hey mell, could you do a video on dandruff/product buildup and dry scalps? I have been so lost and want to give up. I have so much buildup, and it’s messing with my curls. :/
@DaenerysGOT184 жыл бұрын
I would love her to do a video like that! I have the same problem:(
@biancarosato59044 жыл бұрын
I struggle with this too, and I’ve learned a lot! Firstly, you have to know if you’re struggling with dandruff or dry scalp. Not the same thing! Remember that scalp is skin. Dry scalp is like dry skin - it needs hydration. But dandruff is a skin condition of the scalp. It’s caused by fungal growth and is usually associated with oily scalp. Product buildup is neither dry scalp nor dandruff but it can cause both by clogging up your hair follicles. If an ingredient in your hair care would clog the pores on your face, it will clog the pores (follicles) on your head! So if you have dandruff that’s caused or worsened by product buildup, get into a really good clarifying routine, and try to avoid product application to the scalp. Make sure that your shampoos don’t contain anything like coconut oil or Shea butter which could clog your hair follicles. The brand SEEN is a hair care line specifically made without pores cloggers (Mell has a video on it) and I love them! One last tip: my clarifying shampoo (which I use monthly) has sulfates and salicylic acid. SA is a chemical exfoliant - it is amazing at getting deep into pores and cleaning them out. Neutrogena has a salyclic acid shampoo but so do lots of other brands and that has helped me keep the oily dandruff flakes awake!
@madraye194 жыл бұрын
@@biancarosato5904 that makes a lot of sense. while researching, a lot of articles kept clumping the three together. i’m going to say that I have dandruff that worsened by product buildup. I def need to change my shampoo. i’m thinking about getting a scalp scrub and then switching over to a new routine. edit: forgot to say thank you! lol
@DaenerysGOT184 жыл бұрын
@@biancarosato5904 Thank you so much for explaining the differences. I feel like I have dry scalp but also dandruff. I don’t know how it’s possible but as soon as I shake my head little white flakes come off:( But then my scalp itself has a film of build that if I scratch with my fingernail dead skin comes off. I know that’s really gross🤢 Any idea what I should do?
@biancarosato59044 жыл бұрын
@@DaenerysGOT18 lol I know exactly what you mean! I would avoid shampoos with oils and butters and stick to shampoos that gently cleanse. (This can be hard to find because shampoos that clean my scalp well tend to dry my hair out. But healthy hair starts at the scalp!) I’d clarify your hair as often as needed (for me that’s once a month) with a sulfate and try to avoid putting products other than shampoo on your scalp. For the dry scalp - I think that might self resolve once you get a good cleansing routine going because the skin will actually be able to breathe. If it doesn’t resolve, try drinking lots of water and eating foods high in fat (nuts, fish, etc) or you could always go to a dermatologist!

Thanks for yet again another informative video!! The way you break down ingredients and the pros/cons of them is so beneficial. For specific ingredients, you mentioned aloe vera as an ingredient in one of these products and how it's film forming. I'm interested in a scientific video of this ingredient like the video you created about coconut oil. For some reason, aloe vera does not agree with my hair. I recently purchased the moisture memory reactivator and the in-shower style fixer from CurlSmith, both have aloe vera, and once my hair is dry, my hair feels horrible. I've noticed this with other products containing aloe vera higher up in the ingredient list. Would Scientify Mell please help explain this phenomenon?
