I was a teenager in the 80s. We had mousse or gel. Maybe a choice of two or three. But my hair looked better! So after spending a ton of money on hair products to try, i went back to a blob of mousse (and same affordable brand I used in the 80s). Less is more, sometimes 😂

These products aren’t just about hold. They’re about hydration, protection, damage prevention. Don’t forget that mousse is drying and scrunching can cause breakage, especially on dryer hair so you should still be using products for hydration and protein.

Which ones doesn’t make your hair look wet or feel crunchy I can’t seem to find anything that just gives a soft natural look.
@santanabanana8436 ай бұрын
something i learned was that some of those that make your hair crunchy are shape holding, and something that helps me get rid of that crunch while still keeping curl definition is just letting it dry and then scrunching after, which breaks it down and softens it after. also, you may be using too much product if it gets crunchy!

it's a great video but it classifies by consistency and name...which is problematic if you go to a shop, you can't test the consistency. In order to know the difference, it would be nice to tell us about the ingreduents : what makes thise products different. You've mention the presences of "butters" in creams, which is a good indicator. This video would be amazingly helpful if it was to do a break down according to the main different ingredients. For instance : dillution water based or alcohol based ? what is the stylish ingredient base we can find in cremes to distinguish them from leave-in (gels, alcohols etc.). Obviously I've enjoyed your video, but I feel i can't use it unless i buy everything and try them in my hand, so i the end, I'm left with an empty wallet (but great curls lol)
@SinginginD6 ай бұрын
I bet she’ll make a video on these! Until then, some tips that work for me. So I tend to look up a certain product, watch some videos on it while styling on hair day haha, and I decide which I want based on the properties Hannah mentioned here, as reported by those creators. Then I narrow it down with experience from there. I also will pop a gel open and squeeze a tiny bit out and rub it between my fingers. I may even put that tiny bit on the end of a curl and see how it feels. I like to shake the bottles to get an idea of consistency. Other things I look for on labels are moisturizing ingredients, how far up water is listed on the label, and what it’s called. Just seeing the word cream vs. soufflé gives you an idea of texture. I don’t tend to like overly moisturizing products, so I tend to stay away from things called, for example, curl milk, liquid gel, moisturizing _____, moisture boost, even elongating products which may also say something like don’t shrink. I also need a good cast, so I stay away from things that say touchable, lightweight, flexible, smoothing, soft hold, “without the crunch.” My hair does love protein. So I do look for words like strengthening, castor oil, protein, silk protein, anti-breakage. Since I like a good cast, I look for mega hold, strong hold, lasts all day, frizz control, control, intense hold, and products that say defines AND holds (not just defines). A jelly, geleè, or a cream gel is usually thinner with a softer hold, and a gel or soufflé is generally thicker with more hold. A soufflé will add lots of moisture though, so that’s not really my jam. Often you’ll see the words right on the label - butter, oil, cream, custard, mousse, foam, etc. I hope this helps get your mind jogging!

Why do I have a wet look when I apply mouse to my hair and how can I get rid of it instead of scrunching I will run my fingers though it and it will get rid of the crunch but can still look wet?
@hanzcurls6 ай бұрын
You may be applying too much if it has a wet look. Try applying less and applying to wetter hair. If you run your fingers through it once dry it will break up your curls, so I’d recommend gently scrunching if you don’t want that to happen. Or if you diffuse, scrunch your hair gently towards the end of diffusing as shown in my recent diffusing vid
