын
Thanks. For the Chevy Sonic, when replacing the reservoir you don't need to worry about bleeding out the small amount of air that may get in. The system can purge that amount out automatically. You _do_ need to top off the coolant to the correct level marked on the reservoir fill line though.

Hi, what test did you perform to know the injection pump was failed?
@DrShock
@DrShock 6 күн бұрын
There are many failure points that can lead to IP replacement being required on these old 6.5L diesel engines. Several are DTC driven and will have diagnostic trees outlined in the GM service manual, landing at _replace injection pump_ clearly. But most of the problems will not have any DTCs generated, making diagnosis more subjective. There is no one test applicable to this unit unfortunately. What I can recommend are tests to eliminate other, less expensive, components first. For stalling and hard starting, check that the fuel lift pump is delivering appropriate PSI to the IP. If not, it could be the lift pump, or a clogged up fuel strainer in the tank issue instead. Check that air is not being injected into the fuel line leading into the IP. This can be checked by substituting clear fuel hose from the fuel filter manager into the IP. And of course, as always with the 6.5L, make sure that the PMD is not the problem (these modules rarely survive more than a couple of years before failing internally).

Runs the risk of snapping any corroded exhaust fasteners or brackets, so I do *not* recommend that approach. I've shown here that the maintenance service is perfectly doable _without_ causing collateral damage.

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, it was impossible to take apart my Chamberlain keypad, no matter how I tried. They make these intentionally so that opening them up for repair is very difficult, to sell a new one when the buttons stop working. Luckily, a replacement can be found for about $15 so no way will I pay 50+ bucks to Chamberlain for it :)

I have a 2003 grand am same engine. Battery was dead when purchased 190k miles amazing condition. Bought new battery now 5 months later my brand new battery is dead, so you think it could be the alternator on mine
@DrShock
@DrShock 7 күн бұрын
That would be one of several possibilities. Parasitic drain, wiring harness damage/corrosion, etc. It would have to be diagnosed. The alternator is the easiest to test, put a voltmeter across the battery terminals with the engine running, you should be getting north of 13.5V (more likely slightly over 14V) for this particular GM engine.

THANK YOU! I’ve got a leak either off this oil filter adapter or the entire drain pan gasket. The leak is definitely isolated to this area but I cannot tell which is leaking. So, which is more likely the leak: the oil filter adapter seals or the oil pan gasket? 98 Vortec 5.7. Thanks!

Adding a dye to the oil would be the best route to determine where it's coming from. With the age of the vehicle, do not be surprised to find out it is _all of the above_ ;-)

The line that goes from the regulator to the intake manifold plumbing, is not a vacuum line per se as you call it. What it is is a conduit for fuel raw fuel in the event of a diaphragm failure in the regulator.

Hello I have a question the screws that hold the handle the one that is angled from the in it’s a 10 mm but now with new handle the screw is not long enough 😢😅did I do something wrong ? How ever the screw from the outside was able to to fit in fine but for now my handle is hanging from one side 😂😂
@DrShock
@DrShock 8 күн бұрын
I have seen where an aftermarket part can have fitment issues with the fasteners. An OEM part (i.e., genuine GM) will not have such fitment problems. You may be able to resolve it with a longer bolt and a washer/spacer if this is the problem.

Thank you for the video - I didn't realize there was stretch release tape inside. For you and others to know, there is a MUCH easier way to get the tape out. You can pry open the upper corners, insert a technician's tweezers, and grip the end of the stretch tape. The carefully turn your tweezers until all the tape is released. Zero heat required.

Great video nice work! Working on a 95 c2500 just replaced lifters push rods valve's springs rocker arms rocker rails all OEM new fuel tank and lines up to ffm all back together now left gp out both batteries charged plus jump box on one side jumper cables to other battery whips good. No codes threw ECM. Got it to prime than whipped it over and it was like loosing the prime. Take a break. Came back to it after cranking and crossing over relay for a 40 to 50 second prime put relay back in got it to prime put gp back in it fired up than shut off like I turned key off. Repeat process got all air out as far as I know got it to prime after go removed again than go back in started for 30 seconds or so sounded good than shut itself off again like I turned it off. 11/13/2024 ) took the solonoid off checked it seemed fine bought a new one no difference was trying to get WTS light on dash still ain't on ... But starts when it did and off like it does. What else do I look for no leaks visible am I missing something any suggestions 🙏 no gasser ever this stubborn 😂

Usually problems with stalling out on this GM diesel engine, for the model year range the title of this video covers, center around the pump mounted driver (PMD) aka fuel solenoid driver (FSD). This is the electronics module that attaches to the side of the injection pump. These Stanadyne designed modules have an extremely high failure rate. Another possibility for stalling on this engine can be an aftermarket fuel sender sock that lacks the required ball release valve.
