Drug Offender LPR Paroled into US after 30 Years Abroad

Our client needed to reenter the US for his daughter's wedding; but, he had been out of the US for 30 years, with a drug related conviction on his record. There's no way for him to reenter as a green card holder, USCIS presumes you abandoned your green card after just 1 year abroad, so without an extremely good reason 30 years is far too long. He won't be let in on a tourist visa, as drug convictions typically make you inadmissible. Instead, we worked with CBP, and finally convinced the officer to parole our client into the US for 90 days.
