In this video we will be going thru how to replace, and in some cases cosmetically restore, rusty corroded rear axle to leaf spring attachment components (rear leaf spring U-bolts and anchor plates). Due to the original GM design, the rear spring anchor plates can become embedded with accumulated dirt and sand, which will then retain moisture, brine, and road salts resulting in extensive corrosion damage to the all parts involved including the rear axle tubes.
The truck illustrated is a 1999 Chevrolet K1500 Suburban LT, old body style (OBS) GMT400 with a 6.5L diesel engine so having a 14-bolt 9.5" rear, but the repair procedure I share with you will be the same for any 1988 thru 2000 OBS truck or SUV. So Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC for Escalade, Cheyenne, Silverado, Suburban, W/T, Tahoe, Sierra, and Yukon across C1500, K1500, C2500, and K2500 weight ratings ONLY. I do NOT cover the C3500 or K3500 part numbers or torque values for axles larger than a 14-bolt 10.5" full floating (FF) in this video though.
The approach, removal, cosmetic restoration, and reassembly shown will be the same between the 14-bolt 9.5" semi-floating (SF) axle shown, the 14-bolt 10.5" FF axle, and the more common 10-bolt axle. Only the GM part numbers involved will differ, as listed below.
The eBay and Amazon search links below are paid links, for which I may be compensated and earn a commission, if you choose to buy the parts and tools shown in this video thru them:
